I find vineyards very romantic. This story taking place in a vineyard is exactly the kind of romance I hoped to read about.

Gemma and Skye randomly meet in a bar and share an amazing kiss. Neither of them expected to see each other again until they did in Gemma's family vineyard. Skye ends up working for her, which means that they have to keep things professional. We are then treated to a delicious slow burn of the pair full of sexual tension.

    A wonderful romance ❤️

Skye, divorced for a year, learns that her ex is getting married at the hotel where they both work. Sitting at a local bar with her bartender friend, she bemoans her woes and wonders what she did wrong with her choice in women… make that her ex-wife. In the midst of Skye’s life scrutiny, a stranger enters the bar and the conversation. That stranger is Gemma; she’s a beauty, and she’s someone who unintentionally makes a connection with Skye so strongly that they share a blazing, one-time, just for tonight only kiss. Because, what could it hurt?

Those consequences show up later, when they unexpectedly meet again at a wine tasting. Shortly thereafter, Skye escapes her previous world, moves away from her ex and takes a job at the winery that Gemma runs. Despite the chemistry, the want and that dang kiss between the two of them, the rule is no fraternizing with the boss. And, let me tell you, this is a problem for both of them.

My favorite parts of the book? I loved every bit about growing a winery, expanding the business and attracting customers. I live in a wine region. We have wineries like the one described here. So, that was a lot of fun for me to imagine.

My next favorite part? I loved the heated fight that they have at the end. I think this was the best part. Sorry, I hope that’s not a spoiler. I don’t think it is. I enjoyed the characters actually getting things off their chests and saying what they needed to say to each other after months of frustration of not acting on their feelings. I could see myself acting they same way Skye did.

I did give this book 3 stars. Why? It wasn’t totally my speed, it turns out. I was hoping that it was. However, it might be right up your alley, so don’t take my word for it. I can be a bit shallow (I say that sometimes, but it might not really be true, so take that with a grain of salt), and I might have needed to have things spelled out for me a little bit more in this one. I may not have processed some of the dialog as throughly as I should have. Sometimes I felt the chemistry and the dilemma that faced them, but there were other times that I didn’t understand the motivations behind their actions. I remember more than once that I thought to myself… “huh? I should re-read that”. But I didn’t.

Anyways, if you’re into unresolved sexual tension (UST) that does eventually get resolved, this might be the book for you. While I love UST and its resolve, this wasn’t the book for me, but it just might be the right book for you.

Of all of Clare Lydon's stories, this was the one I decided to start with to see if I would like her writing. A more than interesting opening, a very enjoyable story that had me hooked for most of it, but some of the drama and hurt that occurred during and later in the story felt like a bit too much. Really, I just wanted them to kiss and admit to their feelings and get together. I know that it is somewhat a staple of the genre, but sometimes I would just like a little less, and that was definitely the case here. Nether the less, I enjoyed it, happy to have purchased it, may at some point looked at some other of her titles.

It starts with that kiss and bumps you through a "one step forward, two steps back" romance. Lydon makes you laugh and ache as these two women struggle to get past their family issues, fears, and past failed relationships and into each other's arms

This was my first lesbian novel I have read, from start to finish it was brilliant, I have read it in less than a week and over 3 days. Absolutely loved it.

The characters were their own and wow what can I say the words written invoked a visualisation of the scenes. I found the story funny in places and that Skye is a character, I laughed I even had tears welling up in places which never happens to me when reading a book.

I have purchased two other novels from Clare since starting this and can't wait to start reading them. I would highly recommend Clare's book based on reading just this one and if you're anything like me and have been extremely shy to purchase a lesbian novel....don't be .....I have wasted too many years of my life being shy, they really are well written and be prepared to get feelings provoked, I think I found my new favourite author. I can't wait to read more of Clare's novels and hope I can afford to buy some more soon.

It Started With A Kiss… it certainly did!
A fast moving tale set in a beautiful English vineyard with likeable characters and some seriously laugh out loud moments, plus a little lesbian angst thrown in for good measure… right until the last page I had no idea which way the story of Skye and Gemma would go.
About to start my next Clare Lydon adventure and expecting another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ performance!
