Curious: A Contemporary M/M Bi-Awakening Gay Romance Novel Kindle Edition
Which wouldn’t be a problem, except he’s straight.
What happened is, my longtime crush/hero got badly injured saving me from my evil ex-boyfriend. When I found out he (my hero, not my ex) didn’t have health insurance, I did the logical thing: I proposed. To my surprise, he said yes.
I knew that Camden wasn’t interested in me like that. This deal was always meant to be temporary—just until he healed and could get his own insurance and I found a place to stay, since I’m not moving back in with my ex. No feelings involved.
Except Cam kissed me at our wedding ceremony, and ever since, we can’t seem to stop kissing. He says he’s curious what sex with a man would be like, but I don’t want to be another straight guy’s experiment.
Still, Cam is so kind and beautiful, with his dark eyes and tousled curls shoved into a backward baseball cap. His patience makes me want to throw out all my carefully crafted rules. And don’t get me started on how his first instinct is to protect me …
But I’m scared if I open my heart, I’m going to get hurt. Again.
Can I risk telling Cam how I feel before our deal ends? Or should I let him go and lose the best (fake) relationship I’ve ever had?
Curious is a stand-alone contemporary M/M romance novel with a marriage of convenience and bisexual awakening. It features Shelby, a receptionist who’s never met a vision board he didn’t like; Camden, an internet-famous contractor; and a hasty wedding for medical insurance reasons. Happy ever after guaranteed.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2024I rated this book 5 stars because it was a great story and pretty original. A contractor working on a house hears a nearby argument and in checking to see if anyone needs help, finds an acquaintance beaten up by his "boyfriend" and so gets physical with said "boyfriend" while protecting his acquaintance and steps off the sidewalk wrong and fractures his ankle. He takes his beaten up friend home with him because he has nowhere to stay and since Camden, the contractor, Not having health insurance and now out of work, Shelby, the friend, offers to marry him so he can put Camden on his work insurance. They agree they'll divorce after Camden is fully healed since the marriage is for Camden's health purposes only. What ensues is Shelby falling in love with Camden but having such low self esteem that he can't believe Camden falls for him and he decides on asking for the divorce. The book is really good and deserves the 5 stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2023Curious by Leslie McAdam is a hot but sweet queer marriage of convenience story. These engaging characters each deal with their own baggage, including a bi-awakening, before they reach their happily ever after.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Shelby’s worked as the receptionist at a queer friendly law firm for years. He’s met Camden a few times since he works with Cam’s siblings, but chalks up his attraction to his fascination with yet another unavailable straight guy. When Cam injures himself standing up for Shelby vs his ex, though, he refuses to get medical attention because he doesn’t have health insurance. Shelby wants to help any way he can, so offers to marry Cam so he can take advantage of Shelby’s generous health plan. Once his ankle heals, they will go their separate ways. No feelings at all, right?
Sometimes it’s hard to design a convincing contemporary marriage of convenience. But what’s more American than getting married for the sake of health insurance? It also helps that Shelby and Cam are such likable, low angst characters. It makes perfect sense in the context of the story that Shelby would do anything for someone who’s shown him kindness.
Given their romantic histories, both Shelby and Cam understandably worry about falling too hard, too fast. This is also a low key bi-awakening story. Cam is very comfortable with his sexual identity, and almost immediately accepts his attraction to his husband. While it almost seems too easy for him, I appreciated his openness to new experiences.
While Curious is the fourth book in the IOU series, it easily works as standalone. Shelby and Can are great by themselves, but I love all the appearances by Shelby’s found family and characters featured in earlier books too.
Curious is a low angst queer romance, which was a nice palette cleanser from some of the higher stakes books I’ve been reading. I’m always a fan of a marriage of convenience, and Shelby and Cam are so darn nice that I was thrilled when they got their happily ever after.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2023Cam and Shelby had me absolutely enraptured the whole time I read this book. Read the author’s note at the beginning before reading for a little bit of background. It made the book that much more enjoyable for me. Sometimes I take things too literally and putting that aside let me free fall into their book. It was so cute watching Cam discover and explore his sexuality. I love that he never struggled or fought it. He just rolled with it and trusted himself.
Shelby. Omg. Poor sweet, Shelby. He had so much love, but he was hurt so bad he didn’t even see it. I really enjoyed watching him fall for Cam and learn to trust Cam’s love. And more importantly his worthiness of being loved. So good.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2024Awww this was sweet with all the green flags. Note the authors note in the beginning and if you can get passed that then this will be a sweet story of two men helping each other finding love with each other. It’s found family and finding that you are enough to be loved. The smexy was yum, and these two were cute.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2023I liked that the relationship was fairly straightforward. I understand both characters have issues they’re trying to overcome and I respect that.
I needed more to happen with the plot to balance out the angst of each characters mental/emotional turmoil. Shelby has had a pretty bad past so I get why he’s got issues but after awhile I was a little over it.
Which is why I think if there were a couple of things the couple had to do that would have bonded them together more it would have broken up some of the monotony of the angst.
That said it was still a good read and I’d definetely consider reading more by this author.
Heat level a solid 2/5. There was a nice build up of tension before they made love and there was not an unbelievable amount of sex going on. It fit well with the story and was done well. I personally wouldn’t have minded more kinkiness in the bedroom but really, this was a romance hurt/comfort story (from both sides ), the focus was not on being an erotic fiction novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2024Cam was so swoon worthy. I loved his protectiveness right away and his openness. It was what Shelby needed in his life and I loved reading their story and seeing their happily ever after. I honestly could not put this book down and it was a stand alone. Meeting the other guys in the series does make me want to go back and start at the beginning but not reading their books did not take away from the magic of this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2023Oh my gosh, the last few chapters absolutely gutted me. The "intervention" hit home and I had to keep blinking to clear my eyes enough to keep reading. This one was so relatable and the birthday card...I didn't realize that it wasn't typical? I got luggage for my 18th birthday and was told to use it. It's really hard to find your own self worth and to keep fighting imposter syndrome. Thanks for a beautiful and hopeful story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book
Oh I loved this book so much! All the books in the series are amazing but this one was so special to me. I loved Shelby from the start and to read his story and to see him get his HEA was wonderful. Camden and Shelby are perfect together, Camden is everything Shelby needs, he’s kind, honest, protective and smoking hot. Their love story is beautiful and has all the feels. Congratulations Leslie, I think this your best book so far.

4.0 out of 5 stars Touching Story.
First of all I have to say I loved and appreciated the authors note at the start, it was honest and amusing as she confesses to stretching reality a teensy bit in this story.
I always love a 'gay for you' tale, they tend to be so touching and loving as a man happily accepts a complete turnaround in his life. Its obvious near the start that some of the background characters come from previous stories in this series, which I haven't read, but it didn't impact my complete enjoyment of this story at all. We are plodding along in a sweet, enjoyable tale, then just as you're nearing the end and you're thinking "Oh, good, there's no upsetting angst", and BAMM!! There it is!

5.0 out of 5 stars Believable Romance
We all of us have self doubts and some of those can definitely be traced back to our childhood like Shelby’s. I found him a very easy character to identify with. I could also identify a lot of of Camden’s characteristics with a certain family member. This made this a very believable romance for me and firmly reinforced my feelings that love depends on the persons not genders involved. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found Shelby and Cam’s love to be a very sweet tale indeed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice read
Enjoyable read but perhaps the last few chapters could have had a stronger focus, Shelby was a little too needy and could have got there sooner… how many times did he need to be told! But lovely that they worked through it all.
