This is the weirdest book I have ever finished. I thought about not finishing it several times, but somehow I had to finish it. A few times I laughed out loud, and groaned and rolled my eyes! I have to admit I really did laugh a lot. Would I recommend it? Probably not, unless you're ready for an unbelievable goofy story and ready to laugh!

This was one of the best Konrath books that I’ve read. It combines all of my favorite characters with some new and old villains, tying in storylines from almost all of his other books and also setting things up for multiple future books. This one kept me guessing until the end- and almost in a panic the entire time.

I guess I should start this review by saying that I read everything that comes out under Konrath/Kilborn hoping to rekindle the excitement I felt reading what he originally put out for Jack Daniels, with Blake Crouch, and his first forays
    as Kilborn.

It’s not that I didn’t enjoy this novel….BUT…. It’s just not as good.

It was a fun read though. a love letter to all our favorite characters. It is also an awesome concept for a story and the new characters that he created were the best part of that story. Here is the big but… it felt like it was lacking… it felt like a rehash.

It was kinda like how I felt watching all the new Halloween movies/sequels like the latest Halloween Kills. You know that nothing will live up to the original, it just won’t (although Halloween II was a good try). So now fans of the Carpenter movie head out to the movie theatre to watch a rehash of Halloween. Is it cool to revisit the lore of Michael Myers? Is it neat that they included Tommy all grown up and brought back all the originals: Kyle Richards, Charles Cyphers, Nancy Stephens, and cameos by Nick Castle and Donald Pleasance? Sure… but there isn’t anything new to see. It is what it is… a fan film.

That’s how I felt about “The Nine”. It just felt like something I read before. This will be a book that fans of Konrath will love conceptually, but I do think in terms of the overall universe that Konrath created, it will be easily forgettable.

I've read lots of JA Konrath books over the years. Mostly because they're always super fun. But this one?!? This feels like there was some other co-author. It's gritty, scary, and LOL funny af!! As another reviewer describes - "it feels like a combination of Carl Hiaason and Thomas Harris". I usually read at night to help me sleep. This book did not help. It's very difficult to fall back to sleep after busting a gut laughing! Thank you, JAK.

Spoiler Alert: The paragraph about "Lincoln's Log" at the end almost made me wake up the house laughing. =D

"The Nine" is a sequel to "The List", which is probably one my top 5 books of all time. Although you'll find plenty of humor in this book along with some of the characters you loved in "The List", the novel just doesn't live up to its predecessor. As some of the 1-star reviews have pointed out, I, too, was a little annoyed that the book was unavailable as its listed publish date came and went over a year ago without an explanation by the author, who doesn't seem to be interested in communicating to his fans and potential book customers. (His "Author's Update" page on Amazon hasn't been updated in over 2 years.) However, that annoyance is not reflected in my rating for this book. The author honestly has usually delivered some very good, sometimes great stories. But "What Happened to Lori" and "The Nine" are probably 2 of his that i would recommend avoiding.

Many months back I opened what I thought was THE NINE only to find out there had been some type of screw up with the publisher and it was only the cover. Fortunately, the next time I opened THE NINE it was complete and complete it I did. It was absolutely AWESOME to have all my favorite characters brought together to save the world (again). It also tied in many of the past books from Konrath that were on my top reading list. If you're a fan of humor mixed with horror mixed with action then you'll love this book. If you're a Harry fan you'll love this book. If you're just a fan of far-fetched, that could never happen in a zillion years, how the heck are they so witty while their lives are at stake reading, you'll love this book. The best part of it, it lays the groundwork for the next couple of books that I'll be eagerly awaiting.

As a fan of The List, this became a HUGE disappointment for me. There were interesting ideas, but the ongoing obnoxious humor was so mind numbing that I was wanting to throw the book out the window like Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook. Konrath's work has always had humor in them but he always had the right balance and it came off casual. With this novel, he just seems to be auditioning for a writer's job for SNL rather than staying with the nice balance that he has in the past. There's even eight pages dedicated to a single joke. EIGHT PAGES!!! WHY?!?!
About 200 pages in, I had to tap out. I still respect the author but I can't help but feel he was entertaining himself rather than focusing on entertaining the reader this time around. I was looking forward to his upcoming Origin sequel, Second Coming, but if this is the style he's possibly going for with upcoming work, I may have to skip that one altogether. 🙍

The whole gang are back together and for some reason they take a loony composer clone on there latest adventure. Mu the talking banana is at war with bub, and stosh the doorknob wreaking dodo finds love with a turkey named abigail . Usual madcap konrath. Always entertaining.

I love konraths work and this is no exception, he brings all the characters from his previous books back in this mash up and so worth it.

My favourite author, the 2 Lori books are my favourite reads ever. This feels rushed, it's boring, it's a struggle. Never had this with a konrath book before. Dont care about the characters anymore. Pull it together for the next one mate!
