A cinnamon roll Viking, a socially anxious sweetheart, and a decades-long secret crush.

Jules:

I’ve been in love with my brother’s best friend since I was twelve, and twenty years later, Erik Osouf is still so far out of my league, we aren’t even playing the same sport. Not that I play sports. That means talking to people, and my social anxiety makes that all but impossible.

It also makes my brother incredibly overprotective, and while I love that Stef always has my back, it’s why I still can’t tell Erik how I feel. It would wreck their friendship, and after everything Stef’s done for me, I won’t ever be the cause of that. I just wish my heart would get that memo.

Erik:

For years I thought of Jules Evans as the quiet, sweet kid who regularly crushed me at Mario Kart, and let fireflies loose in our camping tent. Then he accidentally admits he’s in love with me. He doesn’t remember saying anything, and I’d never embarrass him by mentioning it, but since then I can’t stop thinking about kissing him.

If it was anyone else, I’d probably have told them how I feel by now. But he’s my best friend’s younger brother. The same best friend who told me Jules is off-limits. That makes this all kinds of impossible. Unless I can convince them both I’m the right man for Jules.

Choose Me is a low-angst, brother’s best friend, contemporary MM romance about flawed but devoted families, taking chances, and sweet cinnamon roll Vikings. It contains no cheating, and a guaranteed HEA.

my favourite book in the series!

Gary Furlong did an AMAZING job narrative Jules and Stef. It was such a joy listening to their story.
He is able to portray Jules' with so much respect and sensitivity - his anxiety definitely comes through in the narration, but it's never a caricature or heavy handed. It was done so masterfully that my heart ached for Jules' everyday struggles AND exploded with pride for how far he'd come throughout the story.
Furlong's depiction of the sweet, supportive, gentle Viking cinnamon roll that is Erik was *chef's kiss*!!
Gary is my favourite narrator, and he did an absolutely stellar job bringing Beck Grey's story to life.

This is definitely my favourite book in the series! I loved Jules and Erik so much - from the very cute drunk confession of Jules' crush on Erik, to the way Erik always had a special place in his heart for Jules. These two were so perfect for each other!

I appreciated how sensitively and respectfully Jules' anxiety was portrayed, while still showing the incredible impact it has on his every day life AND how hard he works (daily) to live a happy, successful life with it.

And I loved how supportive and kind Erik was to Jules - his love and acceptance was just, wonderful.

I also loved that neither man ''saved'' or ''healed'' or ''completed'' the other - both men had quite a lot of stuff to work through. For Jules it was mostly his anxiety, but for Erik it was his dysfunctional relationship with his siblings (can DEF relate) as well as his own, well-hidden, anxiety. I loved that these two called each other out on their issues (in a very supportive and kind manner) AND not only helped in any way they could but ALSO encouraged each other to seek professional help. Normalising characters going to therapy and being in therapy is such a wonderful thing to do in books - mental health representation and healthy ways to help your mental health really matters.

Beck Grey is one of my favourite authors and this series is DEF one of my comfort reads!

Great comfort listen

I've been struggling a little with audio recently, just couldn't focus properly, but this one definitely caught my attention and kept it all the way through, to the point where I listened to the second half in pretty much one sitting. Every time Jules started to freak out, I was getting anxious along with him, and Erik's voice just felt like a hug. This is what audio should be like, a great book enhanced by a talented narrator.

It wasn't entirely flawless-- some plot points were a little weak and it felt like things were too easily resolved-- but I have to score it highly because I enjoyed the hell out of it. The characterisation was perfect, I loved both MCs, and the romance was beautifully portrayed. Absolutely recommend this one.

This one made me think

I love this series. In this book I was surprised. Yes, the characters were nicely developed over the series, but the anxiety issue really made me think. You really don't know what someone else is going through, and sometimes through others you discover something about yourself that you hadn't considered. Have I always avoided confrontation? When stuck in a situation do I want to shut down? Is my husband a nervous wreck in social situations? Yeah. We've got some things we are dealing with, but I didn't actually recognize the "symptoms" in myself. I thought that was how everyone felt all the time. So thank you for making me aware of something in my life that is a little challenging, and hopefully being aware of it will help me find ways around it. Thank you for writing characters that exhibit challenges and making people more aware of them. Both in themselves and how to recognize it in others and perhaps a little bit of how to de-escalate things.
