Taming Savage (Tales Reimagined Book 1) Kindle Edition
After the death of our parents, I was taken in by my brother, who has been taking care of me more out of obligation than love. When he doesn’t come home from a job—if burglary can be considered a job—I discover he’s been taken by a beast of a man with soulless eyes. Even with his scars he’s hot as hell, but his cold eyes chill me to the bone. My brother is the only family I have, so I do the only thing I can to make sure my brother is free: I offer myself to the beast for a year instead. When I find out who he is, I fear I may be in over my head.
Savage
The first word that comes to mind when I see Abel? Beautiful. The second? Untouchable. He’s much too beautiful for the likes of me, with my shifting moods and damaged body. What if I spend this year trying to win him over–mind, body, heart, and soul? It would be possible if my enemies weren’t a constant threat. If I were a regular guy, I could have someone like Abel. I have these scars because of who I am; these scars that scare everyone away. Could a beauty like Abel ever see beyond the beast to the man underneath?
Taming Savage is Beauty and the Beast reimagined as a dark and steamy gay romance with heart-pounding action, forced proximity, age gap, found family, a naughty virgin, first times, kink exploration, a mild D/s dynamic, and features a cold, damaged crime boss and the snarky beauty who will finally tame his beast.
Trigger warning: Discussion of past parental and animal death that happens off page, on-page torture and violence, on-page murder, sale of drugs and weapons and dubcon. Explicit sexual content not suitable for anyone under the age of eighteen. If those are triggers for you, please do not read.

This is my honest review for the ARC I received.
Ok. Let’s start with the fact that Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite stories ever! So when I found out that this book was a reimagined version of that, I simply had to read it. And RS McKenzie (AKA Rosyln Faulk) delivers!
Side note: one of the things I love about RS McKenzie is that she always features BIPOC characters in her novels. This novel continues that trend with a biracial protagonist and I couldn’t be happier! (Read: I’m biracial).
Abel is sassy and snarky, but super sweet and compassionate. He’s kind to everyone he meets, excluding Savage at first, because well, Savage is rude. Abel stands up for himself and others. He’s a stellar person to have in your corner. Savage (real name Joseph) is a beast because he has to be. It’s part of being a made man. You can’t really be soft and be the head of a crime family. Savage has a small group he considers to be his family. Everyone else is replaceable.
Abel’s parents are dead. Abel’s brother Cris has taken care of him since he was eight years old, and never lets him forget it. Cris is a thief. It’s the catalyst that sets things in motion for Abel and Savage to meet. Abel offers himself up for a year (with a twist because this is a romance novel after all) to trade places with his brother. Savage and Abel work well together physically. It’s the emotional and conversational stuff that they need to work on, but they get there.
Savage has scars from a precious accident. I appreciated that Abel never once judged Savage for his scars. He’s more focused on how Savage treats people than on how he looks. Savage has been burned in the past by a lover saying rude things about his scars, and it takes him a while to trust and believe that Abel is really attracted to him.
One thing I absolutely loved about this reimagined tale is the way McKenzie tackles the magic mirror. She turns it into a mirror that’s a treasured item of Abel’s (it’s something from his mom) and wields it as a way for Savage to say daily affirmations. Abel puts him up to it. That’s right, the beast in this tale says daily affirmations! I know some people may want their mafia man more viscous, but I couldn’t be more here for that if I tried.
There’s some good dialogue in this book. Quin, Michael, Janet, Adam, and Damon do a nice job rounding out the cast of characters. I’d even add Paddy into that mix. Puppy Pogo is a delight too.
This book has everything! Action, age gap romance, size difference, savagery, gentleness, forced proximity, first times, kink, heart, heat, and some humor as well. It’s a captivating read. I loved the natural progression of the MCs emotional attachment to one another. Their chemistry is ridiculously hot. The trust they develop between one another is well paced. I like how the MCs were able to figure out how to avoid Savage’s enemies and be together. The epilogue was great. It really is an engaging read. You should definitely check it out! I’m looking forward to Quin’s story next!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI read several reviews AFTER I read the book. I understand why people are don’t think it’s a great Beauty and The Beast retelling because Savage is scarred. If you go by looks, it’s not a great comparison HOWEVER, I thought that Savage’s mannerisms and personality were very similar to the Beast’s. There were many similarities to the story as well.
Abel acted a bit too much like Belle when he trades a year of his life for his brother’s life. Except for Able falling for Savage and staying with him voluntarily, and Able needing rescuing from attackers, most of the story is about Savage and his mob business and his decision to try to get out of the business because he’s grown tired of it.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSavage is the head of the Benavelli crime family and Abel is the beauty that tames him. Abel's brother decides to break into Savage's home to rob him and gets caught. Abel sacrifices himself for one year in order to save his brother. As Abel gets used to his new home, he services Savage sexually but also finds him attractive despite his scars and attitude. Savage is caught off guard when Abel struts around in heels and makeup and lacy panties and starts to catch feelings for Abel. When Abel's brother betrays him, all h*ll breaks loose and Savage decides he wants out for good. They hatch a plan and along with Quin and Michael, they manage to escape and Savage and Abel get their HEA. I started with book 2 first and then decided I would go back to the beginning. Now I can't wait for Michael to get his HEA.

