The Power of Three: A K9 Thriller Where a Global Hunt for Justice Turns Deadly (Rex Dalton K9 Thrillers Book 1) Kindle Edition
On a critical mission to Afghanistan to investigate the opium trade, Rex Dalton stumbles across spine-chilling deceit and corruption that snakes through the highest echelons of power in Afghanistan, America, and Europe.
When urgent requests to his superiors to eradicate the drug empire fall on deaf ears, Dalton, with his military dog, Digger, at his side, takes matters into his own hands, stirring up a hornet's nest so deadly that even he, one of the world’s most lethal assassins, might not survive.
Dalton and Digger’s fight for justice began in The Fulcrum, the prequel to the Rex Dalton K9 Thrillers series, where their partnership was forged in blood and betrayal. Now, in The Power of Three, the battle continues—deadlier than ever.
The Power of Three is the pulse-pounding first installment in JC Ryan’s electrifying Rex Dalton K9 Thrillers series.

Sheila LS - Top Contributor. Can't Read This Series Fast Enough!! I had no idea these books were so good when I first started or I would not have already downloaded other Kindle Unlimited books... I haven't read any series as exciting as Ty Patterson's Warrior series until now.
You really need to start reading this series from the beginning because what happened to Rex in this first book is what made him the way he is. He is a very determined person and does not stop at anything to take down the bad guys--especially if they are terrorist or if it is a group that is funding terrorist. Even though this is his main mindset, he still wants to protect the innocent that inadvertently get in the way...
Texas - This author belongs on the same shelf as Ludlum and Follette and those other guys! My first read by this author and I couldn't put the book down! Mesmerized by the writing style, the vivid descriptions and the storylines, I read without stopping. Fast paced, action packed and interesting on several facets.
Margaret Bentley - I love reading about Rex Dalton's exploits, but my favorite character has to be Digger, his military-trained super-intelligent dog.
Greg D - Rex Dalton was the deadliest agent the government had at their disposal- a one-man unstoppable force in the war on terrorism in the Middle East. With his famous ability to pick up new languages with ease, he figures he can blend into almost any culture and root out evil. What could go wrong? Well, it turns out, plenty.
E. I. HOOD - I was not a fan of the first Rex Dalton book but plunged ahead with the second hoping JC Ryan would not disappoint. I loved it. Now here I am after reading the third book in this series. I had a hard time putting it down and found myself wondering about it when I was not reading.
40 year pioneer - Each book in this series gets even better. This has a fascinating, even though hard to fathom, plot, worked out in intricate detail. Rex Dalton is a mirror of all of us - overcoming seemingly overwhelming odds to achieve great things.
Kindle Customer - From a master storyteller comes another thrilling ride by Rex Dalton. From the sands of Afghanistan to the culture of India the story moves at a breathless pace. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.
Kindle Customer - Rex Dalton rocks! Another great read from JC Ryan. I've read all of his books and am never disappointed! All I can say is....MORE!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2021The Power of Three, the second in the Rex Dalton thriller series, has me eager to continue on to book three.
This second book details the bonding between Rex and Digger, the fearless and intelligent canine, whose abilities complement those of Rex in his quest to destroy terrorists and those who enable them.
J C Ryan is an excellent writer who goes into a lot of detail but doesn’t bore the reader. The Rex Dalton series is fast paced and entertaining.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2021The Power of Three picks up right where The Fulcrum, Book 1 on the Rex Dalton Thriller series leaves off, so go back and read The Fulcrum if you haven’t already read it. Although it can be read as a novel in its own right, The Fulcrum is more a prequel to the complete Rex Dalton Thriller Series. In it, we meet and learn about many of the characters that will come to play key roles in all the future Dalton thrillers. We learn about the pivotal event that turns a meek, mild future Foreign Officer into the deadly, expert assassin that Rex becomes. Although Ryan weaves enough of this back story into each of the future books so they can be read and enjoyed in any order, it’s nice to have the whole backstory going into the series and to discover it as it happens in present time.
