Remnants: A gripping and heart-pounding serial killer thriller (Brandon Fisher FBI Series Book 6) Kindle Edition
When multiple body parts are recovered from the Little Ogeechee River in Savannah, Georgia, local law enforcement calls in the FBI. Special Agent Brandon Fisher and his team with the Behavioral Analysis Unit set out to investigate, but with the remains pointing to three separate victims, this isn’t going to be an open-and-shut case.
With no quick means of identifying the deceased, building a profile of this serial killer is more challenging than usual. Why are these victims being selected? Where are they are targeted? Why are their limbs being severed and their bodies mutilated?
The questions compound as the body count continues to rise, and when a torso painted blue and missing its heart is found, the case takes an even darker turn. The FBI will need to convince the Deep South to give up her secrets if they’re going to catch the killer. After all, one thing is clear: the killing isn’t going to stop until they figure it all out. And they are running out of time…
Remnants is “a gritty nightmare of a tale that will churn the stomachs of even the most hard-boiled of FBI agents…” (Tome Tender Book Blog). Buy this heart-pounding thriller today and hunt a serial killer alongside the FBI! Perfect for fans of Catherine Coulter, JT Ellison, and Patricia Cornwell.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"Filled with nonstop action, FBI and police procedures, Remnants will grab the reader immediately. Setting the hook in the first few pages, Arnold holds the reader in the palm of her hand as she crafts an intense thriller. With twists and turns and excellent plotting, Arnold holds the reader's attention... I felt that I was watching an episode of Criminal Minds or CSI; the story felt realistic. I felt the characters were full-bodied and the police procedures accurate... I found a story which will keep you up at night. It is intense, realistic, and relates to our world today as serial killers become more prolific. I love a good crime novel and this book fits the bill."
-Vera's Book Reviews and Stuff
"Arnold has created a gritty nightmare of a tale that will churn the stomachs of even the most hard-boiled of FBI agents... Full of grit, gore and enough twists to make even the most diligent of readers hard-pressed to discover the villain, even the ending will keep you on pins and needles."
-Tome Tender Book Blog
"The perfect thriller to keep you up at night... I found Arnold's writing to be not only engaging, but [it also painted] a picture for the reader. There was never I time I felt as though she were talking over my head. All of the details were well researched. For me, I do believe that Carolyn Arnold is an up and coming author for the thriller genre."

- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2024Great suspense. Good excitement and action as you flip through the pages as quickly as you can read. Great author
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2020This book, and this series, has a lot to offer fans of police/FBI procedurals. I picked up this book during a free download offer and I was happy to discover a new author whose books I can now look forward to reading. There is some backstory from earlier books in the series that is sometimes difficult to glean, but this book stands well on its own for a new reader. I’d recommend going back to the beginning of the series, however, since there is (apparently) a lot of information about the characters there that will enhance your enjoyment of this book.
On its own, Remnants finds FBI field agent Brandon Fisher on a sudden road trip to Savannah to chase down a serial killer. Brandon is joined by his boss, Jack, another field agent, Zach, and Paige, whom Brandon loves, but can’t pursue romantically due to departmental regulations that forbid agents from dating. They are in Savannah because body parts from at least three murder victims have washed up in a local river. The author gives us a peek at the killer in the prologue. Then, in chapters sprinkled throughout the book, we get more scenes from the killer’s perspective. There’s a bit of misdirection involved, which keeps the reader guessing (or thinking down the wrong path) as the FBI team tries to piece together clues. They figure out pretty quickly that the killings are part of a ritual “sacrifice” inspired by the Mayan civilization from ancient Mexico, which includes some gruesome details. The question is who’s doing the killing, and where? And why are the body parts chopped up? And how did they end up in the river?
The author leads us through the investigation is a pretty standard step-by-step police procedural format. There are a few leaps of logic along the way, and a few helpful coincidences as the heroes zero in on the killer. Once one character becomes the obvious focus, there are other twists and the introduction of additional characters towards the end who turn out to be involved. I was surprised by several of the ending reveals, although there was no real chance for a reader to have figured them out. Still, following the action to the final uncovering is a fun ride.
