About the authors
Much like film noir, Justin Robinson was born and raised in Los Angeles. He splits his time between editing comic books, writing prose, and wondering what that disgusting smell is. Degrees in Anthropology and History prepared him for unemployment, but an obsession with horror fiction and a laundry list of phobias provided a more attractive option. He is the author of ten novels in a variety of genres including detective, humor, urban fantasy, and horror. Most of them are pretty good.
Mark Cusco Ailes is the author of several novels including The Day The Earth Cried and Zombie Park. He currently resides in Valparaiso, Indiana and often mentions his hometown in his books. His hobbies include meeting celebrities at conventions, reading, writing, and acting. He was the drummer for the 80s heavy metal band Latem. He was an extra in the movie Moon 44, and he has been in several stage plays. In the eighties he designed haunted houses in Stuttgart, West Germany three years in a row and won two awards for best design. He also has done several radio and television commercials.
Derek Ailes is a demented post-apocalyptic science fiction and horror author serving his readers one plateful of horrific terror after another. He is the mastermind behind several horror anthologies including Musings From A Demented Mind and Catfurnado, Zombies and One Killer Doll. He recently ventured into the vast superhero universe with his first comedy/horror novel The Undead Pool.
Derek openly admits that he is a nerd. He reads comic books and graphic novels along with watching every DC and Marvel television series, cartoon, and movie. His favorite series are Deadpool, X-men, The Avengers, Superman, Batman, Flash and The Justice League.
Derek resides in the small town of South Haven, Indiana where he cranks out one horrific tale after another. His neighbors both fear and respect him, because they don't know what horror madness he will unleash upon them. He spends his weekends hanging out with horror icons and promoting his work. He is currently working on his latest horror masterpiece.
The love of zombies was in my blood immediately after watching George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead at a far too young and inappropriate age. That feeling never faded, festering for forty years before that fever finally broke and beckoned me to write my own “Great American Zombie Novel”. One story became a second. Two stories became an ongoing series.
I love comic cons, cosplay, movies and television, guns, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the supernatural. I am a Detroit native, made my bones in the New York City area for many years, and currently reside in what the South Carolina locals call the Upstate with the two real loves of my life, my very own real-life Jude (Judy) and a certain fur baby canine named Holly—both straight off the pages of Day Zero universe.
A special thank you to my partner in crime and to everyone who chooses to support my work to ensure that my zombie universe doesn’t die a horrible death.
The Day Zero series can be found at bit.ly/dayzerozombies

Grivante writes strange, squishy horror with a grin—zombie tales that make you laugh, gag, and turn the page way past your bedtime. You might’ve seen him on the back of a milk carton in the '80s, but that was probably his twin brother, Bob. They still haven’t found him. Weird, right?
He's the twisted brain behind The Zee Brothers: Zombie Exterminators, a fast-paced, gut-busting series that slathers B-movie horror in buckets of comedy, action, and the occasional inappropriate innuendo. Think Army of Darkness meets Shaun of the Dead, with a dash of The Dukes of Hazzard for seasoning.
Fans of authors like David Wong (John Dies at the End), Jeff Strand, and Rick Gualtieri will feel right at home here—assuming “home” smells like cordite, wet dog, and day-old brains.
When he’s not busy dreaming up end-of-the-world scenarios, Grivante runs Grivante Press, publishing weird, wild speculative fiction that refuses to behave.

I write the type of post-apocalyptic books I also love to read. Everyday people in terrible situations. Uplifting plots while remaining realistic. EMPs, asteroid impacts, superweapons, and zombies. Think big-budget end-of-the-world adventure movies where you come out of the theater cheering, rather than crying.

Mike Peirce has been a musician and songwriter as well as a soldier in an African War, and private security agent. His "Red Dirt Zombies" trilogy started life as a musical and draws on his experiences in those other areas.
The TV show "The Walking Dead" shows the consequences of losing the war against the Zs. Peirce's books focus on the consequences of winning, addressing veteran’s issues such as PTSD, alienation and the impact of war on romantic relationships.
The “Red Dirt Zombies” series is available on Amazon in paperback or Kindle. "The General's Daughter" has recently been released and while it can stand alone it also falls on the RDZ timeline..
His non fiction memoir of music and mayhem, "African Days and Hollywood Nights" is now available on Amazon well as several short stories.
Peirce has stories in a number of anthologies with proceeds going to veterans organizations, primarily PTSD support. Additionally he has two novellas about a private military company (PMC) operating in Mexico.

