4.7 out of 5 stars 207 ratings

Ripped apart by life, Lich Reaper Grymington Daray is drowning in sorrow. Each day, he strives to find the people responsible for killing his best friend, and he wishes his own existence had more meaning. The last thing on Grymington’s mind is finding the other half of his soul. While a loving family surrounds him, the coldness growing in his heart keeps him separated from joy.

Decades ago, Devlin Nero ran away from the world. Being a rock star was everything Devlin wanted, but it turned into a nightmare. Now, the enchanter-human hybrid is living alone and surrounded by nothing but fading memories. Desperate for happiness, Devlin makes his way to the Council of Sorcery and Shifters and winds up at a sanctuary designed for freaks like him.

On a fateful day, Grymington and Devlin discover they are mates. Sparks fly, and the two men venture forth to honor Fate’s choice for them. However, Grymington is too lost and much too fearful to allow Devlin near his tattered soul. Devlin wants love, but the Lich Reaper may not be able to offer it. If their confusing relationship isn’t enough, they have pasts to reconcile, and the future will not wait. It will be up to Grymington and Devlin to discover if they have a matebond worth saving.

OMG. I just finished chapter one and the reason for Rixon's death finally doesn't hurt! I love the author so much. She makes one feel the rain falling in a story instead of just telling you it happened. His death has always hurt so much before...but now? I am so happy for him!

I will edit to add an update for the end. I just needed to share how awesome this chapter is! What a perfect addition to the story. ☺️

Edit as promised: This was the best book. So many things were addressed. It's hard to mention anything in particular without creating spoilers

I believe it's best to just say that the characters were well developed and information provided that balances the past with the present. This creates a smoother base for future stories involving the Undead Guys imo. (Very well done and as always, a great read.) I highly recommend it.

Once again, the author has pulled us into the world she created for the D’Vaires. As are all of her books, this story was an emotional journey with her characters. There were tears in some places and joy in others. I truly love following the author and this fictional family as their stories continue to develop. I highly recommend reading this entire series and following this amazing author!

I love this series. It's getting a little too distracting from time to time with the addition of secondary and tertiary characters plus mates and no clear over-arching storyline, but still... Every book is truly a gem, and honestly, the difficulties I sometimes face (TBI) keeping track make zero difference to the enjoyment factor. Please don't quit on D'Vaire. One of my all-time favorites!

The divine storyline feels like a tv series plastering over previous season’s plot holes.

The romance starts a bit bumpy, but unlicensed therapy saves the day.

The non-fated-mates plot crawls forward by inches (still no progress on the bombings that took the life of the only other reaper).

When his best friend and fellow reaper. Rixon, is murdered, Lich Reaper Grymmington Daray closes himself off from friends and family. He goes through the motions of life with no one the wiser to his suffering. The goddesses Death and Fate take matters into their own hands and send his mate to him.
Devlin Nero is a rock star, on top of the world. He's also drowning in drugs and alcohol.
These two meet at the D'Vaire sanctuary. Their attraction is instantaneous and mutual. But it takes a lot of family support and intervention before the two get their HEA.
Kingley enjoys torturing her MCs a bit before they reach their happy ending. But one of the things that I really like about this series is that she doesn't give pat solutions. The terrorist organization problem that Grymmie is chasing doesn't mysteriously resolve. This will carry over for a few more books.
Found family, self forgiveness and acceptance are key to this story. There's lots of Daray family dinner mayhem and, sadly, only a bit of D'Vaire insanity in the story. Leaving the reader with a warm feeling and a desire for more.

I have been waiting for Gymmie's book and it didn't disappoint. I felt so bad for him at the beginning of the book. He was so lost and full of sorrow and it was wonderful to see him get his HEA. I also thought Devlin made a great mate for him, but what I really loved was how the rest of the Daray's stepped in to help Grymmie. All in all a wonderful addition to the series.
