The Island of Summer Sunsets: An utterly uplifting and heartwarming story Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 251 ratings

A summer escape that will whisk you away to an island getaway and have you wishing for a seaside retreat with your feet in the sand and the golden sunset at your back. The Island of Summer Sunsets is perfect for fans of Robyn Carr, Brenda Novak, and RaeAnne Thayne.

In the small southern village of Fripp, Janie Brooks's life is moving along at about the same slow pace as the island—exactly the way she wants it. After the death of Janie’s husband, unable to find her own way, she spends her days with the seagulls and swallow-tailed kites, in the serene bliss of the Atlantic coast.

Until newcomer
Ryan Kennedy and his teenage daughter move into the rental down the street, shaking up Janie’s well-ordered, simple life. Ryan has enough to deal with, being a single dad. All he wants is to move into a brand-new house in this quaint community and start fresh. But, with Janie down the street, that might be easier said than done.

Will Janie and Ryan find their own version of paradise? Where the daily tide swells and the minnow counts are the only news in town, something big might just change both their lives forever...

Sail away to the dunes and salty spray of the glistening South Carolina coast with this heartwarming beach read about hope, family, and finding out who was meant for us.

Susan Sands grew up in a real life Southern Footloose town in Northwest Louisiana, complete with her senior class hosting the first ever prom in the history of their tiny public school with half the town chaperoning. Is it any wonder she writes Southern small town stories full of porch swings, fun and romance?

Susan lives in Roswell, Georgia with her husband, Doug, their Labradoodle, Watson, and lots of material for her next book. Her three adult children are in various stages of finishing college and getting off the payroll.

I just finished this book as I sit in my favorite place on another beach island that has a national wildlife refuge. This story really touched a special place in my heart because I've always admired the people that volunteer their time to conserve, protect and enhance wildlife and their habitats. As this book embraces that theme while telling a story of a beautiful, young woman who goes from heartbreak to finding true love again. And the setting of Fripp Island just sounds magical to me.
I've read all of Susan Sand's books and can't wait for more!! She really makes you fall in love with all the characters.

THE ISLAND OF SUMMER SUNSETS is the latest Southern fiction novel by Susan Sands. On idyllic Fripp Island, off the coast of South Carolina, Janie is hiding from life after the accidental death of her husband, continuing his conservation work. She never thought she would meet anyone else, so when Ryan and his daughter, Sibley, move in a couple houses down, she’s surprised when she starts having feelings for Ryan, especially after she and Sibley start a friendship.
Ryan and Sibley move to Fripp Island for a fresh start, needing one after Sibley’s mother decided to pursue a different life without them. Ryan wants to make a good home for his daughter and is surprised when Janie starts to fill a place in both his and Sibley’s life, a spot neither thought would be filled.
A beautiful, slow burn romance, with well-drawn characters that I would love to be friends with, in a wonderful setting, THE ISLAND OF SUMMER SUNSETS is a perfect beach read.
Thanks to the publisher for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of the novel. All opinions are my own and freely given.

Romantic telling of a story for lovers on their Second time around. It was fun to picture the beautiful SC beach landscape and the new friendships formed on Fripp Island. And they lived happily ever after!

Janie has been through the loss of her husband, Daniel. To keep herself busy and to honor her late husband, she decides to continue the conservation work on the island with protecting sea turtle nests, kites’ nests, and fiddler crabs habitats. When a new neighbor moves in with his teenager daughter, will she make time to find out who they are and what has brought them to the island? Will she open up her heart again for new friendships?

This books explores important issues of conservation, divorce, loss of a spouse, parenting a teen after divorce, while telling a compelling and entertaining story!

A quick read that is hard to put down! Perfect for your pool or beach bag! A great book club pick as well as it will lead to great many discussion!
