4.5 out of 5 stars 778 ratings

A movie star in a lab? Yep, sparks are flying.

One dare, a room full of skeletons, and Gabe Duke—the movie star whose smile could stop traffic. Ray’s life was on autopilot until it took a sharp turn into what-the-hell-is-happening territory. What starts as a random encounter between a science dropout and a Hollywood heartthrob spirals into a slow-burn connection neither of them saw coming.

Gabe might be used to cameras and red carpets, but real emotions? That’s a different ball game. Ray, meanwhile, just wants to get through his next lab assignment. Slowly, the lines between friendship and something more start to blur.

From Halloween dares to Christmas cookies and movie premieres,
Change My Ticket is a witty, feel-good MM romance. Packed with smart banter and the power of friendship, it shows that sometimes, love shows up when you least expect it.

  • The writing is evocative and really well done, the MCs are both so sweet and appealing and relatable. You really get into their heads and see the insecurities and how these have undermined their relationships, and they're just so sweet together - definite heart eyes!!If you’re looking for a read that will warm your heart with wonderfully witty dialogue you can’t go wrong with this story." —K, GR review

  • "This one is slow, slow burn, but that's something I love. Ray has reasons for his lack of self-confidence, Gabe has reasons for his fears of coming out. Sometimes I wanted to give them a shove (especially Ray) but they both captured my heart. The supporting characters are great, especially the trio of best friends. I find this author very comfortable reading, and have been on a bit of a binge, and this one hit the spot." —Kaje, GR review

Author of witty M/M romances with snark and heart. Chaos monkey. Coffee snob. Cheese is her love language.

Zarah’s partial to a slow burn that unfolds with maddening patience and an extremely satisfying payoff. She loves opposites that attract and has never met a celebrity romance trope she didn’t like—and frankly, at this point, might need professional help. Expect sharp banter, inconvenient feelings, and guaranteed happy endings.

This is another wonderful book from Zarah Detand for readers who are willing to take a journey with nuanced characters slow but very romantic rife to HEA. The dialogue is witty and the writing is excellent. Do not read this book if what you want is writhing, sweat soak bodies with huge dicks that shoot buckets. That s not this author’s mission. Instead she offers so much more in terms of plot, character and heady romance. Her books are never boring and they leave huge smiles on your face.

This was an emotional slow burn of a book. Ray is still going through intense grief of the loss of his father and feeling he should have been able to prevent his father's death. Gabe is a closeted actor who's family has disowned him, along with feeling that he doesn't deserve his success.
Ray and Gabe meet in a situation where Ray doesn't know who Gabe is. Gabe asks to talk to Ray to help him understand lab and the workings of science while he is filming a movie about Watson and Crick. They develop a friendship. This friendship is put to the test when Gabe's family outs him an a national newspaper. Gabe wants to have a relationship with Ray but Ray is afraid. Ray and Gabe both need the time apart to heal and come to terms they both deserve good things in their life's; including each other.

Tropes: slow burn, not recognizing a celebrity, grief.

I didn't know if I would like this story based on the blurb, but I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed the characters getting to know each other and the supporting friends and family pushing them together. It's a nice escape to dream of being surrounded by this kind of support, so much love in the face of the pain of rejection and grief. I hope Ms. Detand will continue to write.

I really enjoy her books with their slow burn romance and fun characters and this one is no different - The characters Ray and Gabe are totally from different worlds, a regular guy meets Hollywood star yet Zarah quickly shows us they are not so very different . She gives us that sense of real people with all the insecurities and worries that constantly run our minds as we go through life . This really is more realistic to real life . It starts off as a tentative friendship and we get to see both characters wants, insecurities and fears . Ray dreams of a prince but is sure he is not worthy of one and then when he finds one he is so afraid of losing him he seems to do everything he can to wreck the relationship. Gabe despite his growing fame as an actor is really just a nice lonely guy doing a job he loves but due to his history has little or no confidence in himself. I loved the close friends both Gabe and Ray have. They are a key ingredient to unveiling the story and also bringing out the personalities of the guys There are intimate times of course but this is in my mind what a romance novel should be rather than porn dressed up to be a romance - not that I have anything against porn but there is nothing better than a good romance

The beginning had potential. A movie star and a regular person meet and become friends with the eventual possibility of more. Unfortunately the more took way too long to come into existence and by the time it came I was over it.

I wanted to like the book but Ray, one of the main MCs, made it difficult. Gabe is a movie star who is in the closet. Initially Ray doesn't know Gabe is gay. They spend time together and get to know each other. There are sparks but Ray never allows himself to believe someone like Gabe could want him. Something major happens that causes the two of them to become closer but once again Ray's insecurities rip their chances apart.

I don't mind slow burns but give me some tension. Give me something to root for while the burn is catching. These two spend most of the book in a tentative friendship. It took until the 79% mark before something between these two finally happened. But by the 85% mark it all blows up and it isn't until the 97% it was worked out. There just wasn't enough time with them actually being together for me to believe they would work as a couple.

I did like parts of the book. The side characters were all really good people in the MCs lives. Ray's family was kind and his mother was amazing. His best friends were good for him and Gabe's best friend Charlie was a stand up guy. Everything was there for the making of a great read but the romance just couldn't catch fire.

I liked the idea but not the execution.

I picked it up because the cover was better than most. I’m so happy I did. I want to know more now and hope we see these characters again soon. Detand is a master at writing build up and dialogue. You fall in love with each of the main characters and seriously crave their HEA.

I have loved every book l have read by this author.
This a lovely story with two great MC's and their support cast of friends. They meet and connect then Ray is full of doubt about himself attracting a stat, much angst for both of them. They get their second chance and make the most of it, overcoming perceived obstacles because the connection is so strong.
A very good read. I like Zarah's writing style. The MC's are both obviously intelligent too.

This author does not disappoint. This was not my favorite of hers (mostly due to the set up, I don't usually go for movie stars romances), but it's still a very sweet, very entertaining story 😊

This is my first Zarah Detand book and I Loved It.

I bought the book as I liked the story-line, and the reviews didn’t hurt either. But as I started reading, I feared that it was going to read like a light, fluffy ‘teenage’ style book with not much substance.

How wrong I was. It is definitely not ‘teenage’ in style, but adult with a depth that kept me hooked. I am officially a fan of Zarah Detand and will be looking to buy more of her books.

Detand writes with humour, mostly found in the banter between the main characters and their friends and she injects love and closeness into that banter, which made me feel amused and emotionally happy for Ray and Gabe, the two MC’s., that they both had people that understood them and would have their backs. She also writes a good, strong story; her characters are ‘real’ and fleshed out, and importantly, believable and likeable.

It is a deliciously slow-burn book which is all the better because it gives us time to get to know the characters and to understand what is happening to them and also to see what the consequences might be, especially for Gabe, if they let their feelings grow. It doesn’t help that they both carry some baggage which is revealed to the reader as both Ray and Gabe form a bond.

I loved this story and Ray and Gabe, and I shall hold them dear.
