Coal Volsunga is a dragon convinced he’s better off alone…

As alone as a dragon who is part of a pack can be, that is. Although he loves the work, his feelings are starting to get involved, especially for a wolf entirely too involved with pack life for a loner like Coal.

Jack “Scout” Jerrick is a wolf with two packs, but only one heart…

Dividing his time between his father’s pack and his new one hasn’t been an issue for Scout. He’s learning to protect the secrets of the shifter world and the innocents involved in a dangerous war over magic and power. But when he develops feelings for the cantankerous dragon in his new pack, things begin to get a whole lot more complicated.

…learn to love and heal when nothing is as it seems,

…and realize when it comes to being mates, there’s nothing they won’t do to save each other.

Another Stellar Installment in THE CHOSEN ONE Universe

Another Stellar Installment in THE CHOSEN ONE Universe
THE CHOSEN ONE Universe is one of my favorite series I’ve ever read, and the newest novel, SCOUT continues that same stellar quality. The author knows how to write action, romance, and extremely witty banter. Her humor really shines through in this book. (You’ll never be able to listen to Bohemian Rhapsody the same way again.) Both Coal and Scout (aka Jack Jerrick) have always been somewhat background characters, and in this novel we finally get to know them VERY well. It seems they’ve been pining for each other for a while and when Scout needs some comfort, Coal and Scout finally give in to their feelings for one another. The emotional dam breaks, and the two succumb to their attraction (over and over and over again), resulting in a mating. The big bad is still lurking out there, and as Logan’s pack makes another attempt to hunt him down, they finally hit pay dirt. Unfortunately the Big Bad is always a few steps ahead and without spoiling anything, chaos ensues. Old friends are visited and new alliances are made. This eventually leads to some down time for Coal and Scout/Jack with some of the most loving and romantic scenes in the series. The hurt/comfort trope is used to GREAT effect here. I really grew to love these guys in their quiet moments together. Some major action and MAJOR reveals happen in the book, and I was so drawn in that I finished the book in two sittings. Bravo to Macy Blake for yet another perfect installment in THE CHOSEN ONE Universe. Advance Reader Copy review #CavemanCoal #ScoutGetsANewToy #EverythingIsBetterWithAHotTub

Wow, what a rollercoaster of a book! But in a good way. I’m hoping to keep this review of Scout by Macy Blake spoiler free for everyone.

Macy Blake’s Chosen Universe continues with the fourth book in the Chosen Champions series – Scout. To have a good understanding of the universe and characters, you do need to read all the preceding books and series, but the time spent in Macy’s world is absolutely worth it and one I return to often, personally.

The tension between Coal and Jack Jerrick (also named Scout) has been building through the series and we finally see the relationship develop further here and to my surprise, any new partner struggles and angst was not the main plot point of the book. There’s plenty of humorous moments such as when we see the return of “cave dragon” early during an epic search for bacon and fruit and while both of Scout’s packs begin to intertwine more in his life.

As the story continues, Scout, Coal and their friends find that they are several steps behind the evil presence backing the foes faced in previous books and this places a member of the pack in dire straits. The pack must call upon old friends and allies to save their teammate.

I’ll admit outright that this is the first book of the author’s where I’ve been outright crying more than once. It was a very different feel than Aleron and Logan where much of the emphasis of both was the build up to a relationship. There are fantastic humorous highs (the bacon moment and animal crossing), but also gut-wrenching moments where you find yourself crying over the characters you’re so invested in. Absolutely enjoyable, but emotional and not the book you want to start just before bed thinking you can put it down and pick it up again later.

It was wonderful to see the return of a few characters we haven’t heard from in a while from other books and series and I feel like this book helped fill out their personality a bit more. Some discoveries they make about their enemy entirely caught me off guard and while this book is its own happy ending for all, I’m now even more eager for other books to be released and to continue the storyline Macy has left for us.

If you’ve stumbled across this review and book without reading any Chosen Universe book by Macy Blake, I can’t encourage you enough to start the series. They’re my go to comfort books and I reread them often. I can absolutely see Scout as one of the ones I return to repeatedly.

I did receive an advance readers copy for this review, but because these are some of my favorites – I have also purchased my own copy.

Neither thought they could have each other till one day they could. Scout and Coal have tip-toed around each other for a while the packs, family and friends watched from the sidelines. No one thought they would get it together, till finally they did, now to live happily ever after. “NOT!”

Their unknown nemesis is back, and he manages to derail their mating. He took the most loved and baby of the bunch. And what he doesn’t know is that he is not the weakest. Honestly, what kind of an idiot kidnaps a dragon’s mate? Well, their nemesis, of course.

Getting back to their mating is what they want. But first while healing they get a frantic phone call from family, only to return home to find the pack on a fool’s rescue mission which only due to Scouts quick thinking does he get to the real target in time. Scout not only finds out more about what he is, saves his mate and the true intended target and get some major payback and inflict some damage of his own at the same time. All while hurt and getting hurt some more. Hmmm, underestimating Scout proves to be fatal for one and hurtful for the other.

