About the author

Amy's lived with her head in the clouds since she first picked up a book as a child, and being fluent in two languages means she's read a lot of books! She first picked up a pen on a rainy day in fourth grade when her class had to stay inside for recess. Tales of treasure hunts with her classmates eventually morphed into love stories between men, and she's been writing ever since. She writes evenings and weekends—or whenever she isn't at her full-time day job saving the planet at Canada's largest environmental non-profit.
An unapologetic introvert, Amy reads too much and socializes too little, with no regrets. She loves connecting with readers. Join her Facebook Group to stay up-to-date on upcoming releases and for access to early teasers, find her on Instagram and Twitter, or sign up for her infrequent newsletter.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2022First time reading this author and I am absolutely hooked. This book is my first in this series, definitely won’t be my last and now I have to read the rest of this series. Although there are characters mentioned from prior books, I was able to read as a stand-alone.
The character development for these MCs is fantastic. You get such an understanding of who they are and they feel so complete. And the road they take from the beginning of the book to the HEA is so well done and you are with there with these characters as they take this journey. The evolution of their friendship into a caring and nurturing relationship seems so natural and it’s just a well rounded storyline.
I enjoyed the secondary characters in the book and absolutely have to go back and read the others in the series and catch up on everyone. I see Coach Shore is getting a book next and will definitely be reading the new trilogy and I can’t wait to see who is next in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2022What a fantastic book!
I love it, I love it. What characters...Felix and Emery…they are so adorable, loving each for so many years but afraid that being together could ruin their friendship
The way Emery is so protective of Felix is so sweet, the way he doesn’s sleep so Felix can feel safe…
It was the first book I’ve read from Amy Aislin but now I’m gonna read the previous books from this series.
I don’t really follow hockey, but now I’m became addicted
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book
- Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2023I’ve got a bit of a cold right now so my brain is pretty much useless for a review other then yelling about how much I loved this book. This was such a good place to end the series, it ties things up nicely and it doesn’t feel like anything is missing. It was cute and fun and just the right amount of angsty. And it just hit all the right notes for me. I loved Felix and Emery to pieces and I loved that they were both so focused on using their wealth and platforms to do good things in their communities. It was just a really nice read overall. Star Of The Game is getting five stars from me!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2022Star of the Game is the 6th stand alone in Amy Aislin's mm hockey series, Stick Side. This one follows childhood best friends Emery and Felix as they finally take the chance to turn their friendship into more.
There is a lot of great in this one. The queer rep with a gay MC and a pansexual MC. It's a slow burn with and mild steam. There's not a whole lot of sexual angst between them since they both are just sort of waiting for the right time to take that next step and there's no questioning how the other feels but more of a fear of what if they dont work out. There;s also some fantastic mental health with emphasis on every person's experience being different and no one's trauma is less than someone else's. Our MCs goes to therapy and gets help when he struggles.
Overall, Star of the Game by Amy Aislin is a low angst , low drama mm hockey romance. A best friends to lovers with quality series cameos, a celebrity, a hockey player, musical theater, non-profits, an awards show, and a happy ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2023Loved this story!! Felix and emery are the perfect pairing. The slow burn over more than a decade as they have been best friends for so long and wanted each other for who knows how many years, but fear of losing their friendship stalled their progress. Loved their crackling tension and the nail biting moments where you wanted to scream ‘kiss him!!’ Loved the story. And how you got to see their friendship in so many different situations as well as how they were when they couldn’t not be all over one another. Can’t wait for more. Hopefully we get a story for Charlie and a story for melnik, ooo and Max and darraugh.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2023Best friends forever, they both were too chicken to admit to each other they felt more. Once they did, they could truly be there for each other in every way. Through Felix’s traumatic experience Emery was a constant support. Really sweet story. Enjoyed this series so much.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2022I enjoyed that this installment in the series, which can be read as a standalone, goes to another new city while following the expanding circle of the series.
There's more behind-the-scenes hockey than game play, especially since only one MC is a player but having Felix's experiences and point of view brought a new twist. It was fun to see Mitch from someone else's point of view.
Felix is dealing with trauma from an event at the beginning of the book. Both Felix and Emery learn about themselves which gives emotional depth.
I've read it twice, which bumps it to 5 stars in my rating system.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2023Each book in this series is great, and as a reader you are immediately sucked into these characters and their world effortlessly. This book also handled PTSD with sensitivity which was great to see. Sometimes in books, characters experience all kinds of trauma and seem to have zero after affects, which rarely happens IRL. Hope this series is endless…

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow slow burn
A sweet story with interesting character arcs for both Felix and Emery. How do BFFs make the transition from friends to lovers? In this story very very slowly. At times the book struggled to keep me reading as not a lot happened. Just everyday life for a pop star dealing with the repercussions of trauma and a hockey star's daily life. This is a definite audience for this story. Just not me.