The Power of Three begins when Rex is sent to Afghanistan on a fact finding mission. He is to gather information on the drug trade and then report that information to the CRC and the CIA, but take no action against them. When nothing seems to happen with the information he provides, he teams up with his Aussie friend and his K-9 Digger to take out some targets on his own. When the DCIA (Director CIA) gets wind of this, he gets “The Old Man, the head of the CRC, to send Rex on a fake mission that is an ambush that gets Rex’s entire team killed. They killed everyone except for Rex and Digger. With his last dying breath, Trevor makes Rex swear to take care of Digger. Rex and Digger become a team, partners, although reluctant partners at the start because of Rex’s childhood fear of dogs. Rex learns to overcome his fears and they become true partners, best friend, friends who would willingly die to protect the other.
Rex and Digger take on new missions. First, to track down and kill all those that were directly involved in the ambush that caused the death of their friend. Rex knows that he was set up, so he fakes his own death and goes underground, swearing to track down and kill all those responsible for it in the United States, and to kill them very painfully, no matter how long it takes.
Once again, Rex finds himself all alone in the world, just as he had eleven years earlier, when his entire family was killed in a terrorist bombing. He has no one left to care about or to care about him, except for Digger. This time it is even worse because there’s nothing for him to join in order to fight back. No military, no spec ops group. Even worse still, he has to country to return to.
While Rex contemplates his and Digger’s future after they track down and take out the drug lords that ordered the ambush that killed all their friends, “The Old Man” gives the DCIA, Carlson, an alternative, leave town by sundown or be killed for being a traitor, for getting eight good men killed to protect his interest in the drug trade. Does he leave town? Does he stay and fight back? Is he killed? You’ll have to read this book to find out.
This installment in the Rex and Digger saga ends with Rex planning to start a new life with Digger in India. A life that doesn’t involve terrorists and death. Will they be able to find such a life? You’ll need to read this series to find out what happens to Rex and Digger, to find out what the future holds in store for them.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2024I really wanted to give 3 1/2 stars. The first half of the book was engaging. Unlike the first book in this series, the author stuck to one plot story. Unfortunately, he lost momentum and the main character was relegated to a tedious and uninspiring escape from Afghanistan, while his boss went after the traitors. I feel like the author however is getting better and I will check out the next book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Edge of the seat stuff!
This is the first I have read of this author and I am asking myself how it is that I have not heard or read him before now. Rex Dalton is the main character in this story although others may say that Digger, the Military dog that becomes Rex’s companion and associate is the main character. As a result of betrayal by those in power back in the USA, Rex and his team are lead into an ambush in Afghanistan and Rex and Digger are lucky to survive. That is unlucky for the local Taliban that have played a part in the ambush, and also leads to a change of fortune for some of the traitors in the US.
I read a lot on my Kindle and this story is one of those that I found it impossible to put down, stealing moments whenever I could to find out what the next scenario will be. I am so impressed that I have now purchased the next story in this series – Unchained, and have also downloaded the free short story offered by the author – No Doubt. I look forward to getting in to these two stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rex And Digger
Having now read the first two books in this series by JC RYAN, I can now say that I have thoroughly enjoyed them and would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys suspense thrillers. There is a lot to be learned about crooked Government and the Opium trade in Third World countries, and you will learn it in these first 2 books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive reading
Involving read about how Rex came to be in partnership with Digger and the sad circumstances surrounding his story. I can't help thinking he brought some of it on himself by not sticking to his original intelligence gathering brief but there is no excuse for the corruption enabling the drug traffickers and his moral standards cannot be entirely to blame. He now has to think of Digger as a partner in his quest for revenge on the people he blames for the betrayal, Carson had better cover his tracks well and even Rex's boss Brandt is under suspicion till proven innocent. I have books 4 to 6 to read now to follow him into the next episode in his career as a solo agent on a quest, luckily he has the drug lord's fortune to back him up
