4.5 out of 5 stars 155 ratings

A teenage pact. A dangerous deception. A woman who could ruin it all.

Deception. Lies. Corruption.

I was innocent once. Not today.

My carefree days vanished the night my best friend was kidnapped, and my world fell apart.

I built it up again, weaving a web of deceit.

Now I survive in the shadows, surrounded by danger.

Watching over her.

My best friend’s sister.

Isabella.

A woman who burns me alive even from afar. She doesn’t know how my heart longs for her. She doesn’t even know I exist.

A pact from my childhood has been rekindled.

And she is in the center of it all.

I must keep my distance, remain out of sight. But I can’t seem to let her go.

She’s my world even when I have none.

In this life of ghosts, how can I give her a future when I am nothing but a Mocking Man?

***This series is a romantic suspense duet. Book 1 is Alex's story, and Book 2 is Rafael's story. While each can be read as a stand-alone, events in book 1 lead to events in book 2. I loved this book from the first page and I couldn’t stop reading until I finished it. In my opinion that is what good stories do, they capture our attention and don’t let us go until we are satisfied and happy.
“The Mocking Man” written by Leslie Georgeson is the first book in a romantic suspense duet. It tells the story of Alex and Rafael from Alex’s perspective. Alex and Rafe forged a strong bond when they were teenagers. That friendship forced Alex to take action into his own hands when Rafe was kidnapped. Now, he lives in the shadows helping Rafe and keeping Isabella, Rafe’s sister, safe. Will the Mocking Man be able to give love a chance?
This novel has all the ingredients to be absorving: romance, suspense, family and friendship issues and controversial and sensitive matters such as drug dealing and human trafficking. The characters are well-developed, and the descriptions and dialogues are exceptional. I strongly recommend it. Don’t miss it!

Author Leslie Georgeson tells the story of two teenage friends, Alex and Rafe, who made a pact to rely solely on one another to survive. As the years pass, they keep this promise, that is, until Rafe is kidnapped. Alex tries to keep the pact, but finds it to be very difficult. In addition to this, he feels an obligation to secretly guard his friend’s sister from potential danger. However, she soon finds out and becomes part of the pact, much to Alex’s distress. Alex must try to help Rafe while figuring out what to do with his sister.

If you enjoy romantic suspense novels, you might want to check this one out. Not only is it filled with steamy scenes, but intense plot twists. Keep in mind though that there is a bit of adult content. Overall, definitely consider reading this book if you enjoy romance or just want something unique to read.

The Mocking Man (The Pact Book 1) by Leslie Georgeson is a really well-written suspense/romance. It's hard to find writers who can swap multiple perspectives without losing the flow of the story as seamlessly as Georgeson does. The protagonists are both Alex and Isabel, but Rafe plays a big part, too (apparently his story is coming in the next book - definitely read this one first!). Alex and Rafe are childhood best friends with a pact to always have each other's back. But Rafe is kidnapped by his father, who just happens to be the scariest head of one of the biggest drug cartels around. There's no going back once you're in, but Alex entrenches himself in deep and never gives up. But one day Isabel, Rafe's estranged sister, finds out about her brother. Her life is now in danger, and only the Mocking Man can help her survive once her father gets her on his radar. I look forward to reading the next one!

Leslie Georgeson is the writer of this 2-part, romantic suspense novel. In her book, she shows us how talented she is as she is able to immerse us into this hard-to-put-down novel.
Throughout the 370 pages that there are in this book, the author lets us enter this twisted world where two friends' lives are joined together forever, specially after one of these friends have been kidnapped.
Georgeson is excellent in describing the settings, the situations and in making us feel that we actually know the characters. The story is easy-to-follow but it is recommended to read the second part of this novel so as to get a better understanding of the incidents.
As the author mentions, this book should not be read by children since it contains colourful language and controversial topics. However, adults will definitely enjoy this novel. It’s a great story to read in a week or so and to have a break from our daily routines.

Thank you, Leslie Georgeson. Great work :)

This was a great read. I wanted to give it 5 stars, but the readers were cheated out of the mothers and sons reunion. I was really looking forward to that part and it didn’t happen!

PLOT: Izzy is an Assistant District Attorney. She does her job very well. She is informed about a brother that she never knew existed (Rafe). Rafe is in jail when they meet and when she went to visit him, it started a chain of events and opened a can of worms…Dangerous worms.

Rafe who had been keeping a watch over Izzy, ever since he found out about her, tells her to make contact with: “The Mocking Man”, in the event of an emergency, because while he is in jail, he could no longer watch over her nor protect her.

One night out of curiosity, Izzy makes contact with The Mocking Man and he takes her on a series of tests. The Mocking Man is very good at what he does and no one ever suspects, because he’s a brilliant actor.

However, Rafe and Alex who long for a simpler life and to just be free, have to accomplish the impossible. Which is to get rid of Alvarez (Rafe and Izzy’s corrupt father), so that their entire families can be free.

CONS: Initial sex scene was wayyyy too long!

I had to keep so many characters straight for this action filled story. It was sad and gruesome but really does happen in real life. It was a well told story because I was able to go along with it. And love was truly great between lovers, siblings, friends and parents.

“Now my entire life is a web of deceit. My every breath is tainted by lies. I don’t like what I’ve become. But it’s essential for my very survival.”

Even from the very start, it is evident that the readers are in for something rather sensational and unputdownable. “The Mocking Man” by Leslie Georgeson is the first of two books in The Pact duet and as such, a good part of the book was devoted to laying the foundation for the plot and the character-building. I could say more but I’d rather not spoil it so I’ll leave it at this---it draws you in and leaves you wanting more.
