I started reading this book not knowing what to expect. The tone and style was unique. As I got through Chapter One I was going to chuck it in, not really enjoying the one sided conversation. I am so glad I stuck it out. You can tell that the writer had some previous psychological background. I was blown away with Claire’s take on life. The stoic attitude a definite result in her own upbringing but it was so much more. I definitely need to read again just to memorize some of Claire’s philosophy. I am a big fan of Emma Nichols.

Oh my goodness what a deep read. It was overwhelming and not easy to follow. I had difficulty following the point of view for the characters. I do believe it was one person telling a story but I got lost in the angst of it all. I think it was a story about overcoming pain to get to the love between the characters. Too much psycho analysis for me

I found this book confusing and unlike anything I had read before. The words and there use by the author were good as a work of literature but I was left feeling as though I had missed something. I will try reading another novel by this author but this one was disappointing.

THIS IS A STORY TO LOVE. I absolutely love the pros style and timbre of the story. The characters are of pain and passion. Determined to fulfill their destiny as soul mates but not at any cost, only with a rightness that coalesced the Me and You, into Us. I love love love this book. This author is now on my radar. Fam, this is one I highly recommend. Happy Reading

I am a huge Emma Nichols fan. This book is different than her usual fare but I found it mesmerizing. Her observational gems are spot on and somewhat shattering. Love does end up winning when trust and patience is the only rock in which to grasp.

I’m conflicted with the amount and strength of the emotions and energy displayed by these women. I read it twice to be able to absorb it all. Definitely a good read! Peace

This is something so different from this author's previous works and would have to say it may be her best yet! A well written book is a true art form and this one is a masterpiece. The story is told for the most part through the thoughts of Claire. It is very difficult to review something so profoundly poetic and beautiful. I shared Claire's most intimate thoughts with her and understood her love for Justine. The story of their lives together was powerful and very emotive. It left me awestruck that words could have such an impact on me. This novella is something to be read and savored. Please get it and read it! I cannot thank Emma Nichols enough for sharing this story. It will stay with me for a long, long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is Me…….This is Exceptional!

Just when you think you have a handle on what Emma Nichols is capable of  she goes and reinvents herself again and hits you with ‘This is Me, which is an utterly exceptional and unique piece of literature. Without a doubt Emma can craft a plot that leaves you wanting more.

This is Me will take you on an unforgiving no holds barred journey of absolute raw emotion. For me it captures the essence of true love.

Ms Nichols is not one to shy away from uncomfortable topics, This is Me makes you stop, think and reflect, for me that is the mark of a truly remarkable book. This book captivates you from the first page and will leave you breathless. It is a book full of emotion and truly brilliant lines, one of my favorites (there were many!) ‘You stared at me with sadness that ran so deep it must have journeyed through generations’.

This book will  live with you for a long time and leaves the question what can we expect from Emma next?

4.0 out of 5 stars Will you trust what Claire tells you?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 6, 2019
This was excellent fiction, but it didn't strike me as being a romance – 4 Stars

Beginning from her first encounter with therapist, Justine, this is Claire’s story of the highs and lows in their relationship. The most fascinating aspect of this book for me, was the more I read, the more I questioned whether I could trust any of what Claire was saying. Less than half-way through the book, I was leaning towards the belief that Claire and snafu belonged together, whereas Claire and Justine possibly never had.

This is brilliantly written, leaving it up to the reader to decide on their personal response to Claire’s tale. At one end of the spectrum you might decide that she has indeed experienced her relationship with Justine exactly as she recounts it, on the other hand, you might conclude that she’s still in her first session with Justine, and this is all imagination. Or, maybe not even that is true, and she’s simply sitting on a park bench in the rain. Realist, or delusional? ‘This is Me’ poses a mouth-wateringly good conundrum.

Emma Nichols never disappoints with regards to her books, and this one is compulsive reading, but neither the synopsis, nor the ‘Lesbian Romance’ tag, sit well with my impression of it. Marketed simply as psychological fiction (I don’t even think the fact the main character is a lesbian actually matters in this case); this would have got a 5-Star rating from me. Picky? Semantics? Maybe, but this really didn't strike me as a romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lesfic that's so much more than romance.

This is me by Emma Nichols is exceptional. It's lesfic but the character development and use of language are superb. The psychological insights and struggles in the relationship feel real and give the story real depth. We need more books like this.

Really interesting read an exploration of the heads and hearts of the two main characters. Both impacted on so much by the experiences of their childhoods and trying to push on regardless, love does conquer all here through the journey of confusion . This has left me thinking about relationships and the commitment of takes.to stay together and work through the baggage each carries . Uncomfortable at times but worth it . I highly recommend.

At first I didn't think I would be able to get into this story, it is deep and meaningful. It covers all the doubt about a relationship, but in the end true love shines through. I would recommend reading it if you doubt yourself. Acceptance of the other is so important.
