Like I Wished (Heather Bay Book 2) Kindle Edition
Dreaming about my best friend’s brother is one thing, him actually falling for me is another.
Baking cupcakes for the science department bake-off shouldn’t strike fear into the heart of chemistry teacher Noah, but his previous record hasn’t exactly been glowing. In an attempt to stave off another year in last place, Noah turns to the one man who might be able to help him: his best friend’s older brother, Spencer.
Noah’s had a crush on the vibrant and sporty footballer turned baker for years, but the chances of anything happening between them are slim to none. Spencer is caring, funny, gorgeous… and totally straight.
Spencer has never thought about dating men before, but after watching Noah lick buttercream off a whisk he’s suddenly realising he’s not as straight as previously thought.
Revelations about his sexuality are one thing, but his footballing past being dragged into the present is another and Spencer isn’t sure which is more stressful. But he’s sure about one thing: he wants Noah in his life. Now all they have to do is figure out how to make their wishes come true.
Like I Wished is a hot and heart-warming best friend’s brother contemporary MM romance featuring adorable ghost cupcakes, a bisexual awakening over baking, gate-crashed first dates, gym-bro besties, and lots of hot chocolate.
It is book two in the Heather Bay series and while it can be read as a standalone, it’s best enjoyed as part of the series.

About the author

Charlie lives in England with her husband and two cheeky dogs. She spends most of her days wrangling other people’s words in her day job and then trying to force her own onto the page in the evening.
She loves cute stories with a healthy dollop of fluff, plenty of delicious sex, and happily ever afters — because the world needs more of them.
Charlie has very little spare time, but what she does have she fills with baking, Dungeons and Dragons, reading and many other nerdy pursuits. She also thinks that everyone should have at least one favourite dinosaur…

I’m so glad I found her books to read … I’d grown quite tired of the ever angsty stories other authors write.
Thank you Charlie! Please keep up your amazing work!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2022This felt like a giant, warm hug. There was zero angst, just a really sweet story about two men falling in love. I loved how Spencer just embraced his newly realized feelings for Noah, and men in general, and moved out full steam ahead. The UST between them was sizzling, their phone sessions were smoking hot, the dirty talk was fabulous, and once they finally got together they steamed up my kindle! I loved the open and honest communication between them. It was so refreshing and felt very natural. I absolutely loved the whole gang of friends together again. They were such fun and the love and friendship between them all was heartwarming. Such a feel good book with a super sweet HEA!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2024I love Spencer and Noah together. Spencer is the definition of a himbo. So freaking sweet. Noah is the same. The sweetest guy and a good teacher. I loved how he let Spencer take the reins and work through his thoughts. They are perfect together. Also their friend group is amazing.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2024I liked the previous book in the series a lot and had high hopes for Noah and Spencer's book but it wasn't very good.
The characters got together effortlessly and even the supposed football dilemma was completely smooth sailing.
Spencer's bi awakening involved zero drama and absolutely no hesitation. Which is why it's not very convincing.
The chapters seemed to peter out mid scene, which seems to be the only reason it took them so long to get together.
I hope the next book is better.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2022Another great book in this series! I loved Noah and Spencer from the beginning, and I was kinda shouting for them to kiss early on in the book 😍😂 So you can except a bit pining in this one!
Low angst, best friends older brother story. With some delicious hotness, and again Charlie writes the perfect dirty talk!!! Noah and Spencer talk about EVERYTHING!!! And I loved it!!! 😏🔥 I think Charlie writes the connection between the characters so freaking good, not sure I can explain what it is, but she does it so good! I really feel them, if that makes sense.
Great second characters that we know from book 1, they’re each others family of friends. All supportive and loving towards each other.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2024Well written story and well developed characters! Each of these books could be read as stand alone, but you will better enjoy them if you read them in order. Starting with the prequel. A lot of people and places intertwine!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2024Noah and Spencer danced around each other for years. Noah wanted Spencer, Spencer didn't realize he wanted Noah. They are very sweet together, when they finally figure it out.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2022I really loved the characters in this story and it was lovely to see them come together. There story was a really sweet, chill read. Definitely on board for the next book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars so sweet and cute
Such a beautiful story best friend’s brother romance, it was a slow burn with Noah and Spencer having their HEA.
Noah had a crush on Spencer since he realised he was gay, convinced that Spencer was straight he never told anyone, not even his best friend Alex who is Spencer’s brother.
Spencer never thought he might be attracted to men until an epic baking afternoon with Noah, has he always been this cute, has he always been this h*t - from that moment the tension rises and nothing better than to explore it and see where it could go.
Beautiful live story, simple and sweet full of cute moments and a Barbie house 🤣

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute as a couple ghost cupcakes
I had read book one this past summer and recently won a copy of book three of this interconnected series in an author giveaway when I realized that I had completely missed book two. Yikes! That wouldn't do. I read the synopsis and loved the premise (ex-footballer turned baker teaching his brother's best friend how to bake? Take my money!) but I am having a difficult time with this one because while I loved both of the characters I kept waiting for something, anything, to happen. You know how the premise of the show Seinfeld is that it's a show about nothing? Well, that's how this book felt to me.
It was a completely drama-free ride, but I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, which was a rather odd sensation when before I knew it, I realized the story was over. The thing is that even though not a whole lot happens as far as conflict of any kind is concerned, I like the characters and writing so much that I really like this book.
Noah, a teacher who burns boxed brownies needs a miracle to get though the science department bake-off. Enter his best friend's older brother Spencer, the ex-footballer-turned-baker, who is essentially an answer to the prayer he hadn't even dared utter. Noah has been crushing on Spencer for ages, but Spencer is straight, right?
All the typical drama-filled plot points just dissolved like cotton candy in your mouth. Spencer questioning his sexuality? Noah realizing that his crush isn't as unrequited as he initially thought?
The two of them navigating a nosy group of friends and the fact that Spencer is Noah's best friend's brother? None of it caused more that a small ripple in the grand scheme of the book. Even Noah's fluffy body and inability to bake caused barely a blip. It was disconcertingly nice and these two were just so sweet and lovely to read about I can't even be upset that there was absolutely zero angst or adversity for them to overcome, I'm a fan.
