Dominic Hurst is always up for a challenge. Step in as director of the world’s second-largest theme park complex? No problem. Clean up the mess the previous director left behind? Sure. Have his seventeen-year-old daughter move in with him in a last-minute custody change? Bring it on.
Face off with a town full of matchmakers? Uh… what?
Oliver Jeffries is a man more than comfortable with his life. Teach teenagers to fall in love with literature? Absolutely. Tackle mindboggling tasks as head of the English department? Pass him the whip. Placate parents convinced their perfect children can do no wrong? Pfft. Child’s play.
Agree to a friends-with-benefits arrangement with the most talked-about man in Joyville? Uhm… maybe in secret?
When Dom and Oliver meet, there’s no question that friendship won’t be enough. But the citizens of Joyville don’t know the meaning of “private,” and dating the director puts Oliver firmly in the spotlight.
With the whole town watching and laying bets, is their fledgling relationship doomed to fail?

About the author

Louisa Masters started reading romance much earlier than her mother thought she should. While other teenagers were sneaking out of the house, Louisa was working out how to read romance novels without being discovered. As an adult, she feeds her addiction in every spare second, only occasionally tearing herself away to do things like answer the phone and pay bills. She lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she whines about the weather for most of the year while secretly admitting she’ll probably never move.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2020I enjoyed this wrap up to the JU series though it was not my favorite due to personal preferences.
I liked both Dominic and Oliver. I thought the author did a great job moving the focus from within JU into Joyville itself to see the impact that JU has on the community, due to the community's dependence on JU. I appreciated Cara's wish to not be known as "the director's daughter" though was curious if her instructions to dress casually and smile really were enough to not have people recognize him.
All the characters from the previous books make appearances, with Malcolm and Seth continuing to make an appearance.
With Oliver not being a JU employee, it makes the focus on Joyville make sense but I love competency porn so missed seeing behind the scenes at JU. I would have liked to know more about the company's recovery from everything Luke found and just some sense of what Dominic did besides sit in meetings. There's not even much backstory - what kinds of companies has he run and what made him a logical pick to be director. So, this is all personal preference that isn't integral to the story so I understand why it's not included.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2024Dom, the new director of JU and Oliver, head of the English department at the local high school meet due to an unfortunate incident at the school involving Cara, Dom’s opinionated and headstrong daughter. Things progress and unfortunately, not everyone loves them getting together. Oliver deals with some trouble at work that bleeds into their relationship. Enjoyed this last installment of the JU Universe.

