Secret Daddy (Arrowood) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 514 ratings

I hadn’t admitted to myself that my life was going nowhere until I first had him.

Living back in my small mountain town, in my childhood home, with my older brother, working at the library wasn’t as exciting as I imagined.

That was until a stranger came to the library one night and turned my world around.

Night after night, month after month, I waited for him after dark.

He never let me see his face but he always showed me how well he knew me. No one had ever read my needs so well or pushed me so far and I was in too deep before I even knew who he was.

I just called him Daddy.

****Secret Daddy is a Holiday MM romance featuring a small town, a librarian, a park ranger, and some forced proximity.

This was a amazing story full of emotions. The characters were all great. The romance between Aiden and Jensen was sweet and very sexy. The Adler family relationships were funny, loving and relatable. I loved this book. It was very entertaining.

Loved the dynamic between “the Phantom” who visited Aiden in his little library on nights for six months. Aiden is so very needy. He lashes out with his snark which is mostly very funny but sometimes hurtful. He had a recent bad breakup and is fearful of a repeat so having this Phantom come and do kinky things to him was his dream. Oh, and the Phantom brought a mask for Aiden to wear. Why? When we finally find out who the Phantom is to Aiden, things get really intense. Aiden is a dramatic diva which Jensen likes. Honestly, his angst was a little much at times but maybe that is what a male diva would be like. (???) I think something may be happening with Adam, Aiden’s older brother and another ranger, Cody’s brother. And, why did Avery leave 14 years ago so suddenly? Could it have anything to do with Danny? I’m hoping there are more characters lurking in Gray’s brain! I would love to read their stories.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and I give this one 4.5 M/M steamy stars.

I was thrilled with the beginning of this. It caught my interest and I was ready to devour it. Then I had to stop reading for work and when I picked it up again I found I had only made it halfway into the story. The second half dragged on for days. I fluctuated on the rating and opted to be generous with a 3 star since there were some elements that I really liked.

The good was overtaken by bad, though. I hate books in a series that spend an unnecessary amount of time building up the next book(s) while ignoring the story they're supposed to be telling with the current book I'm reading. There's enough in this for me not to have a good opinion of Avery, but I an interested in Adam’s story and I'll read them both but do not like that we already know who each brother will end up with because it's so heavily written into this first book.

For Aiden and Jensen, the main characters of this book, it just ends up a mess, in my opinion. The tonal shifts don't work. It starts with the dark, dangerous and risky behavior in the library and it is clear that Aiden wants dark and edgy from a dominant partner. Once Jensen's identity becomes known, though, the tone shifts to romantic comedy and that seems to be what Jensen prefers, but they persist in this Daddy/brat play that seems out of place with the supposed plot while being a central theme in the story. It's just too much thrown in without a clear purpose or smooth finish. And for all the drawn out topics, it opts to do a 2 week jump cut at the end to "resolve" the issue of Jensen's new job after hinting that it was a big issue for them to deal with. That tells me that the author either lost the plot or just rushed the ending and it's so anticlimactic.

Who knew so much kink goes on in libraries. It's always the quiet ones. Aiden and Jensen were not afraid to get their kink on. Jensen was secretly coming to Aiden's job and making him wear a mask while they had sex until Jensen finally reveals himself as Aiden's older brother Adam's best friend. Jensen has always wanted Aiden but had to wait until he was old enough and his boyfriend broke up with him. Aiden secretly had a crush on Jensen too over the years. Together they had a great daddy/boy dynamic. I loved Jensen's nickname for Aiden. Aiden's parents were so funny and were so blunt in their comments. They were the coolest parents. Some family issues add a touch of angst and Aiden's insecurities about Jensen's new job in the city get resolved by end of book. I would love to see this turn into a series with Adam up next. I highly recommend this book.

This is my first story from J.R. Gray. I really enjoyed it. It was fun and the characters had great chemistry. There were some hot scenes. The family dynamic is hilarious! I can't wait to read more about that in the upcoming books. I have to be honest and say it wasn't my fav of this trope that I've read. But I did enjoy the secrecy part and the things that Aiden and Jensen experimented with.

Nope. The MC is a snarky twink who isn’t funny. The mystery of the oldest brother is boring. The middle brother being gay in a small mountain town and running a successful bar, cool but not believable.

I didn’t care about the characters. I didn’t like any of them. Then Daddy (not what most would consider a true Daddy/Boy relationship but it could be with a loose definition) brings out the cane...not for me.

One of the hardest things about this book is the dialogue, it’s hard to know who is talking or about what until the end or a paragraph; which is jarring and made me have to reread a number of scenes. It’s a writing style choice, but I need more clues up front about what’s going on.

Sometimes you need a good Daddy/Brat story and this hits the spot. JR is forever a one-click author for me because he never disappoints. It ended a little unresolved with the family drama, but I hope that just means we'll be hearing more from the Adler's. They were a fun, snarky, sarcastic family that I'd feel right at home with in real life.

This story was hilarious and adorable. Fantastic daddy kink and a seriously funny family of characters to round it out. Hoping both the brothers get their own story too.

So sweet, funny and steamy. I’m used to J.R gray making me feel all the feelings which this did but without the usual trauma. I found myself smiling like a fool constantly throughout this. Aidan’s snark is spot on

This was a scorching hot, but also sweet read. I loved the banter between Aiden and Jensen, and how well suited they were. Their chemistry was palpable, and the intimate scenes between them - just wow! I loved that we got alternating POV, which really helped with the character depth and development. Aiden's freak outs fit his personality so well, and Jensen's patience and devotion were beautiful to read. I loved watching them work through things and embark on a deeper, more permanent relationship. Aiden's family were a lot of fun too, and I'm looking forward to reading Avery and Adam's books.
