To Hunt A Moonborn Beast (The Lycanthrope Protection Agency Book 1) Kindle Edition
The trauma of his abduction has left Max Gallagher with scars that run more than skin deep. Gabe holds him when he has nightmares, protects him from his enemies, and helps him become stronger every day. Max's wolf knows they've found their fated mate, but Max fears he's too damaged to be good enough for Gabe.
As the cult closes in, Gabe and Max must decide if their love is worth fighting for before it's too late.
The first in the complete Lycanthrope Protection Agency series, To Hunt a Moonborn Beast features fated mates, found family, and lots of hurt/comfort. The first three books follow Gabe and Max's journey to their happy ending while the final three are standalones focusing on different couples.

CJ Ravenna loves to tell stories where the ordinary meets the extraordinary. Her books often feature an explosion or two, possessive and protective werewolves who adore their mates, steamy and swoony romance, and of course a happy ending.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseRandom sale on Zon... sure, count me in. What was the result of this lil order? Me finding an amazing book I didn't know existed.
No, seriously, why when we see people talk about wolf shifter books, this series is not part of those top recommendations?
I started this book with 0 expectations, hadn't read the blurb, didn't know the tropes, nothing. I just saw the cover, saw the wolf and that was it. Now, what came next was the real surprise.
This book is part of the Lycanthrope Protection Agency. The first 3 books are about the same couple, and the next 3 are about different couples from the LPA.
As I was saying, I did not know what to expect, but let me tell you, this story is absolutely amazing. It is action-packed, we have wolves, drama, fated mates, and an amazing found family. Ugh, top tier.
Since the first 3 books are from Gabe's and Max's POV, the book ends in a cliffhanger... keep this in mind if you decide to start it.
I loved being in both pov's even tho sometimes it was hard to follow since it didn't say who's next and it is in 3rd person POV. You get used to it after a while, but, again, just to have this in mind.
I don't get why not more people read this book, Max & Gabe are omg couple goals. Them being fated mates only makes things even better. Their love grows so beautifully, so organically. Ahhhh... even if I'm not usually a fan of slow burn. In this book, it was total worth it. This book is totally worth it.
If you like shifter werewolf romances, fated mates & an amazing pack, then this book is for you.
10/10, for sure, highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the first time that I have read from this Author and although I like the premise of this Book the angst in this Book was off the chains. Don't get me wrong I always love how different Authors interpret this genre because this subject has become quite satiated . There was a lot of back and forth with the main love interest that really dragged on . So I'm hoping that there will be less angst in the next book than there was in this book
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe story is entertaining but can be frustrating. There is a lot going on and the dialogue and character reactions don’t alway make sense. I’m also not really a fan of max and Gabe’s story stretching over three books but that’s not really my style.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat a fantastic way to start a new series! The characters come alive from the first pages. I was completely caught up in their lives. Yes, there is violence, kidnapping, and abuse. There is also understanding, compassion, loyalty, prophesy, and passion. You will be swept away. The story continues. I can't wait to read the next book. You need to read this book. Now!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI’m ready to see this thru. This was a really good start to the series. I enjoyed watching these two find their way together. While it’s kinda insta it’s very one sided for a while. Meaning they both love each other fast, but they get in their own way so the other doesn’t find out until later. I love the found family and I can wait to see where they go.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2024Format: KindleFrom the first page I was glued to Max Gallagher’s story, a story of abuse and the sadness that comes with reading about it.
Max is a human-wolf hybrid in a world where werewolves have been accepted but hybrids have not. Bullied in school and by his stepfather Max has only known hate. When his mother first married Richard everything seemed wonderful until his true self showed himself. Richard hates hybrids, they are a curse on pure wolves and need to die and he does everything in his power to break Max.
Richard’s hatred finally pushed him to lock Max up, beat him, belittle him till Max finally believed everything he said about him. Unable to fight back Max is turned over to John Jones the leader of the Moonborn Cult who capture hybrids and viciously kill them. Max is chained and locked in a cage at this point feral.
