—
Dear Reader,
Not long ago, I read an article about World War II and a partnership between the US Military and the US National Park Service. The result was the establishment of rest and recuperation camps within American national parks for returning veterans. So, my mind wandered . . .
Then I visited Big Sky and the pieces came together. A place once magic and healing would one day be again. That’s where my story began, where words flowed onto the page. What happened next was a search for the meaning of heroes, a quest to find self and a deeper gratitude for all that life has to give.
For me, this story is about digging into the shared sacrifice of veterans and their loved ones. What does it mean to be a hero? Who do heroes go to for help? And what if hero roles are reversed?
I hope I’ve done each of these characters justice and I hope you see part of yourself or a loved one in each of them. If not, maybe you’ll just enjoy a good story that takes a splash in the pool of hope and wonder.
Here’s to the hero in each of us, and here’s to you and the wonders you have yet to spread, my friend.

WHY C. G. COOPER MATTERS
Fiction has the power to change lives.
Pay a visit to Cooper Country and you’ll understand why. With his unique voice and flair for creating characters you’d love to hang out with, C. G. Cooper imparts every one of his novels with messages that perfectly illuminate what Faulkner called, “the human heart in conflict with itself.” In them, characters confront hard truths about life, the necessity of war, the military industrial complex, and why and how good men and women die.
But there are messages within the messages.
There is the power of the individual to triumph over evil against overwhelming odds; the struggle of good people against their inner demons; there is brotherhood, family, the discovery of allies in unexpected places, struggles with faith; there is community; there is authenticity; Cooper’s heart is on every page, beating hard and fast through action and moments of tenderness alike.
Expect high-octane action, slow-burn thrills, and gut-wrenching drama. Expect the ultimate conflict of the human heart.
This is Cooper Country. Lives will change.
THE LOWDOWN
Drawing on his days as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps—a stint that came on the heels of a degree in foreign affairs from UVA—Cooper sifted his experience through his vivid imagination and created Corps Justice, the first novel in the beloved Corps Justice series. Thus, a band of characters was born that would go on to enthrall readers throughout 17 novels and counting. With more than 2 million book downloads and multiple appearances in the Amazon Top 100, C. G. Cooper remains one of the most successful USA TODAY and Amazon best-selling authors.
In 2020, he won the prestigious James Webb Award presented by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for his novel Chain of Command.
In addition to bouncing around the country in search of the perfect vacation (turns out, it is anywhere with his family), Cooper has called Nashville home ever since his final Marine duty station. When not enjoying the laid-back lifestyle of Music City, he’s doing his best to add more novels to the growing list at cg-cooper.com.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2021With the same depth of understanding and pureness of spirit, C.G. Cooper has shown over and over in his writing, he possesses the ability to transport his readers inside of his own imagination and take you by the hand, as well as by the heart. He brings his readers along on a journey of heart, spirit, love and the belief that we all are capable of believing in and finding the magic in and around our lives and those in it each and every day.
That until we choose to see it, our differences of experience may truly not be as large of a human divide than we think they are.
I love the characters that I met in this beautiful novel and look forward to being introduced to others soon.
I look forward to Lone Peak Heroes Book 2.
Well done!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2021What an amazing story about two veterans each meeting an extraordinary woman
Major Characters
• Sergeant Richard "Ricky" Lovejoy & Betsy Caramatti (1943)
• Former Marine Jack Moses & Sadie Crawford (Present time)
Location
Lone Peak Ranch is a place formed by the National Park Service during WW II for veterans where they could visit for rest and recuperation (R&R) or participate during their medical rehabilitation.
This is a story of two couples intertwined between two time frames, occurring at a mystical and magical place found in the Rocky Mountains of southern Montana, where miracles can occur to unsuspecting people.
Once you start reading this book, you will find yourself transported to this wonderful place and indeed find it very difficult for you to stop reading. Many veterans will especially find the magic and mystery in this book to be intriguing to them.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2023Flashbacks between 1943 and current in two different lives all tied together in the magic of Lone Peak. I read this one very quickly. Good read maybe time for a road-trip to Montana
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2021Ever wonder how\why life has unfolded in the manner it has? Cooper knocked this novel WAY out of the stadium into the stratosphere.
He examines how ALL people involved in war - those fighting it, people making soldiers, BUT also families with loved ones either fighting in the war or attempting to what they have seen or done. They, too, become victims of war.
The often frequent "war" with PTSD and the struggle to reintegrate into society as a civilian is a central theme within the book. Knowing Cooper's military career, I wondered how much he drew from personal experience. You could feel is heart bleeding through the book.
Daniel Briggs makes a beautifully written cameo which contributed to Jack's recovery in addition to an overlapping situation in war that leads to his new future. The lives intertwine in Jack's past helping a suicidal soldier. The advice Jack provides to assist the soldier in a roundabout way help Jack in the future.
Though nebulous as it sounds, it makes sense. I recommend you to read this book. Just know you won't want to stop reading the stories of Ricky and Betsy in 1943 and Jack and Sadie - present day. The stories explore trauma, love, healing, spirituality, and transformation.
Keep an open mind and heart while reading. This book awakens your heart and soul.
All I can say is this book is deserving of all the high praises it has received in the reviews.
Kudos, Cooper. This book brought me to appreciating the moment and cherishing loved ones AND to live in the moment.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2023Nothing like I expected. Being. From a patriotic family, I chose this book expecting war weary characters. Being the niece of a WWII German prisoner, 2 purple heart recipient uncles, an Omaha Beach survivor, and etc, I expected a book of bravery and recovery. Then it became magic. Recovery, love, bravery, even horses. Great plot, breathless surprises, suspense, and well throw in some strong women ,and this book had it all. Well done Cooper! Don't miss this one! I'm off to The Second!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2021Author C.G. Copper has written an unforgettable, outstanding story that is chocked full of believable characters, mystery, and action—THE FIRST.
THE FIRST, steps away from C.G. Cooper's "normal." The author, using historical events, dares to connect readers with up-close tales of angst and raw pain. Character Daniel Briggs says, "They educate us well in the Corps, don't they? Teach us to be tough. Teach us how to kill. They even teach us to be compassionate. Did they ever teach [us] . . . even the hardest warrior can be broken?" The reader is drawn into the minds and lives of "broken" individuals and follows their journey toward purpose, hope, and love.
This is a great book!! I highly recommend C.G. Cooper's story of miracles and magic, THE FIRST.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2023A soft mystery with a nice ending.
Kinda gets into faith in God & heaven which is ok. Not too maudlin, but moved in that direction. Some action but more sentimental stuff than I usually like. Good story.
Easy read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2023Mr.Cooper has an amazing style and way of making the reader feel so many emotions as they read this book. Miracles, God, love. All of it real or assumed? I believe... Real. Thank You Marine for a truly great book!

4.0 out of 5 stars miracles
This is so different from the author’s other books. It is more like a romantic novel.
It tells a story in two different eras about finding love and commitment to helping others and has a happy ending.
I am not sure I want this from C G Cooper but a good effort.
