Graceless: An MM Enemies to Lovers Romance (Graceless Duet Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 324 ratings

One young man with a secret that can damage a political career and his family’s reputation.
One superstar on the rise with a secret that can destroy the other man’s life.
Their fates shouldn’t have collided…
Except one of them takes matters into his own hands.

College student Dylan Watson has spent the past three years mourning the mysterious death of his beloved sister and hating her bandmate–he's convinced Iodine’s lead singer Kai Delisa had something to do with Ava’s "accident." When her old band unexpectedly signs a massive record deal with a major label, Dylan decides to do what he should have done years ago–find out exactly what happened that tragic night.

For an up-and-coming rock star, Kai isn't an easy man to track down. There's precious little info about him online, and what's there is more confusing than enlightening. But when Dylan’s and Kai's paths finally cross, the meeting triggers a chain of events that unravels Dylan’s life and shatters the cherished image of his sister.

What’s worse? Kai threatens the one secret Dylan has tried to hide since high school: he likes men. And despite years of hating Kai, their time together makes two things crystal clear. Dylan's attracted to him, and that attraction is mutual.

Torn between the dark past he can’t shake off and the uncertain future he might be able to have if he dares to give in to the allure of the intense chemistry he has with Kai, Dylan is now facing some hard choices.

Graceless is a high-angst, slow-burn MM romance that explores the following themes: depression, mental illness, suicide, and abuse.

_________

Graceless is the first installment of the duet. Dylan and Kai’s story concludes in Faithful. It's written in Dylan's POV in first person present tense.

I don't particularly like rock stars or musos in my reading but this one had a pretty, pretty cover and an intriguing, psychological sounding blurb so I was in. I've also had some ordinary reading experiences of late with new to me authors, this one wasn't one of those.

There is a lot of introspection in this book. One POV, that's him on the cover - Dylan - the son of a very wealthy property developer and a powerful conservative senator. The other MC is a lead singer of an up and coming band who is incredibly enigmatic.

The book comes in at 362 Kindle pages and normally I wouldn't be so happy with it being a contemporary romance and this long, but I was sucked right in. It also has quite a depressed undertow and it has triggers, they're listed at the bottom of the blurb and they are all spot on. If it doesn't say 'stalker' and 'obsessive' in the tags, then add those.

I loved the hell out of the book.

Woah. Intense doesn't begin to cover what this book is. Definitely high angst and emotional to the nth degree. It is not something I could read in one sitting. I needed many breaks. The characters were well developed and I liked the world building in this one. But it is a hard read because of everything the characters go through, which is why it is a good book. It invokes emotions that will have you clutching your throat. It is not pretty and is very dark, so that if that is the kind of book you like, you should read this! 4 stars.

PS...it does end in a cliff hanger, so you will need to read book 2. It is NOT a standalone.

I liked the story but if I had known it was going to end unfinished I probably would not have started it. I’m not a fan of books that require you to buy the sequel.

This book is phenomenal. It’s raw, emotional, and most importantly beautiful. I love the two main guys and will probably reread their words for many times to come. Truly, for anyone who loves mm, romance, with tragic backstory…do not miss this one.

An emotional and intense romance story! Dylan and Kai has a connection, but it doesn’t start that way. Ava is Dylan sister who has passed and Kai is someone who can answer the questions he has, but he is confuse with the feelings that he gets around him. This enemies to lovers MM romance read will suck you in as the characters come alive with their painful and emotional situation. And as their story gets good it ends with a cliffhanger and will leave you wanting more of the pain, darkness and angst throughout the storyline. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this newest release that doesn’t disappoint.

A brand new duet by NN Britt begins right here and now with book 1, Graceless. This author brings her signature angst to every story she writes and I am beyond thrilled when a new one drops into my Kindle. She's exploring something she hasn't done before- a MM romance with a special rockstar twist. NN Britt has pulled me so deep into these complicated character's world, that I read this book in record time, within a day of starting it. Graceless is just that amazing and definitely difficult to put down.