4 ½ Stars
I enjoyed this. I missed one book somewhere down the line, so I can't say if this is my favorite or not yet, but Take Us There is my favorite of those I’ve read.
These characters are interesting and relatable. Their personalities are very likable, and I enjoyed getting to know these older men and learning how they are dealing with getting past the “optimal age” (I mostly see younger characters as the lead, so…) for romance, love, lust, etc. They have settled into their bodies without all the posing and posturing you see in younger characters. They feel more real to me because of it.
It was nice to see characters from previous books and knowing that they are still doing well. These little reunions give depth to the series and added interest to the current work.
The storyline is well done, and I was quite happy to hate the "bad guy" and cheer for their defeat.
I’m sorry for this series to end.
I look forward to more from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2022This whole series DID NOT disappoint! From the beginning of the first book to the last page of this one, I was hooked. I can’t say enough good things about this book and series!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2021A pleasant mellow series to read. The little twist in this book was a welcome event to spice it up some and interesting. Now that the series is over according to Louisa I’m sure we’re all thinking the same thing...what about Jaiden?!?? I’m going to go look right now for his book. Lol
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2020This is a new to me author. I really enjoyed reading her Demons do it better book and I decided to try this (even though it’s part of a series, it read very well as a standalone).
Dominic is a VIP by virtue of being in charge of a company that a town is built around for. Oliver is head of the english department at the high school where Dominic’s only child is a student. What follows is a series of events that follow Dom’s daughter’s school life that spilled over to Dom and then to Oliver and later to an actual casual dating between the two which of course resolved into an HEA.
Overall light hearted, sweet, and funny small town love story between two middle-aged and older man. I enjoyed the banter and overall story. The conflict that arose between the two might be a bit overblown though certainly understandable.
When there’s so many stories that I’ve been not able to finish recently (Pandemic does have its effect even on my reading!), I am happy to say I finished the story and fairly enjoyed it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2021If there was a theme park somewhere like this I would be all in. I'd love to live in a place that sounds as joyful as Joyville. This story sparks on some out-dated ideas and people who are stuck in the past and just plain hateful to others. I did love seeing the mature relationship bloom between to sweet men.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2020Dom's daughter is insistent that her dad get out, make friends, date someone. But Dom has only been working at his high-level job for a few months and he's had some messes to clean up. He doesn't know if he's ready for the time commitment a relationship would require, especially since this is Cara's last year of high school. But circumstances lead to him meeting Oliver.
Oliver loves working at Joyville High School as the head of the English department. Unfortunately, the job also comes with occasionally dealing with unpleasant situations between parents and their children versus the school, which is how he meets the new director of Joy Universe, Dominic.
When their paths cross outside of school and their jobs, they take the opportunity to spend some time together. They both like what they find but with their situations, they prefer to keep their interactions private. However, it seems like everyone they know (and a lot of people they don't) are deciding to get involved in matchmaking, gossiping, and betting on a relationship between them. Can you make a relationship work when the whole town is pushing you together? In Dominic and Oliver's case, yes.
This is the fourth book in the Joy Universe Series and having not read the first three books, I didn't feel lost or that I'd missed important history or background. Dominic and Oliver's story stood well on its own.
I received an ARC of this book and am leaving an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars A grand finale for this amazing series
I was a little sad when I read in the afterword that this was the final installment in this wonderful series. I discovered Louisa Masters because the Joy Universe series, and after 4 novels, some short stories and a Hidden species's book later I had become a huge fan. Every book is a treat, featuring endearing characters overcoming obstacles to find love and their happily ever after. Now at the end we found the core of everything, and is much more than another amazing and sweet love story. It Is about the great family of Joyville and how if you are part of them, they will be with you and become also your family. The book is the jewel of the series and the grand finale this series deserved. Loved It!

5.0 out of 5 stars There’s trouble in paradise - a lot.
Sweet but not sickly. Not the usual ‘slight difficulties to be overcome’ story, finishing in never ending bliss. There’s a fair bit of angst and drama, and a couple of easy to hate villains for good measure - then the happy ever after, though we never do get to find out the results of the betting 😄

4.0 out of 5 stars a complicated match for two high ranking men
Dom is the new director of Joy Universe, brought in to right the ship after his predecessor neglected it. His seventeen year old daughter Cara is with him to finish up high school.
Oliver learns of Cara’s conflict with an unfair teacher when Dom comes in to complain about her. From there, they become friends, add benefits, then decide to stop fooling themselves and date.
Then the teacher who gave Cara a hard time causes trouble for Oliver and Dom makes the mistake of looking at a report about Oliver’s case that he has access to because of his position.
This broken trust causes them to break up for a month, and Dom sees his mistake and Oliver also knows he overreacted.
Oliver is vindicated and the two reconcile, all is happy in Joy Universe. Good story, I like that these men are a bit older, more established, but can still find love and a future together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read
This is a lovely easy book to read, I liked the characters and the storyline, it includes some of the characters from the previous books. It's fairly predictable so you can just relax and enjoy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very satisfying
A nice story to finish the series with. I think I loved the dialogue most of all, especially when Cara is explaining to Dom, her father, just why she has received detention from her English teacher.
For me, dialogue drives a story and I wish there was more of it in these books as Ms Masters has a lovely dialogue style; witty and intelligent. Too much narrative and I begin to lose interest.
But all in all, this was a lovely story about two mature men finding love. Dominic and Oliver, who is the head of the English department at Cara’s high school, meet after the incident concerning Cara and her English teacher and from there, they start seeing each other, mostly without the help from their friends and colleagues, but who are still determined to ‘help’ Dom and Oliver’s romance along.
4 stars.
