Cancer Gets a BAD Rap: A Gay Young Adult Romantic Dramedy Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

Cancer changes everything, but for this eighteen-year-old, not all of those changes are bad...

Kit has it all: A fun group of friends, a solid plan for the future, and a perfect boyfriend… Or, at least, he thinks he does. When he gets a diagnosis that changes his entire life, he slowly discovers that there are more things festering under the surface than just the tumour in his knee.

Everything he thinks he knows is suddenly flipped on its head, but the most shocking part of all might be that life with cancer isn’t a drama – it’s actually a comedy.

Cancer Gets a BAD Rap is a gay romance/dark comedy inspired by one of the authors' own experiences with bone cancer. It features a trans main character and a HEA.

This book is not only about cancer but also a heartbreaking look into what a one-sided relationship can look like. kit is so blind to it while everyone else sees it. i loved the humour throughout, and the scenes with marcus are very cute. bought it in July for cancer research, so it's for a good cause too. highly recommend

Cancer Gets a BAD Rap is a gay romance with dark humor inspired by one of the authors' own experiences with bone cancer. As someone who's also went through a similar experience, it's kind of nice to have an outlet that will make you laugh instead of cry. Kit was a sweetheart who made some questionable decisions throughout the book. At some points I wanted to shake him haha I didn't really understand his connection with his partner Jonah. He never seemed to take anything seriously, even when it came to Kit's health. He frustrated me...a lot! I did love Marcus, who Kit meets during treatments. This story was well written and had some great characters. Not sure if everyone will get the humor behind some of the jokes throughout, but it was a fun story to read and made light of a dark situation. I did enjoy this and gave it 3.5 stars, but rounded up due to the bonus scene!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet romance novel about cancer

I was a bit nervous starting this one. I’m a little traumatized after ‘The Fault in our Stars’. Who wasn’t?
That was the first and last cancer-book I read until this one, because I absolutely cannot read books without a happy ending. I just can’t – life is depressing enough without crying over a book for weeks, right?
BUT I was intrigued by the quotes I saw on Instagram. It didn’t seem like your typical cancer-book and I was right (Thank God).
Of course, having cancer isn’t easy or pretty and there are scenes in this book where I did cry a little. But the humor in between and just the realness of Kit as a character more than made up for it. And hey, it has a happy ending AND a love story, so what more could you want?
I originally bought the book out of, let’s say, loyalty to @gordiansouls because they were among my first followers. But now I can honestly say I’m glad I read it and I will definitely be reading more of them – the plot and the romance and just everything was really great and I loved it!
So, all in all: 5/5 Stars because this book made me cry and laugh and think about people with cancer without dragging me down :D

I have no words for how much I enjoyed it. 🥺 Kit, a young trans man is diagnosed with cancer, and we get to be there with him through it all. ‘Like a silent vigil’ was how I described the feeling I had reading this book. We see him struggle, and find beauty in the broken. Please read this book 💜