Graceless is seen entirely through the eyes of one of the main characters, Dylan Watson, which was a surprise. This intriguing guy had my heart flipping all over the place throughout this book and his story was so compelling. The Watson family may be living the life of wealth and privilege, but only under the soul crushing control of their ultra conservative politician patriarch. Much is expected of his wife and their children- Dylan and his free spirited older sister, Ava. It doesn't matter what future they envision for themselves, decisions are made FOR them based on what fits into the image their father wants them to portray. Stifling is such a mild word for what they have to indure while living under his thumb. Gavin Watson screamed EVIL VILLIAN to me, for good reason.

Flashbacks of Ava gave me a snapshot of the bond between Dylan and his sister and the events leading up to her tragic death, just as the life she defied her father for was starting to take off. After she was gone, anxiety, fear, grief and anger laced every moment in Dylan's life, no matter who, what, why or when. He could barely function in social situations, was flunking his classes and had only one friend he could count on. I sensed he was hiding something really big beyond all that and I wasn't wrong.

Kai Delisa, the brooding and darkly mysterious lead singer of Iodine, his deceased sister's former band, was where Dylan's burning anger was directed. This guy he was stalking had information he needed to know everything about- the truth about Ava's death and if he can conjure up the nerve, he was going to get it. Confronting and despising Kai became Dylan's secret mission, obession and later on, his salvation.

Wow, as the story continued it became perfectly clear to me - the Watsons were one messed up family. The things Dylan's father did were inexcusable, mean, heartless and abusive- I hoped he would get what was coming to him someday. His poor mother, crushed by her loss, was out of her head most days and I felt the pain of her grief. Who would want to live in this upscale hellhole?

As Dylan tries to navigate all the conflicted feelings inside of him- a few things becomes evident- his hate/ love attraction to the sexy lead singer might be his biggest downfall and maybe the bad guy isn't what he thought at all. Dylan is so afraid to be who he is meant to- an out of the closet gay man in an extremely conservative family- probably not the best idea. Will Dylan chose happiness and freedom or stay in the shadows where it's safe?

    “Is this still a secret?”
“It’s a secret for as long you want it to be a secret, Dylan.”

The phrase 'rollercoaster ride' is often used to describe the emotional, unpredictable events in a story, but it explains just a fragment of what happens in Graceless. Angsty, suspenseful and steamy as some secrets build while others stay behind closed doors. Where will Dylan and Kai's story go from here? Only time will tell. There may be more to discover between the represessed man and the rockstar, but no worries- Faithful, the duet's exciting conclusion will not be far behind.

I was given an early copy of this book to read and honestly review.

This is part of a duet and ends in a cliffhanger.
This story centers on Dylan and Kai and is told from Dylan’s POV. This is an enemies to lovers story.
Dylan is a college student trying to handle grief and depression over his sister’s supposed suicide. Dylan is trying to find answers since he doesn’t believe it.
Kai, a member of the band Ava was part of, was with her the night she died. Dylan believes Kai had something to do with Ava’s death and he is bound and determined to find out answers. This story has many side issues going on and way more questions than answers. There is nothing yet about Kai’s background. I’m anxious to read the second part.

This is a very intense story. A lot of pain carried by both Dylan and Kai. While it really is advised to pay attention to the trigger warnings, this book is worth the tears and emotions.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

5.0 out of 5 stars intense story driven read.

It’s single POV and told through Dylan.

We see him struggle to come to terms with his sisters death and blames Kai. We hear through Dylan’s thoughts how his life has tied him to living a lie. He has the usual homophobic father .. and yes he’s a complete d*^k!! But I really enjoyed reading this story through Dylan’s voice. It ends on a cliffhanger so you may want to wait until Faithful is out in a couple of weeks time! This is no easy story. It deals with grief, anger, homophobic parent and secrets. All good stuff to feel that you need these two, to get together freely in book 2- but that looks to be a tough read as well. And we learn more about Kai- not sure if I want the next story to be Dylan or Kai’s POV but either way… I’m looking forward to how these two find their way to be together.

You can feed me a big ol' spoon of true enemies-to-lovers any-damn-day and I 👏🏾 will👏🏾 eat👏🏾 that 👏🏾ish 👏🏾up! This one served and it served pipping hot!

