Diamonds Under the Mistletoe Kindle Edition
Winter Janvier’s life falls apart just when he thinks he’s on top of the world. With only hours to spare, he completes a dazzling necklace worth a small fortune for the madam who operates the Courtesan Hotel. He’s delighted to ship the jewelry off with a courier, then heads out to celebrate. There is only one problem: the necklace never reaches the hotel and the madam is furious.
The Ex-Cop Turned Murderer
RJ Chandler became a criminal the minute he dedicated his life to getting revenge on the man who slit his throat. The scar he carries reminds him of his new life’s purpose. Unfortunately, he still needs to pay bills, so he works for the madam as an all-around fix-it man. When he is sent to bring Winter Janvier to her, he is struck by Winter’s insistence that he is innocent—and his beauty. Winter swears he would never steal from the madam. RJ wants to believe Winter is telling the truth, so he promises to help find the real thief to buy Winter some time.
Uncovering the Culprit
RJ is suspicious of Winter, but Winter is sweet, which makes RJ want to help. RJ hopes he isn’t making the same mistake twice; he has been fooled before by a pretty face. Will RJ get over his cynical nature to believe in Winter and help him recover the jewelry he owes the madam? Or will RJ end up putting a bullet in a man he is falling for?

About the author

Ki grew up in small town nowhere complaining loudly to anyone who would listen about the never-ending boredom, but among all that solitude was time to write, daily bonfires, and an endless stretch of sky to ripen an overactive imagination. Now, living in Erie, Pennsylvania, Ki enjoys the sandy beaches and appreciates those quiet times a lot more. Ki is a beach bum during the summer, takes on more projects than are strictly healthy, and spends as much time as possible with family.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2022Format: KindleI’ve been following this series and it is entertaining. It keeps me turning pages to see what will happen.
This story is about Winter and RJ. Winter is totally oblivious to what seems to go on around him. Not only oblivious but also naïve. He is a master craftsman at creating jewelry but as for seeing the people around him for who they might be…he doesn’t have a clue. When he is faced with a major issue involving Madam Winters he is totally lacking any way to resolve it. Madam steps in and has RJ set up to deal with Winter. That is until they meet. It’s an instant attraction. From there the entertainment really starts. What I least expected from two so opposite people is what happened. I really enjoyed that Darcy was brought into the story. His attitude and the way he is described by RJ made me laugh.
I have to say I do have a couple issues with this story. I feel that even for an instant attraction this was way to fast. I don’t feel like there is any build up to these two getting together. My second thing is I feel there is a one issue left unresolved. How is Winter supposed to deal with his support of his family. There are easily a number of ways to resolve it but it didn’t happen. I’m not sure why it was even a part of the story since this really was a minor part. Overall, I really enjoyed these two and I look forward to more of this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWinter Janvier is having a very bad day. He finished a commissioned piece for Madam Winters only to have it stolen and his jewelry story burglarized. He has lost everything and is in danger of losing his life for failing to follow through for the tough proprietor of the Courtesan. RJ Chandler is a former cop turned enforcer for Madam Winters who is charged with making Winter reveal what happened or take care of the "problem". What follows is a fast-paced adventure where Winter can seemingly trust no one.
I really liked RJ and Winter together but really wanted to see more of the romance aspect. It all happened so quickly and the relationship developed as quickly. It was almost a little insta-love. The Daddy/boy part of their romance seemed to fit and was well done. I figured out the bad guy fairly quickly but was surprised by the connection between Winter, RJ, and the others.
All in all, it was a pleasant addition to the New Gothenburg world. I really liked seeing some of our old favorites (hello King and Undertaker). It also made me want to reread some of their stories. I love this world that Ki (and Meg as well) have developed. I am always happy to revisit them. If you've not read any previous books, I think you could read this one and still enjoy it. I highly recommend this world!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI always enjoy a book from the New Gothenburg universe. They’re wild, OTT and dirty. I loved getting to see the Undertaker again, also is Piers gonna have his own book?? 👀
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI adored this short story/glimpse into new New Gothenburg characters and seeing a few old/regular characters. Winter was just sweet right off the bat and I liked his innocence. RJ was the right mix of gruff and sweet. The story was fun and sexy and just enough holiday cheer to make it the perfect little Christmas story for NG.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2022Format: KindleWinter is the high end jeweler for the New Gothenburg area who has just finished a custom piece for Madam Winters of the Courtesan Hotel. Winter gives the piece to who he believes is a courier for the Madam, however she never receives the pieces.
RJ is one of Madam Winters body guards, and fix-it men. He is sent to retrieve Winter, and the exclusive jewelry he made for the Madam. He finds that a long con heist has taken place at Winter's shop, starting with the custom pieces. The person who performed the heist also has history with RJ from his time on the force.
It is up to RJ to help Winter clear his name, and debt to Madam Winters. They employ RJ's detective skills, and promises of a finder's fee to the Kings of Men MC. It is a life or death race to find the things stolen from Winter which brings the two men much closer than they would have thought possible.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2022Format: KindleSet in the New Gothemburg universe, this book features Winter, a rather naive jeweler who fabricates one-of-a-kind, high-end jewelry, and RJ, the former cop turned muscle enforcer for the Madame of The Courtesan hotel/brothel. RJ is also an angry, distrustful man seeking revenge against the man who slit his throat years earlier, leaving an obvious scar on his neck.
As the story opens, Winter has been commissioned to create an outstanding necklace set for the Madame, but when he sends it to the hotel by courier, it never arrives. The Madame is furious at being taken advantage of and she sends RJ to rough up and possibly kill Winter. The problem is that RJ believes that Winter was also taken advantage of as another victim of the crime, so he agrees to help him to solve the mystery. When attraction turns to a desire for more, can these two men work through their challenges to make a life together?
This book has a Daddy/boy vibe with light bondage. Some other cute surprises pop up, but no spoilers here. Also, there are plenty of cameos from other characters in this universe and a special kind of love between Winter and RJ. It's set against the Christmas season, so it makes for a rather unusual, but entertaining holiday read.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2022Format: KindleKi Brightly has done it again. This book brings heat to the holiday and couples it with the perfect amount of mystery. There were so many little twists thrown in! I finished it in one sitting. Winter and RJ are such a great couple! Winter is a bit shy, timid but RJ brings out the feisty side of him. RJ is grumpy and still holding on to his anger from a past relationship gone south, but Winter is his sunshine. They play off of each other so well. I absolutely loved getting glimpses of so many other New Gothenburg characters like Madam Winters and Darcy, the Kings, even Alton and Noah. This author always does such a great job weaving stories within the bigger world, and this addition is no exception! Looking forward to reading more from them in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and saucy story
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed this story about a jewelry maker called Winter who works in New Gothenburg and runs into a spot of trouble and ends up having to get help from RJ who works for the Madam at The Courtesan Hotel. Even though it has many of the harder elements of a standard New Gothenburg story I would characterize this book as sweet. I don’t know if it’s because it’s set over Christmas which is a season that I love but it just made me smile. A big part of it is the way that the relationship develops between RJ and Winter and that is driven mostly by how sweet, trusting and a bit naive Winter is. Ki Brightly does a terrific job of balancing this out so that Winter doesn’t come across as stupid at all just a guy who has decided to be nice and expects everyone else to be that way.
