Romance is not on Daryl’s list of things to do. As a matter of fact, the less people he’s forced to deal with, the better. Social interaction is overrated anyway, right? Too bad he can’t get the hot cop from his weekend softball league out of his dirty little fantasies.

Apparently, opposites really do attract, and after a bumpy start it seems as if the road to love is paved with sunshine and rainbows. Or is it?

A tragic fire, Daryl’s emotional fortress, and a whole lot of danger conspire to keep them apart, but Zach won’t give up without a fight. But first, he has to survive the threat of death staring him down…

    This was a pretty good read. Daryl Richards is a Fire Marshal who is grumpy and cautious about risking his heart again. Zach Lawrence is a cop whose friend recommended he date cranky Daryl which he cannot imagine being fun. Daryl was hurt by a former lover and he closed his heart off to love. That first meeting doesn’t go well, but when Zach is hurt on the job, Daryl can’t stay away from him. Zach learns that Daryl uses hurtful words to keep people at arms length. This was a pretty good read. I have read this author before. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

    Daryl has been burned by an ex that he was in love with. His broken heart has lead him to swear off other men, but to also be a very grumpy man. Zach is coaxed into talking to Daryl by a few friends. That first meeting doesn’t go well, but when Zach is hurt on the job, Daryl can’t stay away from him. Zach learns quickly that Daryl uses hurtful words to protect himself and that Daryl also needs to find his self confidence again.

    This story is very sweet and sweaty at the same time. The characters were amazing. Zach’s optimism is something I wish I had. This is just really such an amazing story.

    The pacing is good, no grammar issues, the characters are likeable and it has an catchy opening so I wish I could rate this higher. But the excess of drama thrown into the last quarter of the story almost brought the rating down even further. I knew it was the kind of story that would throw in some contrivance to disrupt all the good going on. I was sure it would be some kind of return of Rory, the evil ex reappears trope that I hate. Instead I'm left wishing it had been that. The issue that nearly breaks Zach and Daryl up is so much dumber than that and could have easily been resolved with conversation, but Daryl overreacts to an annoying degree. His seeing Zach on duty should have at least gotten through his thick skull that he may have read the situation wrong, but he wants to wallow in self-inflicted misery. The second fire was just unnecessary to the story and just felt wrong in how similar it was to real events while just glossing over the tragedy in a race to finish the story. But it managed to throw in one more stupid, pointless, supposed to be "action" bit of drama to try and ruin it all for me. A lot of nothing is crammed into this ending and I hate that with a passion. It was a page turner, though. 75% of the story I kept turning pages because I was enjoying it and that last 25% I was flipping through faster to be done with it. The guys get a happy ending, though, so I'll call this a 2.5 star generously rounded to 3.

    This is everything I have come to expect from Morticia. It is naughty, nice, a little bit kinky and very hot. You will fall in love along with Darryl and Zach. Take one grumpy fire marshal, one sunny cop, add in well- meaning friends and a lot of danger and you have one hellava book. Darryl & Zach must overcome insecurity, self- doubt, and misunderstandings. But their attraction is as immediately intense as it is inevitable. Not even fires and a gunshot can hold back their love. You will love this book!

    Not one of my favorites from this author I have to admit. It's an older story republished and I think it shows. Most of what I've read so far have been newer pieces. The pacing was very quick - sometimes a little too quick that it felt like there was no time to really connect with the character or get a good sense of emotion from them. I think there was a coffee drinking scene that was more in depth descriptions than the resolution of an argument between them 😂. It was a quick, enjoyable read, but not enough chance to really get emotionally invested with how quick things flew by. Won't stop me reading more though!