Fair warning, this is book 1 of a duet. So yes, there is a cliffhanger (nothing too major imo). Clearly I am a masochist, and now wish I had both books to binge. Even worse, I'm a sad masochist...booo

When I started reading, I honestly didn't know what I was getting myself into lmao yes, I read the blurb 😂. I didn't expect how much it would consume and engross me. At first it was slow, almost excruciatingly. But there was something about the atmosphere of the story that begged my rapt attention, and I'm glad I stayed. Then it picked up and for the life of me, I couldn't put it down 😩

Graceless is told solely from Dylan's POV and opens at a critical time in his life where to me, it felt like openly watching a person drown and not having the means to pull them to safety. Still reeling from the death of sister (three years prior), something about him felt...unsettled, and rightly so. I meann growing up wealthy but in a terrible home can do that to a person. There was so much about his identity that felt askew and disorganized; and it reflected even in his thoughts and reactions. The beginning of the book is full of inner monologues seeped in sadness and pain and I just wanted to hug the damn boy gahh 😭

Whether in an attempt to find closure or simply to channel his rage, he finds a new obsession in the events surrounding his sister's death almost to the point of becoming unhinged. His obsession leads him to stalking Kai....Kai, who is shrouded in so much mystery that even after reading this first 'episode' I have not the darndest clue who he really is 🥴🥴 All I know is that he's wicked smart, witty, never straightforward with his answers, and definitely has a dark past. Oh! And he drives a Dodge Grand Caravan which is so not on brand with his broodiness but like I respect it. And while they were naturally enemies, Kai and Dylan to each other were also like moths to a flame. Try as they may, they couldn't stay away from each other. I loved them together, I loved their banter, their subtle touches, their aggressive kisses 🥵

This was a true enemies-to-lovers in the sense that there is such animosity between them, that even when the reader thinks the ice may be thinning, a cold draft suddenly blows through them again. It was perfection to me. And while it didn't feel angsty, it definitely had a somber texture to the words and the prose. OHMYGAWD THE PROSE. THIS. AUTHOR. CAN. FREAKING. WRITE. 😩 This was so beautifully pieced together, laced with metaphors, and all-that-good-stuff-that-i-just-cant-find-the-words-for but are well reflected in my pages and pages of highlights and bookmarks!!

I will do anything to read book 2 right this second 😭😭 I want moreeee Kai and Dylan please 🙏🏾.

I'm not a fan of same sex romances and would normally give them a miss. I read this story simply because the author is a favourite of mine and I have read every book she has released so far and i found the plot line intriguing. I was going to skip the sex scenes but read them anyway and felt indifferent about them. I didn't like the book cover and I was confused as to who it's meant to be representing Dylan or Kai as both of them had shoulder length hair until one of them had a haircut towards the end of the story and then matched the image on the front. it was very slow paced but I enjoyed it and will be reading part two.

Dylan is both angry and depressed since his sister Ava’s death by suicide. The guy she was with the night she jumps off a bridge, her bandmate Kai, is someone Dylan hates.

He becomes obsessed with Kai, seeking him out at concerts and punching him after he gets no answers.

At the same time, he’s drawn to Kai as a dark, ethereal figure he can’t stay away from. It seems mutual when Kai starts reaching out to him too, and they talk about Ava’s life and death.

Dylan’s controlling father, a religious politician, has created deep seated fear and loathing inside Dylan for being gay, but Kai makes him want to break away.

He finishes school and begins standing up to his Dad, plans to move out with his best friend, then Kai tells him they need to pause as he’s in the limelight in some trouble.

This dark story has some intriguing elements, but Kai’s persona is too distant, his answers too cryptic, so Ava’s death isn’t cleared up well.

Also, Dylan’s mental health seems precarious at best, and he seems to be against therapy even though he’s graduating as a social worker.

Some light begins to shine near the end when he plans to move out, but it’s left on pause for book 2 to continue the story.

However, with the frustrating riddles and unsatisfying conversations, as well as Dylan ignoring his best friend and not acknowledging his problems, I’ll stop reading here.
