Vicky Whedbee was born and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida, where she resided until her 40's when she relocated to San Mateo, Florida, where she currently resides. An avid reader, she wrote her first novel over a period of years as a labor of love and fulfillment of a life long dream that began with the encouragement of her English teacher in high school.

With a diagnosis of cancer for her dad, she decided to become an independent author and published her novel on her own in order to present a finished product to her father before his demise. She was in the process of reading said novel, "Things He Hadn't Told Her", to him at the time of his passing.

She wrote her second novel "Sarah's Song", which was a collaboration with her father set in the time of his childhood in the rural Appalachian mountains, with notes taken prior to his demise. Both books have been met with stellar 5-STAR reviews on Amazon & Goodreads, as well as awarded the 5-star review seal from Reader's Favorite.

After numerous requests, she wrote a sequel to Sarah's Song, titled Sarah's Home, which could also be read as a stand-alone. It, too, is being received with love and 5-STAR reviews.

She is currently working on her next novel.

Chad Edwards saved Cole Rivers' life one day when he pulled him from a flood-swollen and dangerous river. Since that time, Chad has been looking out for Cole, making sure he doesn't flunk his classes and get tossed off the football team. Quietly making sure his reputation isn't ruined. Cole is destined for greatness, a star quarterback in High School who goes on to QB the Tennessee Vols in college. Chad, who wants to go into sports medicine, follows him there and continues to keep Cole out of trouble. It seems that nothing could come between these two friends.

    Except, perhaps, Maggie.

Beautiful, talented, compassionate, and full of life, Maggie is perfect. And Chad quickly falls for her. But Maggie falls for Cole. Devastated, Chad has to decide whether to keep his true feelings secret, hurt the two people he loves best, or quietly fade away.

    Content:
    Drug Content:
G - There is a little casual drinking in a few places.

    Violence:
PG - Tragic accidents leave people somewhat mangled. There is no intentional harm done here. No graphic descriptions either.

    Language:
PG - There are a few scattered mild expletives.

    Adult Content:
G - There is romance and some kissing.

    Christian content:
The characters in this book struggle with where God is in their suffering, but remain steadfast in their faith. Church attendance is encouraged, and nightly prayers with the family are present occasionally. Prayer for healing and safety are not uncommon. Discussion is made about people being in heaven when they die. The raw conflict, self-sacrifice, and ensuing depth of character in the protagonist are stunning.

    Final analysis:
Things He Hadn't Told Her by Vicky Whedbee is a heartwarming tale of unrequited love. The characters have tragic real-life struggles and deal with them in a faith-filled and realistic way. The settings are immersive, and the dialogue engaging. The author has a talent for drawing on common emotional situations, and depicting them well enough to bring even an old granddad like me to tears. This book covers multiple years of interaction with the main characters. During the first half of the novel, the level of detail in the interactions and experiences of the characters was a bit overwhelming, but it set a gorgeous backdrop for the back half of the story when things really took off. I was well satisfied with the end and thought Vicky Whedbee did an excellent job carrying the reader through. Good plot, excellent characters, raw emotions, and a heartwarming conclusion. Five Stars!

This book is a page-turner. It is ‘feel-good’, heart-breaking and heart-mending, and most of all heart-warming!

The characters and their arc of progressions in the tale are so realistic and they effectively resonate to anyone and everyone.

The plot is cohesively interwoven in the natural turn of events: starting from Chad and Cole's childhood, their friendship and adventures; their closely knit neighborhood and family; navigating to their young adulthood and college life; of finding special someone and a ‘love triangle’ and eventually marriage and wedding and finding a life career up to building a family and having kids and down to the acceptance of untoward events and grief and that life must continue and go on.

This is the kind of book that while I am reading and good things are happening yet at the back of my mind, I keep my guard on and am bracing myself for the eventual shift!

All the characters from start to finish are inspiring! And the progression of the tale is well - distributed to the book's length and pages.

I appreciate this book because it reminds me that life and living in this world is a gift and is short and must be lived to the fullest everyday with gratitude like what the character of Cole is manifesting, same for Chad who has an enduring heart for what life is tossing him and Maggie who has a big heart. It fortifies that family and friends are lifesavers! And children are natural healers similar to time and space! The kid - 'Car' character is so loveable!

This book resonates that loving and love are powerful feelings it begets and saves life! And as love is one of the most potent feelings of human experience, people will never get tired of learning, exploring and reading them!

This is a very heartwarming book that I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. Without giving away any spoilers, as I try not to do that in any of my reviews, I will honestly say that this book should be read by anyone dealing with loss. It is also a book about love and how sometimes sacrifices are made when this happens. The characters of Maggie, Chad & Cole are well drawn, especially Chad who is struggling with the age-old difficulty of forbidden love, not so in the familial sense but in a way where it is impossible to act upon it due to other circumstances.
I have not read any of this author’s previous work and was well pleased with the result of this one. A well deserved five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars An emotive and well written story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 6, 2024
This is the first book I’ve read by Vicky Whedbee and I found it to be thoroughly enjoyable. It is one of those books you just have to keep reading in order to find out in which direction the plot will take you next. The Prologue had me hooked, when a life-or-death situation when the two boys were children bonds them even closer together. That closeness continues through their university days and into adulthood.

Chad is always the studious one, with aspirations of a career in medicine, whereas Cole – a star player in the college football team – can think of little else than a life in professional football. Consequently, his college studies are sadly neglected and he relies on his clever friend to help him with assignments and swotting for exams. And Chad’s help is willingly given.

It is while Chad and Cole were celebrating Chad’s birthday with a beer and a meal at the Old College Inn that Maggie walks in, wanting to sign up for the karaoke. From then on, the beautiful and caring Maggie becomes a part of their lives and neither Chad nor Cole could prevent themselves from falling in love with her. But only one of them captures her heart.

The plot moved steadily along, evoking a number of different emotions. Love, joy and happiness, grief and loss are alternately uplifting and tear jerking. The main characters are well drawn and continue to develop throughout the ups and downs of their story.

In summary, Things He Hadn’t Told Her is a well-written, emotive and thought-provoking read. It would appeal to readers of Romance novels, as well as to readers who simply love a good story.

This is the second book I have read by this author and it did not disappoint. I loved the Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer vibe given by Chad and Cole during their youth. A great tale of friendship, love, and growing pains. I hope to see more from this author very soon.

This is the first book I have read by this author. I saw a post on social media and was drawn in by the blurb as I do love a romance- thank goodness I downloaded it as I absolutely loved it! First of all, Mr Whedbee can definitely tell a story. The plot is enhanced by the excellent characterisation of the main players. I loved their interactions which brought the story alive. I experienced lots of emotions while reading the book - I found myself rooting for each of them throughout desperately trying to get to the end to see what happened. This is such a good book to read , don’t miss it whatever you do!