I laughed so hard, and I screamed – so, so Good!! That ending Though! O.M.G. I NEVER saw that one coming!

I received a free copy of this book I and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Ok, I'll just say it, this was not what I expected. First, let me give my credentials by saying I've read this series in order, beginning to end, 4 times, in both ebook and audio for the ones that have it. I was there when Jack was rescued with the others and I'm still feeling weird that he's so grown now.

    Slight spoilers

In here we have Scout, aka Jack, brother of Henry and one of the kids rescued years ago and Coal, dragon and pack mate from Scout's second pack. We start off with extreme horniness and a kiss, and then boom they are mated? Like no talking or anything, even though apparently Coal was avoiding Jack as dragons have multiple mates and he didn't think Jack would be ok with that. While this was happening they were also still looking for the big bad from the previous books.

I kind of felt lost for the first 20% or so as it seemed like we missed chunks of backstory of Jack and Coal. We were supposed to know that they were going to just hook up? These two mate with a lot of biting, and Coal does a really lame imitation of Draco taking care of his mate, then they go on an assignment that goes bad. Its after this that the story actually gets good. Other things happen and we find out who Oracle is.

But not once was Jack's history brought up. It was when Henry was falling in love, I hope it is when Ollie's and Ben's stories are released.

And where was Dakota? His brother was almost killed and none of the chosen ones mates show up? Cosmo was nothing like he was in any other story, including his. Taj was a totally different person as well.

Ollie is up next and I'm hoping its going to be good, but I'm not going to lie, I really want Ben's HEA.

Also, I did delete and re download this title but it still had the wrong name used for the Oracle. That really took you out of the ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to the ever-expanding Chosen Universe!

The latest instalment in the Chosen Universe series by Macy Blake brings to the fore one of the Jerrick children, Jack or as Logan and the rest of the team calls him, Scout. There's sexual tension, a gripping narrative, and one races all too soon to the end with its thrilling conclusion, although there is no fear of a wrap up here - more is promised as is obvious from the story! This may be one of my favourites in the series thus far, and I have no doubt it will delight all fans.

Well. I did not expect to love this book as much as I did, but at this point I shouldn’t be surprised. Macy Blake is one of my all time favorite authors and I simply adore every single character (well, not the bad guys obviously), so seeing how Scout, who we met first as a child, gets his own happy ending with his stubborn dragon kind of melted my heart. Although he went through some terrible things in this book, it was worth it and I have no doubt in my mind he would gladly go through everything again if it meant ending up with Coal. And we are finally getting some answers! Even though I’m pretty sure the worst villain name goes to this character…I mean, seriously? I don’t want to spoil anything, but you’ll understand once the name is revealed.

Also—the next book is going to be Ben’s!??? I’ve been secretly wishing for him to get his own book and it is finally happening. Sorry Ollie, but I’m way more exited for Ben (okay, I am exited for his book too, I mean it’s going to be chaotic in all the best ways, but it’s Ben).

Wow, I'd been waiting for Scout's story for a while and there'd already been indications as to who his potential mate would be.
In this one, Logan and his team with the help of the mysterious Oracle, are hunting for the big bad - see previous books - on the nightclub circuit.
Taj and Scout, undercover, finally get a hit at one of the clubs, and the mission is on.
At the same time, after another dangerous mission involving wolf shifters, Coal and Scout relent and finally give in to the sizzling chemistry between them.
At the nightclub, danger comes quick and fast and it will take the whole pack to save their missing team mate.
    This was so so good.
The hurt/comfort game is fully on with Caveman Coal desperate to protect and care for his new mate.
The early Caveman Coal scenes are hilarious as are the drugged up on pain killers scenes.
I loved seeing more of Bailey as well as the rest of the team.
And best of all are the multiple story strands weaved together and ending in some great hooks for the next book in the series; Oracle.
Yes, we finally know who it is and who their potential mate is.
And that person is one I've been dying to see the story of.
The action and fight scenes are as always, on point, the sexy scenes are hotter than a dragon's fire and the emotional scenes are adorable.
In fact Scout is basically adorable and so is his story.
    I loved this book.
And I cannot wait for more!

Scout wants to be the warrior that he training to be and will jump in to protect all in the pack. Coal is a loner and has a hard time being part of the pack. When Scout gets hurt on a mission, Coal goes crazy and knows they belong together. Could not put the book down. An awesome read.

Action, adversity, romance, and 2 kick-ass heroes 😁 I've been really looking forward to this book, and once again Macy did not disappoint!
Scout and Coal are awesome main characters who really go through some tough times fighting the bad guy.
I would definitely recommend reading the books in the series if you haven't already, all the characters from those books appear in this, as do some from Macy's other series in the Chosen Universe. They're all a great read, I recommend them 😀
