Malachi Booth is a supermodel. He’s used to moving about the world, sleeping with whoever takes his fancy, and watching the money roll in. The last place he expects to find himself is on a run-down farm in Cornwall, but a bad bout of bronchitis means that he’s stuck there. The only compensation for this dismal state of affairs is that the farmer is very good looking, even if he’s the grumpiest person that Malachi has ever met.

Cadan Landry’s farm has been in his family for hundreds of years but that doesn’t make it any easier to make ends meet. As a consequence, Cadan could be called grumpy. Most men would consider a supermodel collapsing at their feet while dressed in the skimpiest pair of briefs ever made to be a sign of good fortune. Cadan just resents the fact that the young man is taking up space in his cow field.

These two men are from different worlds, but can they ever meet in the middle?

From best-selling author Lily Morton comes a novella about snarky models, misconceptions, and finding a home in the most unlikely of places.

Lily Morton never ceases to amaze me with her wonderful writing style, witty dialogue and brilliant mind. This fabulous opposites attract romantic comedy, grabbed my attention right from the start, and held it for the entire book. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they were easy to care about too. I adored both lead characters, the snarky model Malachi Booth and the grumpy farmer, Cadan Landry. Malachi was not feeling well, but that did not stop him from going to his photo shoot on a farm in Cromwell. The farm did not impress him, but the farmer was nice to look at, though not friendly or nice. After his makeup artist works her magic, he is ready to go, but he does not last very long and the next thing he knows he is waking up in an unfamiliar bed with an unfamiliar woman hovering over him and only has vague memories of what happened. After he passed out, Cadan called the doctor and brought him into the house to get checked out and the doctor said he needed to be on bed rest until he recovered. Cadan busy with farm work had his mother come to help nurse him back to health, and she stayed until he was well enough. She could see there was something between her son and Malachi despite her son not seeing it yet. A still recuperating, Malachi was going to leave when she left, but Caden said he could stay longer, yep he was growing on him. Ir was great watching these two spending time together getting to know each other. I thought they were great together and for each other. And that cooking scene had me rolling on the floor laughing. This wonderfully plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, humor, heartfelt emotions and a slow burn, but so worth the wait romance. Lily Morton, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride, loved your spring strings concept too.

🎧📚🎧 And for the exceptional narration, once again Joel Leslie delivers an outstanding performance bring Lily Morton’s characters and story to life. It sounds like she makes these roles just for him because he is such a natural in each one of those roles. He switches roles effortlessly, never missing a beat, and handles the witty dialogue with ease and lands the humor with perfection. You could hear how much heart he puts into his performance as he captures the character’s emotions and projects them into his performance. Joel Leslie is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank your another amazing listen.

Spring Strings is as enjoyable a listen as it was a read. Although this is a shorter story, the character and romantic development are in place, and I found myself caught up in the story for a second time.

Malachi and Cadan seemingly come from two different worlds. I love how this story merges those worlds and then plucks similarities shared by both men to establish a relationship born of care and understanding. As always, this author includes a good amount of intimacy in the story, but it never feels superfluous, instead enhancing the romance and chemistry the couple shares. With a beautiful setting and lovely characters, there is a lot to enjoy about Spring Strings. However, by far, my favorite part is just how easy the dialogue and writing style pull me in and make me laugh and smile. I love the snark and playful banter and coupled with an easy-to-read style. It’s a winning combination that will keep me coming back again and again.

Lily Morton definitely has a specific tone that makes her books work for me as a reader, and Joel Leslie always seems to be a good fit. His delivery of the author’s clever, sunny wit was on point, and I especially liked how he brought Malachi’s lively energy and sarcastic remarks to the forefront of each scene.

If you enjoy stories of opposites attract and love some good back-and-forth banter in your romances, Spring Strings is a fantastic listen that is sure to pass your day away with some laughs and smiles.

This is a quick, sweet read that gives us a little bit more information about Caden and Mal who we met in the Mixed Messages series (Jude and Asa are mentioned in this book).

Mal and Caden’s story happens all because of Mal’s agent and thank God for her. She cut through all their crap and helped them see what they needed. They are very sweet together and I adored how Caden protected and stood up for Mal. Mal was finally able to be himself with Caden and on his farm.

Their happily ever after is as sweet as can be and I love how they make their very different lives work together.

Joel Leslie is brilliant as always!

Love Mal!

Such a fun opposites attract story. Malachi is a bratty supermodel who falls ill on a shoot that n a farm in Cornwall. Cadan is a grumpy farmer who ends up reluctantly nursing him back to health. Neither man is too happy with the situation, yet neither seems to want it to end. Both have baggage, because…romance novel. But the author uses it sparingly to move the couple forward at a nice pace. Side characters were fun and helped with the plot. Joel Leslie’s narration is always amazing, and his British accent is perfectly done.

Spring Strings is the perfect example of a snarky, previously semi-peripheral MC who was kind of disliked but absolutely steals the show and melts your heart. Seriously, total and complete mush. Malachi may be my new favorite (fictional) character - certainly amongst my top favorite characters, right up there with Jude and Oz and…okay, okay I love ALL of Lily Morton’s characters. But I digress. Malachi and Cadan shouldn’t work but when it comes right down to it, they work perfectly because after you get past their snarky, battered outer layers, both have the gooey center like a perfectly made chocolate truffle. The image of an 18 year old Mal standing in front of his agent-to-be with shaking hands…well, gobsmacked. Cadan and Malachi deserve their HEA. Joel Leslie delivers and Lily Morton has done it again. Buy the book and the audio because you won’t want to put it down even when you’re supposed to, you’ll thank me later.

I adore Mal and Caden! The snark flies in the Cornwall countryside as the super model and the farmer find common ground and fall in love, whether they mean to or not! Perfect example of Lily Morton’s fabulous characters and storytelling and Joel Leslie’s stellar narration skills! Definitely worth a listen!

This was a great story with lots of heart in it, if a little on the shorter side. I felt it. Joel Leslie did an amazing job with the narration.

Lots of heart

I listened to two books back-to-back, not realizing that Joel Leslie read both until later. I’ve listened to a number of books read by him, and he is an incredible voice actor. I never have those moments of confusion trying to figure out who is speaking, much less their gender, when he is the narrator. I am convinced he could read the phone book and make it sound interesting.

The book itself is a standard romance, and not Lily Morton’s best. (I like The Mysterious and Amazing Blue Billings better, although it has a lower rating. That one is a ghost story, spooky without being gory.) But if you want romance with a guarantee of a happily ever after (which I do), then Lily Morton is a sure bet. If you want it mixed with mystery, Alice Winters works, too. Both are wonderful if you want to avoid depressing fiction. I don’t know why the arty crowd insists on sad endings.

Again, amazing narration — no, make that voice acting.

Good story, but *5-star* narration
