On my last stakeout for Quest Investigations, I nearly got clotheslined by a grove of angry dryads. I expected my bosses to reprimand me, but instead they handed me my first solo assignment. Me! Matt Steinitz, the only human on the Quest roster! Okay, so the mission isn’t exactly demanding. Obviously, the bosses wanted to give me something they think I can’t screw up. Getting into the vampire-only detective unit was the easy part. What’s going to be more difficult is dealing with my new partner - an ancient vampire who keeps threatening to eat me. The unit has never had a human in it. Marcus - or, as I like to call him: Fangy McFangface - would really prefer to keep it that way. He’s grumpy, short-tempered, and broody, but I have a way with words, and I know he’s starting to like me, even if he swears he’s not.

Publisher's summary
This case is really going to the dogs....
After I try a little off-the-books interrogation to locate my selkie almost-boyfriend’s nearly-ex-husband (don’t ask, it’s complicated), I’m in the doghouse again with my bosses, who bust me back to surveillance. Ugh. So when another human inexplicably storms into Quest Investigations—something our security spells ought to prevent since I’m supposed to be the only human admitted to our offices—I’m reduced to staking out local fast food restaurants to check out the guy’s alleged sighting of a giant, glowing-eyed, dumpster-diving spectral hound.
Ridiculous, right? Humiliating, too, not to mention boring. But at least they didn’t fire me.
Imagine my surprise when there actually is a giant, glowing-eyed, dumpster-diving spectral hound—one of the Cwn Annwn, Herne the Hunter’s traitor-tracking dog pack, to be exact. Jeez, who let this dog out? It’s my case, though, so it’s up to me—Matt Steinitz, aka Hugh Mann—to return him to Faerie. But while Herne’s normally hopping kennels are inexplicably unpopulated by pups, they’re playing host to one extremely dead body.
Uh oh. Looks like someone’s bite was a lot worse than their bark.
Guess my love life will have to take a back seat again while we nose out the truth.
Dammit.
The Hound of the Burgervilles is the second in the Quest Investigations M/M mystery series, a spinoff of E.J. Russell’s Mythmatched paranormal rom-com story world. It contains no sex or violence, and although there is a romantic subplot, it is not a romance. The series is best listened to in order.

So much fun!
Ugh, I just love this extended world, and Matt is so easy to empathize with. Especially being obsessed with a brawny Scot. But now I REALLY can’t wait for the next book!!

love this series!!
This was sooo good, so much fun to listen to. Matt/Hugh is human and therefore he feels lesser. It certainly doesn’t help that he is treated like crap. Lachlan unintentionally doesn’t show much concern at the same time acting protective. I absolutely adore all the guys at Quest, they’re like a crazy, dysfunctional family at times. Familiar favorites and exciting new characters. The story is funny and sweet with slow burn romance and fantastic, descriptive world building!!! Greg Boudreaux did fantastic job with the narrative, each voice clear and distinct. Overall, fantastic!! The story is really well written with complicated and complex characters, highly recommend it!!

Fun Mystery
I really enjoyed this mystery. It was fun to read and follow along with the great narration by Greg Boudreaux.
I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

Loved this one...
I'm gonna have to kick Greg Boudreaux up higher in my favorite narrator list because he was awesome here. The accents were awesome and he did a really good job.
Now onto the story. Slight spoilers ahead.
In this one we have Matt-Hu trying to find a way to be with the selkie king. In doing so, he went to the fae realm and got into trouble.
While all this was going on, the office was getting non-stop calls regarding animal control and calls where no one spoke. Come to find out, this was all related. I loved that the dryad and wolf shifter were added to Matt's team. They work well together.
So Zeke, the demon from a previous series, was tortured by a demon and an angel but these two had bigger plans and caused a lot of trouble which ends up being the mystery of the book.
Things get resolved and little by little, Matt and the selkie king get closer.
Still not a romance but it is an awesome detective series.

Great fun
As a Sherlockian for over 50 years, I loved everything about this book from its title to its cover to the "giant hound" whose reality would astound Doyle, Holmes and Watson. Here we have Matt/Hugh caught up in a murder mystery and trying to protect Lachlan from his ex-. The vibe this gave me was the joy of playing with The Hound of the Baskervilles I got from the Wishbone episode that did it when I was younger. Greg Boudreaux did a wonderful job bringing all the characters to life and making you feel the suspense as well as the underlying fun.

Interesting with a dash of wow.
Interesting listen, lots of unexpected twists and turns, and even more beings joining forces for the sake of a dog… and possibly his pack.
Enjoyable and recommendable.

The further adventures of Hugh Mann
This series got off to such a marvelous start, and now it has gotten even better. Russell’s world is robust and imaginative with characters who are realistic and snarky. Lots to love. Add in the amazing Greg Boudreaux, and you have near perfection. Can’t wait to listen to the next, and as many more as there may be.

Love this series!
I'm so glad E.J. Russell is finally speeding up her audio releases. I love her books.
Like most of her stuff, this book is silly, funny, and romantic. Greg does a great job narrating.