Gabe Reyes works for the Lycanthrope Protection Agency; his job is to find hybrids in need of help. While rescuing two children he smells something amazing, and it leads him to a feral wolf, his partner smells dirt and blood. When he approaches the wolf, he is attacked and tranquilized and brought to the Agency hoping they can help him. He is unable to switch to human and it seems unlikely that he can ever maintain his humanity.
Locked in a cage, Gabe finds himself caring for the little red wolf who he calls Lobito. The little wolf is not aggressive towards Gabe now that he has calmed down a little and when Gabe takes him out of the cage Lobito lays in his lap. The little red wolf is finally able to switch to his human side thanks to Gabe but other than his name, which is Max, he doesn’t bond with anyone else.
An ad about Max brings his mother to the Agency but he doesn’t willingly accept her. Max has always felt like a failure, and a coward who couldn’t protect his mother now his guilt keeps him from embracing her and his belief that she is ashamed of him. It is only Gabe that gets through to Max and he has feelings for his rescuer but has no faith in being cared for by another person because he is weak and not deserving of love.
Like Max, Gabe suffered at the hands of John Jones who kidnapped him when he was young and took great pleasure in torturing him. Gabe is a hybrid and Jones killed his father now he is consumed with hatred and a desire to kill the beast that tortured him and killed his father.
The search for John Jones is ongoing while Jones and Richard are after Max, a red wolf which is very rare. The agency is attacked, they are betrayed and what should have been the good guys against the bad wound up a trap leaving more agents dead.
This book has surprises, betrayal, lies, secrets, violence and abuse. A lot happens, some of it suspenseful, some sad. I was very interested in Max’s story because whether a hybrid or a human child abuse is something performed by monsters.
I highly recommend this series and look forward to more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing debut
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt took me a minute to get into it as it always does with a book written in 3rd person! (My brain just gets confused), but once I was sorted, I couldn't put it down.
The book is really well written, the world building was phenomenal, and I loved all of the characters, the good and the bad! Because theres a lot of bad guys who need to be unalived!!!
Max was such a good character. That poor broken man. He has been through so much but is so strong, and I can't wait to see what he does in the next books.
Gabe..... what a stubborn man!! It took him a hot minute to pull his head out of his ass and see Max for who he was, but when he did, he was a cute little cinnamon roll 🥰.
Im so excited for the rest of the series to see what happens because I can tell we have only just scratched the surface with this book and can't wait for more

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun Debut Novel - With Some Ups and Downs
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA great debut!
This book had me turning pages until the end, needing to know the outcome.
I loved the characters from the start, and all of them were very unique in my mind as soon as I met them.
There were some pacing issues, with the story seeming to jump a little, the transitions lacking.
I also found there was a lot of repetition in terms of reactions of the different characters. Many of the characters seemed to react in the same way described with the same language: hands fisted, claws biting in palms… fangs extending and piercing the bottom lip. Etc.
I liked the overall plot but there were a few times that the plot points seemed a little forced, and left me feeling a little frustrated with the characters. Several times throughout the book they’re in mortal peril, and do not beat the bad guy… however they seem to just go about their lives as though it’s no big deal… and don’t seem to dwell on it. However, when the big bad shows up again it’s intense drama and angst over how it’s still a problem. That drew me out of the story a few times. Example: you’re specifically being targeted and hunted by a bad guy but it seems like a great idea to shift and go running through Central Park instead of staying in the safe house?
OVERALL I really enjoyed this book. I love the world building. I LOOOOVEEEE the characters ( and I’m hoping future books in the series will shift focus to some of them so I can get more of them). CJ Ravenna will definitely be on my “to watch” list for the future.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI love fated mates, hurt/comfort and slow burn. Max and Gabe hit all my favourite things in a PNR.
I really enjoyed the world building and the characters, the beginning started strong and then went a bit flat and picked up again.
Some things had me absolutely hooked and others I found a bit repetitive.
I am interested in what happens next.
