Sins That Find Us: A Dark Mafia Romance (Madly Ever After Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 240 ratings

My name might be Alice, and this sure as hell isn’t wonderland, but everyone is definitely a little mad here.

My life is a series of near misses. Or, at least, it was. But the man who saved me at the bar from a guy who definitely didn’t have the best intentions, might have even worse ones.

And so do his friends. Knowing who my father is, I know better than to talk to strangers, and it’s just my luck that my four knights in shining armor have their own vendetta against him.

The next thing I know, I’m a damsel in distress—a pawn in their game against my father because I’m his one weak link. But the longer I stay on this little island of misfit toys, the more things start to become clear, and the people I thought were heroes might very well be the villains in my story.

Then again, I always did think Wendy might love Hook more, and that the Beauty wanted her Beast, that Ariel deserved a bit of revenge. And, last but not least, that Hades—the King—absolutely deserved his queen.

The Sins That Find Us is the first book in a MFMMM, modern fractured fairy tale trilogy that tells the story of how heroes and villains might not always be what they seem. It features MF, MMF, and MM scenes, and ends on a cliffhanger.

***There is short prequel novella called "Mifits" that is available free for signing up for the E.M. Lindsey newsletter. The link is at the beginning of the book near the CW. It's worth reading because it gives some background into the guy's dynamic and an incident that is referred to in this book that helped cement the roles in this chosen family and why.***
This series is going to make the vast majority of RH/Polyamorous books really suffer by comparison, I can tell. The action is fully on pace by the end of the book, heading into the next and I can't wait. This book is a methodical and remarkable study into this found family of misfits, "Misfit toys" as Ari calls them, their relationships to one another, their power dynamic and the motivations behind their mission to take Alice. "Sins That Find Us" is a bit on the quiet side, as it introduces us to the sort of PSYOPS that Kane seems to favor in dealing with both his enemies and his loves. The pace never felt like it was flagging due to the incredible writing and character development. The boys have established a relationship that works for them, and is as close to love as they think they can feel with the psychological burdens that they each carry. They have found in one another: security, sexual physicality, comaraderie, shared purpose and a sense of direction thanks to Kane's firm guidance. However, there seems to be a component missing, and they definitely sense that Alice, whom they have watched for quite awhile, could truly shake their unit to the core, or potentially destroy it. Their is a certain appetite for that and also fear. Having Alice dropped into the middle of that is fascinating, but she has been so emotionally neglected that she seems willing to slot herself into their family wherever they'll let her (IF they will let her) - she's not a total doormat, though. She has never had the opportunity to discover what she is in an interpersonal sense with other people, as she has been kept so isolated because of who her father is.
Left with the quintessential cliffhanger, I'm onto the next with our h and her morally gray misfits.

Definitely enjoying this darker version of EM Lindsey! I’m loving that so many different fairytales and Greek myths are being weaved into this dark revenge story. It is really well done. Alice is being used as a pawn in a game of chess, but she’s falling for the beasts in the castle, and will eventually be the queen of Tartarus, wife of Hades. So many tales mixed in to tell the tale of revenge for the horrible things done to Kane, Phoenix, Ari, and James. These four men are are all dangerous but of course weak for those they love and I can’t wait to see how this story unfolds…

Please be aware of any possible triggers. This book is dark. The entire series is dark. Also we do have a cliffhanger but the next book is coming out pretty quickly. This is a fairy tale retelling of something that honestly isn’t done enough. I will let you figure it out. 😉 Kane and his Misfits do not have pure intentions when it comes to Alice. She is the daughter of their enemy and they want to use her to destroy him. I won’t give spoilers. Who is the real enemy? Which is the real prison and the real hell? There are many different ways to show love and care, and it can often come from the place you least expect. I absolutely loved Kane and his fellow morally gray fellow insane men. Kane, Ari, Jamie, and Phoenix are all special in their own way. Each person is broken in some way, yet whole when together. It is a different kind of poetry and magic. What happens when they find their missing piece? Their unexpected missing piece? I knew this book would be good because EM Lindsey hasn’t let me down yet. This is such a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions and I loved every page!!!!! I have always secretly thought the queen of the underworld held all of the power.