The writing here is excellent, aside from an overuse of the term “unsub” and far too many ellipses for my personal taste. But, the book is full of delicious prose and entertaining descriptions and dialogue that are all well-edited. The love lives of the characters are chronicled at the very beginning and very end of the book, but there is nothing going on between Brandon and Paige during the story, and the romantic elements seem to be tacked on here rather than really being an important element of this story.
On balance, this is a quick and entertaining read and one that will make you want to seek out other books from Ms. Arnold. So, exactly what she had in mind by running a free book offer!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2022I received a complimentary electronic copy of this excellent FBI mystery, #6 in the Brandon Fisher FBI series, from the author. I have read Remnants of my own volition, and this review reflects my honest opinion of this work. A new novel from Carolyn Arnold is always a red-letter day for me. I am pleased to recommend her to friends and family. She always writes a tightly wound mystery with well-rounded characters and well-defined locales. I consider a new Arnold mystery a short visit to somewhere else.
In Remnants, we are in Georgia - Atlanta, and Savannah for the most part, with Special Agent Jack Harper and his team with the Behavioral Analysis Unit, Brandon Fisher, Zach Miles, and Paige Dawson. This story is told for the most part in the voice of Brandon, though we do occasionally hear from others. And Brandon has a fine tale to tell. It is one I enjoyed thoroughly, though there were times I wasn't sure little fewer graphic descriptions would be nice. But all told, this is an excellent book, part of an excellent series, by an author to watch for.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2020The story was interesting, but full of trite stereotypes seen in crime fiction: an FBI agent who has let the job consume him and can’t maintain a love life, a hardened supervisor who shows a crack in his hard exterior, etc... It also borrows so closely from Criminal Minds, it’s hard to not imagine the characters being in this book. There’s a brainy, former child prodigy with an eidetic memory, a tech wizard who can find the most obscure information in a matter of minutes, and a beautiful female agent who brings the softness and empathy. However, the element of mystery was effective and it was definitely a “page-turner” to figure out what happened. There was some lazy elements like one of the suspects ripping out an IV while both of their hands were handcuffed to a hospital bed. Not sure how that’s possible.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2018This is an exceptionally well-written mystery full of grit, gore, and plot twists. You won't be able to guess who 'dun-it' and, coming to the end, you'll be on pins and needles. When body parts are found in the Little Ogeechee River in Savannah, Georgia, the local authorities request the help of FBI Agent and Profiler Brandon Fisher and his team. This crime is done by a serial killer as the three body parts found are from three different males. The killer will be more difficult to identify and locate. This novel is so awesome and I always think this author herself should be a real crime-solving special agent. Her books are so exciting and intoxicating. I love them all.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2023Oh man, this was a good one. Lots of blood and gore, but well written and for sure kept my interest.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2020Once again the author proves to be a great storyteller. This is not only thrilling but an excellent character study. Entertaining and hard to put down. This entire series is an enjoyable read but best read in the order as presented by the author. Highly recommended. The timely conclusion leads the reader looking for the next episode in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2020It's been a while since I read my last Brandon Fisher story. Got caught up in another gender... Coming back to Book Six, felt right. I'd given Jack more time to heal than he'd given himself! It was amazing to feel the growth if Jack's relationship with his team and the solid yet trepidation filled support they provide their leader. As always , Arnold provided a case that led the reader down many paths while giving room for characters to interact and develop. So wonderful to return to the series and find Paige and Zach working the case with their unique blend of empathy and academia.
I finished the book in one day and already downloaded books seven and eight. Needless to say, the connections within the FBI are amazing and Arnold's ability to connection to this reader has been reestablished.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book. Shame about the proof reading!!!!
This is another great story from Caroline Arnold and i love the series. HOWEVER, and it's a big however for me do these books ever get proof read???? There were so many mistakes in spelling and errors in words (the wrong ones used) that it really annoyed me. Come on Caroline, please, please get these checked before they go on kindle. I have every book you have written except two.....is it too much to ask that they are checked beforehand?? Thanks anyway, great stories, hence the 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great story
I really enjoy the stories from this author. The main charaters are very good at carring out their duties as they work together. I also like that each character has their own flawed issues, like the rest of us.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written
In the midst of all the gruesomeness of the killings, the author managed to humanize the book with the side stories of the investigators. Enjoy.
