JOEY'S CHRISTMAS MIRACLE is a standalone read with a HEA. Set in California a family of Italian Catholic firefighters are the main characters in this story. There are some sexy scenes so beware if that is an issue for you. Joey is the oldest in a big family. All the brothers and father are firefighters and are big gorgeous hunks. The story starts with the wedding of Joey and the love of his life, Candy.
This is a big loving, supportative family. The mother of the group pretty much runs the show. It is dinners at Momma's house. She puts in whenever necessary. All the sisters-in-law love her but have to put up boundaries. Being strong catholics Joey wants to start his family right away so they practice every chance they get. A few months after the honeymoon they are expecting their first baby.
In the meantime, Joey has fought a big apartment building fire. He is inside with the smoke almost being unbearable. He hears a noise and thinks it is a cat, he continues on and again he hears a cry and realizes it is a baby. He keeps going even though it is getting very dangerous. In a cardboard box he finds a baby, a few weeks old and totally left behind. He grabs the baby, uses his mask to give it oxygen and starts for the door. The EMT take her as soon as he gets outside and gets her to a hospital. He sees her mother sitting on the lawn smoking a cigarette. She is high on meth and says she forgot she had a baby but doesn't seem at all upset that the baby was almost burned alive.
The baby haunts him. He cannot get her out of his mind. She was taken to the same hospital that his wife is interning in. She checks on the baby and reports back to him. He is almost obsessed with this baby and sort of forgets that his wife is expecting their first.
There is a bit of drama in the story but it is a really good story. It is hard to put down. It is very much like life is today. There is heartbreak, there is joyous celebrating along with learning to love and accept. I loved this hero. He is a big, loving man with a very big heart. It is a very good read and I definitely recommend it. Good read.
