    The sheer strength of emotion that Caden and Beckett feel towards one another was the first indication that there was more going on than either was admitting. They were on the same hockey team at school and both were very good at their sport. They dislike one another, more because of assumptions and the need to deal with their own individual issues and insecurities than because they had a real cause to dislike one another. They lash out at one another and look for ways to one up and wound one another not realizing that their barbs hit the mark because they each feel a lot for the other. Yes, they are rivals and feel like enemies in a dangerous way for the well being of the team they both play for. But they are also emotional young men who both want the prize, to be team captain, and there can be only one. The way they go after one another it was only a matter of time when things would come to a head. Lucky for them a little forced proximity helps them arrive at a less destructive outcome than could have been. When they become lovers, even though it was on the downlow, it starts to diffuse the animus and helps each of them get to know the other and grow up a bit and figure out who they are and what they really want. These guys have to do a lot of hard work for their HEA but it was truly sweet!

    Caden and Beckett both play hockey for Northwood U’s Artic Titans. Both were in the running for Captain of the team, after the previous captain graduated. However, despite the fact that Caden was the assistant captain, the coach named Beckett as captain instead. This only increases the existing animosity between the two. Caden stops caring about doing his best on the ice and Beckett starts becoming super strict with his players.

    Because of this, Beckett and Caden frequently get into it with each other. Things finally get so bad the team tells them they either need to make up or quit the team. So they agree to become fake friends. However, Beckett still has a problem with all the guys he keeps seeing Caden out with, finally realizing despite being straight he’s attracted to Caden and jealous of all these guys. It all comes to a head when they’re forced to share a hotel room with only one bed.

    ‘Big Stick Energy’ is a fun romance between two hockey players who are more alike than they realize. As Beckett and Caden move from enemies to fake friends to lovers, you can see their relationship, along with their feelings for each other change. The spicy scenes are also super hot! Once Caden and Beckett get started, they have a hard time keeping their hands off each other. This is definitely a four-star romance.

    Caden & Beckett's spice scenes were so well written and long, absolutely loved it. Laughed and teared up a lot with this one. The snarky banter and whole enemies-to-lovers trope is my fav and this was well done. So far, my fav of the series!! I feel like the cover is very deceptive as both of these guys are bigger athletes, but the title is perfect 😂 Hayden has gotten me out of a maaajor book slump for sure. Can't wait to go thru the rest of his characters' stories. I know I'll miss this world!!
