War: M/M Paranormal Romance (The Four Horsemen Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 332 ratings

The second Horseman, an Archangel, and a forbidden love. Everything hangs in the balance.

As second Horseman of the Apocalypse, it is War’s duty to fan the flames of destruction started by Conquest. But the answer to a profound mystery about himself—proof of a connection that goes to the very heart of who he is—changes everything.

Uriel, the Archangel of Diligence, must defeat War and stop the Apocalypse from coming to fruition. He won’t allow anything to throw him off course, especially not the Horseman he’d always thought was his opposite—and his enemy—in every way.

Thrown together by circumstances beyond their control, War and Uriel are forced to confront a past they’d both been running from. Faced with challenges, betrayal, and the war brewing between Heaven and Hell, they have a choice to make. Fire and ice were never meant to fall in love, but it isn’t only the bond between them at stake: their very existence—and the existence of the world—hangs in the balance.

War is the second book in the Four Horsemen series. This book is not a standalone and must be read in order.

Content Warnings: Religious themes, extreme violence, gore, and others.

Arachnophobia warning: There is also a dog-sized pet spider named Paul who just wants to be loved.

War
is an approximately 90,000-word paranormal, enemies-to-lovers, MM romance filled with snark and morally questionable characters. It ends with a HFN and a mild plot cliffhanger.

This is what all enemies to lovers should strive to be! Uri and War have that right amount of hate and yet still feel deeply for one and another. They have that perfect bantering dynamic that you never really know if they will love each other for all eternity or will end up killing the other. The passion is that strong and entrancing. You know they are everything to the other. What a great read! Cannot wait to see what the next Horsemen installment will bring to us.

Once I started I could not put this down. True enemies to lovers and I couldn’t have asked for a better pair. Not to mention a mare who gets a hellhound as a pet. Definitely a great story and I can’t wait to see what happens next

Our enemies to lovers where they stay just a little bit enemies even when they find their way to each other.

I loved the petty back and forth between War and Uri, the denial of lust from Uri until he is pushed just that bit too far, the longing and hurt that has lasted several millennia, until fire and ice finally collides.

Uri's backstory was heart breaking and his reaction to Raz in the first book makes less sense since they had so much in common, but in this he finally thinks for himself.

The angles holds a big creepiness factor and I love how things are written.

It's been a good while since I read the first book and this one brought back everything I remember loving about the series.

War and Uriel are enemies with a long past. But not everything is what it seems. Thrown together in an unknown place forces them to work together (their bickering had me cracking up) and the circumstances opens War's eyes and willing to admit what he's been fearing. Uriel's heart has been under ice for centuries but War's fire has a way of getting in. And their enemy status begins to shift. And boy do things heat up 🔥🔥
But there's also the unknown and known enemies to fight, the twist and turns, suspense, and action that had me glued to this book. Now I'm off to read the next one cause I need some answers!!

I loved Conquest (the book and the character), but War was just okay. War expressing how much he enjoyed antagonizing Uriel got repetitive and his emotional 180 wasn’t believable. I found myself disliking War and wishing Uriel had never met him (Uriel was sweet and likable prior to their encounter in purgatory). The glimpses of Uriel when he was mortal were well done and I enjoyed all of the side characters. The author does a fantastic job depicting all of the animals’ personalities (they get a new member of the family and she’s adorable).

Once again I'm in love with this look. The Horsemen have always held a fascination with me but the author manages to put a whole new spin on things and Keep it interesting. This book is definitely a page turner, I couldn't put it down. War and Uriel have such Chemistry, it's amazing to watch/read. Also the bond the horsemen themselves share is quite intriguing.
I can't wait until the next book comes out!

There is too much repetition with the inner monologue. The relationship between War and Uriel was like so many books where the man is conceited and gets off on being rejected and the woman is supposedly so strong mentally and in this case physically as well, spews hate for everything about him but still succumbs because it’s true love. The beginnings of both books were hard for me to get through for the overall theme which I really do like, very different take on the Horsemen/Heaven.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love all the characters!

Spoilers!!! This book follows directly the events of “Conquest”. This time, War and Uriel are trapped together in a dangerous and unknown dimension while having to deal with their feelings.
I already liked War from the first book, he is so funny and I was glad to learn more about him, he’s more complex than we may think first: even though he loves to fight, he’s a great strategist and a competent leader. We also learn to like prickly and ruthless Uriel, the Archangel of Diligence.
I loved the dialogues and banters between these two. Unlike Con and Raz, War and Uri already formed a life-long link since Uriel’s mortal life. They obviously take some time to understand that they are meant to be together and to accept it but they become sappy fools and it’s cute. I enjoyed the pacing given by Ambrose’s flashbacks (the flashbacks themselves made me sorrowful); it was difficult for me to put the book away when I had to.

It is a good idea that there isn’t a pause between the events in each book, it makes the style fluent and coherent. I always love groups who stay together in book series as a team or a family so, I was happy to find the other Horsemen again and to learn more about Famine and Lucifer’s past as the Archangel Samael.
I guess all the Immortal Beings need to accept that there is love for them all.

I’m a little frustrated that we didn’t get more details about how the humans reacted to Demons and the Apocalypse in this book.
Sometimes it was like humans had all been decimated already and that they no longer existed or that we looked from afar while they all died painfully during the Apocalypse. Even though none of the Immortals cares about what will happen to them (which makes sense because most of humans will die in the Horsemen’s Apocalypse anyway), thinking about the families, the children… and not having a single clue about how many people survived, it was a strange feeling.

Now, I absolutely need to talk about Atlas: finally, the Horsemen are working with the US Army to stop Lucy’s plans… And then, continue their work. Atlas is the only human we’ve seen interacting the Immortals. He’s absolutely amazing. For me, this guy is carrying humanity on his shoulders. Which is ironic, because his name is Atlas like the Titan in the Greek mythology who is carrying the heavenly vault on his shoulders. He’s so brave and strong-willed, hardworking…
I also felt so sad for Raphael and Michael. I hope they find their paths to each other again. I hope we’ll learn more information about the Dead Dimension in the next book.
After Paul, Uri and War are adopting Alba, so cute! I absolutely recommend “War” and can’t wait to read “Famine”!