What could be better than a Beauty and the Beast Retelling? How about an MM version? Even better? What if our beast is a ruthless, scarred Mafia boss! Need more? How about our Belle is a fiesty femme boy willing to trade ALL (😏) of himself to save his brother? Need a little bit more? I’ll throw in some shmink, some lace panties, a dash of size difference, and a bit of hurt comfort ❤️🩹. 👀Convinced? 😘

- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2023Format: KindleVerified Purchase4.5/5 stars overall. 5/5 stars for spice and 4/5 for the storyline. Taming Savage by RS McKenzie is a very good dark romance book with great character development.
I grew to love every character except the villain of the story. I really didn’t like him which shows his character development was just as good even though he wasn’t present during most of the book.
It was a great story considering this is the first mafia storyline the author has written. The mafia aspect could have been a little more detailed and in-depth. The romance aspect of this book was chef’s kiss. The love story between the two MC’s was, in my opinion, written perfectly.
I enjoyed this book so much that I absolutely will read more books by this author. I look forward to the next book in this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseTaming Savage was a interesting re-imagining of Beauty and the Beast.
I enjoyed the overall story which was low angst and wasn’t the dark I was expecting when I read the blurb or even from looking at the cover.
I am curious about the next book tho.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for Beauty and the Beast with a sexy, dark twist!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI wish I could give this book 6 out of 5 stars! Beauty and the Beast is my favourite fairytale and this light mafia reimagining really knocked it out of the park. Taming Savage is RS McKenzie’s first forray into dark romance and my god she really nails it.
Savage is a dangerously violent man with a secret soft side. Greatly misunderstood, he uses his hard exterior to keep people away. He doesn’t fall in love easily, but when he does he falls hard and there’s nothing he won’t do to protect his beauty. But will his beauty be able to fall in love with the man underneath the scars that mar his body?
Sexy and dangerous, with gut wrenching violence, nail biting excitement, and scenes so hot that they’ll melt your kindle, Taming Savage will take you on a ride that you won’t want to get off of.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed the retelling
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhen Abel gave up his freedom in place of his brother, he did not expect to fall in love.
I liked this retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Abel was stubborn and sassy who enjoyed pushing Savage's buttons and he saw the man behind the scars. Savage was used to fighting to get what he wanted, head of his mafia family, he had to show he could not be intimidated and he was in constant danger from his enemies. Whilst he was confident in his public life, his scars made him vulnerable when it came to his private life.
This was a fast paced book which I read fairly quick. I loved seeing Abel wrapping Savage round his little finger. Watching that 6ft+ guy give in so quickly to his demands. The gentle moments between them when they just talked and we learn more about them.
Whilst Abel and Savage were the stars of the show I really liked Quin and Michael and as I have their stories on my kindle I am looking forward into going back into their world

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing retelling
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseTaming Savage is a rewrite of the beauty and the beast featuring able as bell. And savage as the beast. Savage is disfigured from a car accident seven years ago. Abel is traumatized from his parents dying and give himself up as his brother was kidnapped because he tried to rob Savage. Through the book it starts as a simple swap of life for life it then turns into love . The twist at the end it’s great cannot read wait to read the next book in this series called Trusting Quinn.
