Iced Out (Leighton U Book 1) Kindle Edition
All's fair in hate and hockey.
My path to success never included an enemy as a teammate, especially one as infuriating as Quinton de Haas.
Clawing under my skin is his favorite pastime, only feeding the animosity between us as the years pass.
We’re as completely opposite as two people can be; the golden boy and the black sheep.
Constantly at odds or at each other’s throats.
The only thing we can agree on is hockey is our true love, and we’ll do whatever it takes to come out on top.
I never imagined that drive would lead me to do the unthinkable: falling into bed with my not-so-straight rival.
But athletes are a superstitious bunch, and when our hook-ups lead to victories, we tell ourselves we can’t stop.
Besides, it’s all for the sake of the team, right?
*Iced Out is the first in a five book standalone college sports romance series featuring two misunderstood rival teammates, pages of snarky banter, and more secret spicy times than any book should be filled with. Not suitable for anyone under 18 years of age.*

About the author

CE Ricci is a USA Today and international best-selling author who enjoys plenty of things in her free time, but writing about herself in the third person isn’t one of them. She believes home isn’t a place, but a feeling, and it’s one she gets when she’s chilling lakeside or on hiking trails with her dogs, camera in hand. She’s addicted to all things photography, plants, peaks, puppies, and paperbacks, though not necessarily in that order. Music is her love language, and traveling the country (and world) is the way she chooses to find most of her inspiration for whatever epic love story she will tell next!
CE Ricci is represented by Savannah Greenwell at Two Daisy Media.

My thoughts: I was told that I needed to read this book and my friends were right. This is a fantastic story, Quinn and Oakley grow so much over the course of the book and I love their character growth. This is almost at comfort level read for me, the slow growth of Quinn and Oakley going from enemies to sorta friends, to lovers is beautiful, the contrast between their families is almost heartbreaking, but I want so much for them to become healthy with each other. The support that they give each other is so lovely.
Highly recommend you read this if you enjoyed Heated Rivalry, The Long Game, and/or Icebreaker (the queer one not the straight one).
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIced Out delivers the kind of tension, chemistry, and slow-burn romance that makes sports romance shine. Oakley and Quinton’s dynamic is messy, raw, and deeply emotional — I couldn’t look away.
Spoilers Below:
Throughout the novel, Oakley suffers a major injury due to Quinton’s temper, quietly plays through chronic pain, gets passed over for captaincy he clearly earned, and is then put in a position where he must carry the emotional and ethical weight of a scandal he didn’t cause. He sacrifices silently — even giving up his spot with the agent without asking for anything in return.
And though Quinton does show love and guilt, his growth feels incomplete. He never directly apologizes for the harm he caused Oakley, and only begins to truly open up after discovering the extent of Oakley’s sacrifices. By the time the “I love you” arrives, it feels a little too late and too easy. Sure, Oakley suspected and didnt do anything about what Braxton did, but he didnt do anything directly the SAME way Quinton’s rage caused Oakley’s injury although I would even say that was more direct cause than what Braxton did.
This left me a lingering feeling of a sore spot for Oakley and no matter what happened in the epilogue, I feel like Oakley deserved so much more. If that had been done in a different way, this would have been an easy 5* for me.
That said, if you love intense sports romance with emotional depth, sizzling chemistry, and high-stakes angst, Iced Out delivers. Just be prepared to feel a little hollow on behalf of a character who gave everything — and deserved a little more in return.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2025Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI’m a sucker for a good MM romance—but throw in hockey, and I’m devouring it like a kid with a melting ice cream cone. Quinton and Oakley get off to a rough start—they genuinely can’t stand each other—but landing on the same team changes everything. One unexpected moment at a party sets things in motion, and from there, it heats up fast. Their chemistry is electric, and CE Ricci does an amazing job capturing both their connection and emotional growth. The tension, the banter, the enemies-to-lovers arc—it was all perfection. And the spice? Off the charts. I was hooked from start to finish and loved every second. If you’re into passionate, fast-paced romance with unforgettable characters, this one’s a must-read.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOakley Reed and Quinton de Haas have been rivals since senior year of high school. They’re rivals by team, and then personally as Quinton can’t not run his mouth. De Hass comes from big money, but he’s a bit of a Richie Rich poor little rich boy with a big temper and a huge anger management problem. Definitely on the ice, but off as well. When Reed’s team wins the high school championship, de Hass baselessly accuses him of nepotism and says that his family paid off the refs because he happens to be a legacy from “not one but two hockey legends”. And thus begins their personal rivalry and utter dislike of each other. So of course, when the story picks up 4 years later in their senior year of college, they both happen to have ended up on the same hockey team at Leighton University. De Hass, despite his temper, frequent penalties, disregard for rules and tendency towards irresponsibility has recently been named Captain. Apparently, the title should have gone to the very responsible, organized and micromanaging Reed; except that he was out of commission with a broken collarbone from a hit that was meant for de Hass. The rivalry and dislike remains strong with these two.
Reed is out, to his family, his friends and his team. De Hass is straight, or at least he thought he was; in as much thought as he gave to his manwhoring with the puck bunnies. Which is why, it does feel like his initiating and easy acceptance of sexual activity with someone of the same sex – that he also hates; seems to come out of left field. Oakley and de Hass don’t mesh. Not in person, not on the ice; their being on the same team is actually creating a hot mess. A losing hot mess. However shockingly they mesh very well in a frat house bathroom after a taunting, one upmanship argument over who gives the best oral sex. That was a definite, hold my beer, wait, what just happened moment. Then after five losses they win their first game of the season. Quinton is convinced it’s because of the hook-up and sets about convincing a very reluctant Reed to maintain the superstition with hook-ups before every game. Then it follows the typical formula, they get to know each other, compliment each other being opposites and help each other grow, there’s a relationship crisis and then commitment.
Iced Out isn’t really anything original or special; but it’s nice. There’s no real angst; there’s a touch too much sex but enough character development and relationship building. It’s a comfortable, relaxing, feel-good story. Reed is surprisingly the control freak toppy-topper but also able to switch it up with the right person.

My favorite tropes with an amazing writing, not as emotional as I thought it would be.. it didn’t make it less any addicting and entertaining !
Endearing characters with a plot that revolves exclusively around the romance (my favorite kind of plot) and secondary characters that you know you will see again and the spice was hot and detailed..
Enemies to lovers, quick read, you get easily into the story , page-turner , you fell instantly for the characters (my preference was for Quinton of course) … do you need more ?
