Undoing Time: Timegathering Book 3 (The Timegathering Series) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 89 ratings

Liv thinks of her time travel quirk as something handy when she’s running late, but she discovers it might just save America’s War of Independence.

One thing her time traveling can’t do is erase her fiance’s unfaithfulness. Where better to heal a broken heart than beautiful Italy, so Liv breaks her engagement and goes off for a summer of visiting her cousin in Florence. She’s shocked to find her cousin May has the same time quirk and belongs to a team of time-travelers. They’re battling foes from the future who want to distort history for power and profit. The team invites her to join and she goes on a few practice trips.

Then comes her first assignment. Now she more to worry about than heartbreak. She has to save American history. Liv summons her courage to travel back to the 18th century to help a woman artist in London who’s spying for the Revolution.

Unfortunately, Liv has to be escorted through time by a team member who’s uber-charming, but majorly condescending. If only the sparks weren’t flying between them! Tom flirts with Liv, but doubts that she has the right stuff. Liv vows to prove him Mr. Wrong in every way. Unfortunately, as they reach their destination, Liv realizes Tom may be in league with the British.

Now it’s not only her heart, but American liberty at stake.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A woman hones her ability to hop to other centuries in Rachel Dacus' hugely entertaining UNDOING TIME, the third installment in the Timegathering series, which can be read as a standalone. An adventurous romp about preserving democracy and protecting history from treacherous futuristic scientists, Dacus's story is both timely and full of surprising twists. After a horrific breakup, Liv Pomeroy heads to picturesque Florence, Italy, where she uncovers her genetic disposition for time traveling, meets the potential new love of her life, and joins a dangerous mission involving the Revolutionary War. Featuring real-life forgotten sculptor Patience Lovell Wright, Dacus' elegantly descriptive, upbeat, and imaginative novel is sure to enchant and intrigue fans of both light sci-fi and historical fiction."

About the Author

I write time travel and women's fiction, as well as poetry. I'm interested in art, history, and a woman's journey of self-discovery. My stories always have a touch of fantasy and romance. I've published four novels, four poetry collections, and I'm working on a fifth novel in my time travel series. Writing keeps me curious, interested in life and relationships, and connected to the world around me. History fascinates me, and I like folding the centuries together in magical ways.

Rachel Dacus is the author of seven novels and four poetry books. She writes about people who have the courage to love truly, dream their art, and aspire to improve their worlds. Her books feature women who brave conventions and dare to do the impossible.

The TIMEGATHERING SERIES propels modern-day characters into history to meet and help real historical figures, creating bonds and even love across the centuries. Each book is a standalone, and all are linked by a mysterious time travel tour guide, George St. James.

THE INVISIBLES is a family saga set on the beautiful coast of Italy, in cottage that's gently haunted by the spirit of a Romantic Era poet. The trilogy takes members of the Greene family through heartbreak, healing, and redemption, unknotting feuds and reclaiming lost siblings. Each book is a standalone story, though readers may prefer to read in sequence.

Readers say:

“Riveted from the start … well-plotted, character-driven novel.”

"“Rachel Dacus deftly crafts a unique and spellbinding twist to the time-traveling adventure."

"Her poetry sings and celebrates the body and spirit in form and function, freedom and flight."

She’s happiest reading, listening to music, growing roses, and walking in the foothills of the San Francisco Bay Area with her Silky Terrier and architect husband.

I enjoyed the the deep feelings that were expressed to the reader but not necessarily to the characters themselves. For example liv would be thinking and accessing her thoughts about her feelings to herself and not saying them out loud that related to the interaction between Tom and her to be interesting because her true feelings are known to the reader. I was hoping the book would be longer and for me it ended way too soon.
Is it possible that maybe Rachel could continue on with the same book having the same characters but have more interaction with her characters and include more episodes and stories? I hope so!
I loved the book. Thank you

Good, a little on the tame side and the actual romance is minimal. The world building and history is great though, so if you love historical books and time travel novels this is for you. I was a fan of Liv’s character because she made no apologies for who she was, privilege or not, but felt Tom was honestly lacking overall as her romantic match. The whole judging someone who comes from privilege is overdone, especially when they do not act that way. This book was fun, but a little lackluster in action. I received it as an ARC and am leaving my honest review.

I've read the other books in this series and I think this one fits right in. I love to read about time travel, and this author's perspective on it is charming and fun. I particularly loved how the characters changed their clothing to fit the time they traveled to. It was fun to see how Liv would be dressed when she went to the various places and times. My favorite time was the American Revolution. I loved Patience Wright, the sculptor who was also a spy. It was fun to know she was a real person. I recommend this book for people who want to escape from the current world problems and relax into different times. And then there's the love angle. So charming!

This is the third book I’ve read by Rachel Dacus in her Timegathering Series. I always enjoy the way she magically combines the past, present, and future. I love that the “present” in this book takes place in Florence, Italy and that some of the “past” takes place in California.
I was thrilled that the story introduced me to Patience Wright, a Colonial-American sculptor I’d never heard of. What a resourceful and delightfully eccentric woman! I also love how the story addresses the struggle between “preserving” and “fixing” history—a hot topic these days.

This return to the world of George St. James and his team of timegatherers was a delightful read with characters that actually existed along with their impact on history. The protagonist isn’t sure of her own skills and is tried over and over. Several plot twists took me by surprise.

I’m looking forward to what comes next!

This was a different take on time travel

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Rachel spins a very colorful and evocative story. Well worth the read.

    However, be advised,

1:I think you SHOULD read the previous stories for context. There was a lot of background missing.

2: this is NOT a science fiction story. It is a romance novel with a science fiction backdrop. The science is not well developed, it is consistent, but just doesn’t feel completely solid.

Still and all, you should enjoy the story.

Charming characters reemerge and travel mainly into the past to delightful situations and locations. Then, around half way through the book adventure surfaces in early America and in the Civil War. Fascinating perspectives are dramatically explored and dangerous missions and moments successfully encountered. Enjoy!
