    I passed up this book many times even though this is one of favorite authors. I’m so glad I decided to read it after reading the reviews. I definitely loved the characters in this book. Their chemistry was off the charts.

    I know I read the good with Xander and Ella just can’t remember which book that was. I will definitely read more of this series because JL Beck always makes some hot books to read.

    This is a Mafia romance.
    Julian buys Elena from her father as a way to get revenge for her father killing his mother.
    He is only expecting her to be his pawn in
    his revenge scheme but more and more he starts falling for her.
    He fights it every second.

    I felt sorry for Elena, her father had kept her sheltered from everything and then she was Julian's prisoner.
    She is naive and innocent but still strong and resilient.
    At times, I hated Julian. He could be cruel and he had a hard time showing how he felt.
    However, the chemistry and love between the two grew and it's really exciting as it unfolds on the paper.
    If you want Mafia men, alpha male, Possessive, touch-her-and-die, and virgin heroine then this is the book for you!
    Add in some violence and villains and it's an awesome book, which will keep you glued to the pages!

    J.L. Beck and C. Hallman are 2 fantastic co-writers. I have read many books by these 2, and every book I've read by them have truly enjoyed it. I first discover these 2 authors when I first read the the King of Corium series. And to find out this book somewhat connects to some of the characters from KoC is very interesting.

    This book has it all dark and gritty, obsession and love. The 2 main characters Julian and Elena, don't exactly start off on a great encounter. In his quest for revenge Julian pays 10million to Elenas father not only out of revenge but simply because of a need to have her. They have they're ups and downs don't see eye to eye on the same things. Julian is out to Kill Elena father for the murder of his mother and her unborn baby which we find out was Elena fathers. But even knowing that Elena still doesn't understand and thinks her father shouldn't have to die. Its not until both Elena and Julian are in a life or death situation that she finally sees her father for the person he truly is. That he never truly cared for his "daughter". For her to have fallen in love with Julian in his eyes considers useless.
    Luckily for these two characters we do get a HEA.

    So first, the book really needed better editing. Misuse of phrases “rap sheet” when “track record” was the phrase that fit; you’re versus your, aide when it should have been aid; Maria when it should have been Marie. Those are just a few of the issues. One of my biggest “uh, what” moments was when Elena (obviously, Beck, but the character was Elena) said Marie looked “exotic.” …um…yeah that’s probably not the best thing to say.

    Now this part contains spoilers so beware. Elena was just…dumb. I can’t explain it any other way. She was so dumb. And kind of weak. Outside of that, it’s clear that she knows that she’s being used as revenge, but then *pikachu face* oh no, I’m being used as revenge. I’m not sure if Beck just forgot that she wrote Elena as being aware of the motivations for her “sale,” but that just rang so false. Then, she “doesn’t want anyone to die” but was excited when she saw him kill some guy in an alley?

    Honestly that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The “mafia” piece of this was really light too, if that’s what you’re into.

    It wasn’t terrible but I wouldn’t read it again and I won’t read the series.

    I read a lot of Beck & Hallman books, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every one of them thus far. This newest addition, Savage Beginnings, is a mafia arranged marriage story, connected through certain characters to the Rossi Crime Family series. I loved every page. I greatly appreciate how these authors portray their crime families — realistically. The men are hard core, true criminals in every sense of the word, but they vigorously protect those they care for. They don’t “see the light” and stop being involved in the mafia life. They are what they are and make no excuses regarding their behavior. To me, this is believable. This is the story of Elena Romero and Julian Moretti, both born into the mafia world through family. Julian has had his sights set on Elena for quite some time, but not out of admiration or love, no. He wants revenge on her father and wants to use Elena to accomplish this goal. The two of them are placed together through a marriage contract and the story unfolds from there. And it’s quite a story. I think I went through almost the entire gambit of emotions reading it. It’s so well told and completely engaging. If you enjoy mafia stories, then pick up this book. It fits the genre beautifully. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

    The development between elena and Julian is well written. I liked watching their story unfold. Elena fought back as well as she could even though there were sometimes I wanted to smack her for being so naive. Julian starts out quite unlikeable but he grows on you. A lot.

    The MC is a bad man, unapologetically so. I dont see a redeeming quality in him. He treats the FC very poorly, and she lets him. She is very naïve, shy, and innocent.
    I could have enjoyed this book more if the MC was more conciderate of those facts. He was too harsh and mean in my opinion.
    That being said, the story is still interesting, the book well written, but I only recommand this to people who enjoy DARK romance.
