    I loved this story. Getting to know Beau and Max was wonderful. It starts out in an unexpected way where the characters meet at a you get age and meet again down the road. Seeing max grow into a man and beau continue to be a very unique demon is fun. They have such chemistry and are truly perfect together. I loved this story and the heat. Odessa really tells stories that have heart and all the feels. Highly recommended!

    But I couldn’t and here’s why.

    The plot was interesting. The writing was good but I needed more. I will say this, having read the trigger warnings and the kinks at the front of the book I was worried this was going to be all about sex but it wasn’t. I’m glad it wasn’t bc I need romance with my spicy times to really enjoy them and this story has that.

    My issue was that the author relies on you filling in some blanks in the relationship to make it feel whole. I needed more sweet bonding moments between the 2 MC’s. Yes they “knew” each other when Max was a sick kid and Beau was his nurse but it wasn’t sexual it was platonic. Now that they’ve found each other again they fell fast and hard for each other but I needed more time/events to build their relationship to really give me “the feels”. As it was it was like being in a a fast river being swept along. I enjoyed the ride but missed some of the beautiful scenery by going so fast.

    Heat level 2.5/5. Ok I’ll admit the TW gave me pause but the labeled kinks at the front of the book gave me the curiosity to get over that lol.

    The spicy times WERE spicy but felt like there could have been more? Maybe more description or maybe if the MC’s felt like they had more of an emotional connection it would have felt like more? Not sure. Again, spicy times were nice. But not up to what I was expecting given the kinks labeled.

    I DID enjoy reading this book and will seriously consider reading more by them.

    ::SPOILERS AHEAD::
    Max finds out that Beau is giving his life force to keep Max healthy. Max doesn’t like that Beau’s one “friend” sneers at him for this and decides he needs to change the status quo despite Beau saying he’s powerful enough to do keep both of them alive.

    The “fix” the figure out is for Max to become a demon which I’m all for BUT Max decides he can’t just disappear from his family so he decides to stop taking Bea’s magic, allow the cancer to come back and kill him “naturally “ to give his family closure. Really? That’s the way you needed to go with this story?

    I AM grateful the author skipped the 4 month period it took Max to decline and die but there HAD to be another way!

    Between that and the above mentioned issues I couldn’t give it 5 stars.

    This is so hard to review. I loved a lot of it and then there were a few bits that I stumbled with. I also loved the best friend and thought that this could have been a bet friends to lovers trope instead and I would have enjoyed that story too. I loved Beau he was great and Max was sweet and Leyland was the best friend you could ever as for. The last part of the book seemed a bit cruel for me and I did struggle with that and the abrupt ending left me wanting more. All that said I enjoyed this story and will read some more from this series.