    Title: Sins That Find Us
    Author: E. M. Lindsey
    Format: ebook
Genre: RH, MMMMF, dark mafia romance
    Standalone: nope
Part of a Series: book 1 of Madly Ever After
POV: Alice, Kane, James, Phoenix, Ariel
    Steam Level: toasty
    5/5

Dark, deprived and delicious. Aluce is a college student desperate to get away from her mafia father. Kane, Ariel, Phoenix and Hames all have a grudge against her father. Aluce can be their pawn or tool. I lived that the guts in this harem have scars - literal and emotional scars that make them but you Mr typical heroes. Thus is a great start to this trilogy and I cannot wait to see what will happen next.

𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘥 is a very unique twist on {𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒍} the favorite fairy tales. Which in itself is creative!!

It is a very enjoyable read with a lot of dark content {it is a crime family based story}. However, I would classify this book as “light” dark {??}. It’s a fantastic choice for someone dipping their toes into the darker reads … or a reader who knows their preferences are 𝒏𝒐𝒕 on the dark side.

    DEFINITE CLIFFHANGER!!

As a devoted EM Lindsey fan, this is definitely a darker plot that we are used to. So, beware if you are looking for a feel-good romp. It took me a few chapters to realign my expectations, but once I did I fell in love like I always do.
The things that make a Lindsey book great - the character development, the devotion and care between characters and an immersion in their world are all still there, making this a great start to a complicated series!
    *Also note, it’s a cliffhanger!*

5.0 out of 5 stars Alice goes to a wonderland of a different sort.

I’m so glad that I found this series after more books had been written (even if not quite published as I write this review) because this one is very compelling and ends on a cliffhanger. The relationships between the four men who take Alice are fascinating and complex and E.M. Lindsey does a marvelous job of giving us little insights and slowly pulling back the curtains for both us and Alice to be able to start to figure out what is going on. It’s all a bit like a weird dance of three steps forward two steps back. I just know I’m going to have the biggest book hangover when this series ends. I can’t wait!

Beautifully dark and delicious. I loved this book as soon as I started to read it. The characters are superb and I love them all. Alice is surprisingly very apt at understanding each man's needs and continually surprises all of them. I love the way the story is starting to unfurl with an important twist regarding Alice. They have all started getting feels for Alice which was never part of the plan but this book was very good and I can't wait to start the next one right away. I hope you enjoy this wondrous dark journey as I have.

4.0 out of 5 stars great new dark series!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 12, 2023
This is the first book in this new dark series. It’s about a mafia leader Kane who wants revenge on his rival. He decides to kidnap his rival’s daughter Alice who he and his 3 men/lovers have been keeping a close eye on for years.

Phoenix, James and Ariel all have some sort of disability as a result of Kanes rival and we’re saved by Kane and loved back to life. The bond between these 4 men is incredible. However watching Alice for so long has also awakened something in these 4 men and in this book we see the 5 of them get to grips with their new environment of living together. Meanwhile Alice learns a few truths and lies she never knew about with regards to her family and learns why she is now with Kane and his men.

The story is told in 5 pov and we have each character’s voices which at first takes a bit to get used to but then it all blends together at the end. This is a mixed scene book with mf, mm and more.

There’s a cliffhanger at the end bu5 the next book I the series is coming out soon. All three books center around the 5 characters with a few twists and turns and I found myself enjoying this dark and slightly quirky fairytale story.

I don’t know if I have words to describe this book. Dark. And painful. And so so good. It has an end-of-days dystopian feel at the start but then with the introduction of Alice to the misfit toys home you see hope. Of course it’s ripped away in the last paragraph.

I love good MM, MMM, and MMMM. I’ve never been a fan of adding an F to the mix. So I was honestly hesitant to read this. But EM Lindsay has written these characters and the feelings so well that I was able to completely enjoy it.

Can’t wait for the next book!
