Laying Pipe (Blue Collar Hearts Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,590 ratings

Having a crush on his dad’s best friend for years hasn’t done wonders for Lukas’s love life. No one ever quite measured up to the kindhearted man who always seemed to be there when Lukas needed him.

He knows nothing can ever come of it since John’s straight. Like, used to be married to a woman, only ever dated women,
super blue collar kind of straight.

Not to mention his dad would lose his mind...

But it's totally fine. Lukas is sure he’ll get over his feelings eventually.

Even if John is suddenly
looking at him differently.

Almost like… Almost like he wants to kiss Lukas?

That can’t be right.

Laying Pipe is the first in bestselling author Kiki Clark’s Blue Collar Hearts series. It features a 42-year-old plumber who’s good with his hands… and pipes, a 26-year-old vet tech with the softest of hearts, a late-blooming bisexual, super low angst, and butt-touching as a love language.

This is yet another one of my somewhat frequent rereads. It is a deliciously low angst dad’s best friend romance, with two very lovable characters. It’s not a long book, but the characters have great chemistry, the plot is engaging, and the spice is hot (I don’t always care for dirty talk, but it’s fantastic in this).

Lukas has been in love with his parents’ friend for years, and he didn’t think there was any chance at all of something happening between them. It was a very good way to make me connect with his character quickly, especially when he thought about how he would eventually have to watch John fall in love with someone else. It still makes me tear up.

My favorite part of this book is how the younger MC loves to care of the other MC. Giving him massages, making beautiful meals for them, etc. I’ve read so many books with some sort of D/s dynamic or Daddy kink, where 9/10 times it’s the other way around. In this one, they very much take care or each other, but in different ways.

Highly recommend this one if you’re into the tropes at all.

With the age-difference trope tied to a late bi-awakening, Clark bring the father's best friend further into the family. With his discovery, the heated sheets blaze on the pages. Written with good character development despite the perceived need for secrecy, it is a great read.

Gosh, I loved this book so much.

I've been wanting to read this book since I first saw it popping up on my Goodreads feed. Call me easy, but the cover is so gorgeous, it spoke to me right away. I clicked want to read before even knowing what it was about. Finding out it was a dads best friend story, I was sold. I love a great age gap and this one was really well done. Really, really well done. Even the bisexual awakening was well done. And I'm usually trying to stay clear of the bisexual awakening/GFY trope. Seriously, the first sex scene might have been the hottest first time gay sex scene, I have ever read, *slowly fanning myself*.

This was a sweet and tender love story with very little angst. Lukas is in his late twenties and have had a crush on his fathers best friend John for years. Resigned to date lookalikes he can't imagine John ever having the same feelings for him, after all John is straight. Or is he? I loved following Lukas and John on this journey. The only thing, and it's seriously my only complaint is that Lucas had a tendency to run away instead of facing his fears. It didn't sit right with his character.

I also want to give the author kudos for the way she handled Lucas having a rescue dog. The way Lukas and John behaved towards her was 100% right. I often find authors lacking in the way they write about having a dog, not knowing how to handle them properly. So this author doing everything right, well it warmed my heart.

Crazy little side note; what's the thing with the name Lukas? It's my third book in less than a week with an MC named Lukas.

This title is a contemporary standalone MM romance with May-December and dad's best friend with a HEA.

The blurb was interesting enough to 1 click. It simply lacked the chemistry that it could have had. It simply failed to light any fires. It was a bit dull. The fault wasn't with the plit of the story which really had nothing odd wrong with it but the writing and style simple failed to do it for me. It didn't click. Just not a style for my taste.

Given a book with a title like “ Laying Pipe” I’d expected a light hearted book with lots of sex. You know one of those books that’s basically sex scenes linked together w/ hardly any plot or real story. That’s not want I got and I was both surprised and delighted. Yes, there is heat. Like incendiary level 6 on a 1-5 heat scale. So much heat, I may be fanning myself for days!!!
But it also as a real well developed story. It has emotion, and depth I wasn’t expecting. The characters are well drawn. The author does a great job of using dialogue and description to make you feel you would like to know these guys IRL. The story takes a premise that could be shallow and silly and instead creates a real love story b/w two guys that are in different places in life but still really belong together. The ending is of course, joyful, a little sappy and sweet. With a HEA that leaves you with a smile. Just like any sweet romance should. It is a story worth reading , enjoying and remembering. It was well worth my time and something I will recommend to others in the future.

    💕 Laying Pipe // Kiki Clark // Blue Collar Hearts 2 💕

✨This series is going to be a comfort listen for me, I just know it! This is a perfect go to for a sweet, steamy and light read. ✨

💕 Sweet and feisty Lukas has been pining for his dad’s bear of a best friend, John for forever. When Lukas pipes burts, plumber John comes to lay some more and sweetness and steam ensue! This story is giving all the opposites attract, bear meets pretty boy you could want. Throw in some awaking goodness and genuine sweet connection, and Laying Pipe is a story you can’t miss. 💕

🍑 When it comes to spice, there is plenty and it is hot as hell. Let’s just say our burly bear is definitely a 🍑 man, and sweet needy Lukas is happy to oblige 🥵. 🍑

What a fun read about Lukas who has a crush on his dad’s best friend John. When John comes to Lukas rescue when a pipe bursts, things change between them and a slow burn starts. I enjoyed watching them start a relationship together and loved how John was such a great guy. Lukas insecurities came up from time to time and his parents finding out was a bit stressful but loved how it all worked out in the end. Cute couple.

Age gap, dad’s best friend and bisexual awakening… what’s not to love?
I absolutely adored John. He’s 42, divorced and has been straight all his life (or, well, he may have checked out a guy or two in his time, but that doesn’t count, does it?), except when he starts to notice how Lukas’s body looks like, he’s much more worried about what his best friend (Lukas’s father) may think than that he’s actually checking out a guy. And sure, he may try to resist his attraction at first, but resistance is futile, and soon the two men are steaming up every room they find themselves in, with encounters hot enough to be scorching!

This was my first Kiki book, and I found it through another M/M author's group. I went into it not knowing anything about her writing or style. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. The characters are funny and engaging, and so endearing you find yourself rooting for them. They felt just like two men you might already know. I especially enjoyed watching John's journey of self-discovery and finding his person.

It's a quick, low-drama book, with plenty of laugh out loud moments that will keep you smiling throughout. Would definitely recommend!

This is my first story from this author and I wasn't expecting a lot. I was surprised to see how much I loved the MCs and their story. The characters felt so real, there was no added frills or unnecessary angst. They communicated well, didn't hesitate to open up their hearts and be mature about it. Loved the May/Dec angle, its handled pretty well.

Real good writing. Recommended May/Dec romance.
