How the Other Half Loses Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 460 ratings

What could be better than a traditional family Christmas? For the Fletchers and the Kingstons, just about anything…

Christmas in the Scottish Highlands. It sounds idyllic, but if not for Billie and Arlo, neither family would choose to spend the most wonderful time of the year with the other.

With the Kingstons playing host, despite serious misgivings, the scene is set for a final family get-together. But beneath the festive glitter there's a distinct lack of Christmas spirit.

Billie's having serious doubts about her future, while Jason's in a race against time. Rafferty, meanwhile, is nursing a huge secret, Elizabeth is terrified hers is about to be revealed, and the only chestnuts Mona wants to see roasting on an open fire are Jason's.

Then Oscar arrives on the doorstep, freezing cold and lost. He's seeking refuge and, despite Mona's dire warnings that he could be a serial killer, the families welcome him in.

Little do they know that Oscar's arrival will be the spark that lights the touchpaper, and the lives of the Kingstons and the Fletchers are about to be changed forever.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Sharon Booth writes cosy romances, as warm and welcoming as a mug of hot chocolate, served in delicious, small-town settings, stirred with family relationships, close friendships, and tight-knit communities, and topped with a swirl of humour.

They're also available with a scoop of the supernatural, and/or sprinkles of magic and mystery!

Contemporary romance fans should check out the Kearton Bay, Skimmerdale, Home for Christmas, Bramblewick, Moorland Heroes, The Other Half, and Tuppenny Bridge series.

If magic and mystery is your thing, Sharon also has a series of non-spicy, light-hearted paranormal romances, The Witches of Castle Clair, which features the talented St Clairs, their quirky familiars, and quite a bit of cake. They offer lots of magical mishaps, family dramas, and new twists on myths and legends.

New for 2025! Ghosts of Rowan Vale is a brand-new series set in the stunning Cotswolds. Cosy contemporary romance with a dash of ghostly goings-on! Kindred Spirits at Harling Hall, the first in the series, is out now.

Sharon lives in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. When she's not writing she loves reading, visiting old castles, abbeys, and stately homes, watching Cary Grant films and old Ealing comedies, or researching her family tree. She loves horses, hares, and harbours, and admits to being shamefully prone to crushes on fictional heroes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing

What an heartfelt story. I'm glad I'm reading these before Tuppeny Bridge which I had read first pages and realised I wasn't clued up on the beginnings. Knowing these characters will help.

There is always a background to one's life and there can be happy endings.

5.0 out of 5 stars So many secrets!

What a lovely series of books this is. Once you get to know both families you easily get caught up in their lives.
Things are never as they seem and this story is proof of that. Sally and Jason's topsy turvy relationship is never short of drama but I am delighted that in the end Sally found the courage to make the right decision. Who would have thought that Elizabeth would be keeping so many secrets.
As with all families there are various members that are less popular than others, none more so than Ellis who seems to drift endlessly hopefully now that Beau has given him a lifeline he may actually make something of his life who knows.
Tuppenny Bridge I hope will become the next chapter in the lives of Sally and Rafferty plus I am sure new characters for us to get acquainted with.
Sharon Booth you have done it again - brilliant as usual.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant conclusion to a fantastic series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 8, 2022
After the Kingstons and Fletchers clashed on holiday in Part Two, spending Christmas together was never going to be a huge success but the families have little choice as this is the last chance to be together with Billie and Arlo before they emigrate.

With a beautiful mansion in the Scottish Highlands and extensive grounds to roam around to avoid each other, what could possibly go wrong? When heavy snow traps them inside, sparks fly. And then a young man and his dog turn up seeking shelter. Is he simply lost as he claims?

As with the other books in this wonderful series, we discover the action unfolding from several perspectives as this shapes up to be a Christmas none of them will forget.

A brilliant conclusion to a fantastic series.
