Stable Hand (The Braided Crop Ranch Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 161 ratings

The Braided Crop Ranch is looking for stable hands. But this is no ordinary horse ranch. They cater to men with a certain interest. An interest involving harnesses, tails, and trainers.

Managed and expertly run by registered psychologist, Adam Marsland, the Ranch is a safe place for the expression of sex positive and kink positive needs and fantasies.

Jensen Moriarty is desperate for a job. He can handle horses. In fact, he’s a pro at it. Too bad the BCR doesn’t deal with real horses. But they do have “ponies”.

If Jensen can wrap his head around what the BCR actually stands for, he may have the opportunity to expand his resumé and experience something completely unexpected in the process.

I got Stable Hand, because of the author. I wanted to read the books, and well, I am kinky. lol. The plot is basic, and yet complex. What if there was a place, completely consensual, where ponyboys were trained? (Anne Rice kind of did this with Exit to Eden, but that was more like a complete island dedicated to anything bondage, this was pure ponyboys.)
I was intrigued. Same as puppy training in the kink world. I bought to read.

It was very well written. The characters fully formed, the experiences seemed real, and put you right there in the moment, and I enjoy the reading immensely. Would I recommend it to anyone? Of course.

Do I have any kind of criticism/suggestion, since I gave it 5 stars, and I am a fellow writer too? Just one, and one only. lol. At the beginning of the story, when the main character is being introduced to this surreal situation about not being a stable hand at a reach ranch with real ponies, but he pages through a photobook of pictures of the human ponies he will be taking care of: I wanted this scene to be longer. For him to see more ponyboys, and them to be described for us, the reader. To see what he was thinking at each one. From his shock to his growing interest and acceptance at the possibility of many even working there. He did accept. I just wished it had lasted longer, for even if I was gay, going into a situation I didn't know what was what, and thinking it was something else, my curiosity would have been peaked enough to flip through many photos for the reality to finally sink in.

But that is just me. hahaha. Everyone reacts differently. And this character my have reacted faster and quicker in this situation. It would have taken me longer. but also, being a bottom only, I would have wanted to be one of the ponies, not a stable hand anyways... so, you know.. haha.

Anyways, great job. I loved this book. Looking forward to reading Pony Boy, bought at the same time. Peace

This was quite the read. It had everything you could possibly need about horse play and small spoiler, there was a small hint of puppy play. So fun and overall gave me good feelings by the end. My only complaint is that it felt like there were unnecessary details in the beginning and through out. I found myself sometimes drifting off in thoughts when the author could have maybe cut some of the fluff out. Otherwise, this was such a great read.

This book wasn't all about the ponies! I mean, it was about the men that enjoyed dressing up like horses and being dominated but there was really a lot more to it. It had a great group of characters, humor, emotion, and of course some very hot scenes. So happy I came across this title and look forward to the next in the series. I hope all the pony boys get their own story.

This is my introduction to A. E. Lister's writing and I absolutely loved their writing style, the shminky ranch and the wonderful characters.

I admit I loved Noah so much. He was so sweet, gorgeous, responsive. I could read chapters on end of the men just cuddling with him.

Jensen was a great character to choose as the narrative POV. He is the greenhorn and so we learn about the ranch through his experience. And it was fascinating. The intimate and non-intimate aspects were so well portrayed that I just could not put the book down.

Luke was a complicated man. He was cold, stubborn, bratty and overall seemed to be selfish and ready to do whatever he wanted. But as time went on, all his layers were exposed and I loved him just the same.

There is some drama after the first half but is over rather quickly so I did not really mind it.
I can't wait to return to the ranch with their stable hands, ponies, trainers and such.

... Then this is the book for you! Man, I learned a couple of things reading this book. If kink is your thing, then sit back and enjoy.

I, however, like a little character development along side the sex.

Jensen is set up by a friend for a job as a stable hand at the BCR (Braided Crop Ranch). He thinks he'll be dealing with horses, but in reality this is a major kink operation, and he'll be handling pony boys. With no other job prospects (and secretly desiring to explore m/m kink himself), he takes the job.

He quickly falls under the spell of, not one but two pony boys. Luke, a Dom that likes to be forced into submission, and Noah, a beautiful, young man who harbors a deep, tender soul. Of the three, Luke (also the most interesting) gets the most back story. I would have particularly liked more info about Noah. Strangely, the least interesting is Jensen, whose viewpoint is used throughout the story.

Jensen arrived to this special ranch with a totally different job description in his mind. That first meeting with the boss was shocking and a turn on all rolled into one. I am happy that he decided to stay and work with these “ponies” and give the reader another view of a different kink. The at work scenes/sex were just as hot and sexy as the after work scenes/sex. This is a book that you wish was a picture book or at the very least included pictures of the “ponies” in all their finery from start to finish of getting them ready. Bring on book two!

5.0 out of 5 stars So beautiful, not what I had expected

I heard about this book in a group that I’m in and I was intrigued as I had never read anything about pony play before. I went in blind without reading the blurb and discovered the beauty as I went along. I love the way the author wrote the book. They did it so beautifully and it was so interesting. There was so much to read about and more and more was revealed as I read. The care of the pony boys, the stable hands and the trainers was done so well keeping everyone safe at all times. I just couldn’t help thinking how well it all flowed and loved it. I look forward to reading more in this series.