Hey Survivor! My name is Sylvester Barzey and I am a best-selling horror and fantasy author. I grew up in the Bronx, NY, lived in the smallest state in the country for a while, and then transplanted to Lawrence, GA.
I’m a military veteran with an addiction to all things horror. My overall goal is to shine a spotlight on BIPOC characters within the horror/fantasy genre. From a young age, I was obsessed with horror movies, mostly Slashers. The mythos of the “Final Girl” trope was always something that appealed to me. The act of taking someone and watching them overcome the greatest odds to be the ultimate survivor has been a strong attraction to the horror for me.
But, what I didn’t realize growing up was all these survivors were White. Seeing only one type of person rise, builds blocks within people’s minds, it causes them to think that surviving is a trait only in one race, which is far from the truth. The Black community (Black Women for sure) has survival built into their DNA. History has shown us that overcoming great odds is something Black people have always done.
Being that I couldn’t find the final girls I was looking for (There are some don’t get me wrong and they are amazing), I set out to create them. I want to produce Black heroes who overcome world-shattering events and rise above them. My goal is for people to say Catherine Briggs’ name in the same breath as they say, Sidney Prescott and Laurie Strode. It’s my mission to change horror so that my children can look at it and see themselves as survivors.

Christopher Artinian was born and raised in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Wanting to escape life in a big city and concentrate more on working to live than living to work, he moved to the Outer Hebrides in the north-west of Scotland in 2004 and has lived there ever since with his wife and dogs.
He released his debut novel, Safe Haven: Rise of the Rams, in February 2017. This was the first instalment in a post-apocalyptic zombie series. Also available from Artinian, is the fast-paced, best-selling survival horror trilogy, “Relentless”, and the new post-apocalyptic/dystopian series, "The Burning Tree".

- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2017Undead Worlds does a spectacular job of highlighting a wide variety of zombie fiction ranging from the bleak despair of 'Alone Together' to the romantically sweet 'Fallen'. Many of the short stories feel like prequels but they stand alone, not requiring the reader to know the author's wider world. The truly good stories of the anthology do make you want to read more of that world.
Highlights of Undead World were:
Gone Fishin' by Justin Robinson - One of the few stories that was set in the post aspect of the zombie apocalypse, you get to see the start of a hopefully better world despite the vicious ashes caused by the end of the world. It also deserves a call out for being unapologetically violent but avoiding the easy exploitation, instead giving a needed catharsis. Also a call out for everyone who believes in dressing to look good - even when the world has gone on.
The Fort by Michael Whitehead - A truly historic zombie story set during the Roman rule of Gaul. One of the shorter stories, Whitehead gets you invested in his small band of returning Romans. They find themselves changed from overlords to outnumbered survivors in a matter of a single patrol, and you will want to see if they survive.
Defenseless by R. L. Blalock - One of the most perfectly paced short stories I've ever read. The story's protagonist and storyteller is six-year-old Dylan at the very start of the zombie apocalypse and Blalock manages to layer the horror to where you can not put the story down until you find out his fate.
When I Grow Up, I Won't Be by Brea Behn - Take a smart and scrappy heroine that has already managed to survive in a world overtaken by zombie despite proven weakness and you find yourself rooting for her in the first few pages. Then she gets blindsided by hope, but you still want to find out where she ends up.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2025Fun collection of stories!! Some I really enjoyed and took note of to read their other books and done I had to flip through quickly. One or two stories I had no idea what was happening!! 😬
This is a good way to read different stories!!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2018Like all anthologies, it's a bit of a mixed bag. There are stories that I absolutely loved and want to read more about, and others that were a bit lackluster.
There are more than a few stories that are written weirdly and could use some editing. What tripped me up the most is that the sound effects in one story is written out which interrupts the flow of reading. "Rrrggh" or "Ahh" often appears without an exclamation point at the end which, in my head, makes it seem like the character made a dispassionate noise. As you continue reading you find out that the character was supposed to be shouting or screaming. It's a small, nitpicky thing but it broke my story immersion enough that it started to bother me.
A lot of the stories are side stories or intros to a longer zombie series, and the end of each chapter lets you know this which I really appreciated! Also, seeing so many takes on a zombie apocalypse from different perspectives was really fun! This book is a great as a sampler for other potential zombie reads/authors you may want to check out.

I read all 22 stories and I was on the edge of my seat. Would they get bit, would they survive, would they die??? Omg why did this story end?? I can see the book coming out next!!
I knew some authors in book and got to meet more. This is such a great way to experience an author. I was able to enjoy all stories even though I wanted more on some and others I was happy with ending. I highly recommend this book! What better way to find out if someone is alive, dead, or undead!! Enjoy the Apocalypse World like never before!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2017The stories vary widely in the quality of the writing and editing. Overall, it's a great way to be introduced to many different authors and their worlds. Any zombie fiction reader will find one or two authors to add to their shelves and a few others that are in the "never need to read again" category. Most stories have at least one good aspect: Entertaining plot, interesting twist, good characters, or strong writing, making it worth the read.

I was gifted a copy of this book while waiting for my pre-oredered e-book to arrive.
There is something for everyone in this collections, from zombie clowns to a bazaar festival.A few of my favorite short stories were, 1) By David Simpson, Alone together. Even a lone NG can lose youself a in the music... if you are lucky you may just find a way out.2.) By Christopher Mahood, The Festival, a unique twisted practice. Last but not least 3.) By Grivante Zombie Exterminators, I lab rats.Who doesn't like a mad scientist in a black ops lab?
There are 22 Short stories in the book. Pick up your copy and find your next new to you fave Author. The stories were all well written and entertaining.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2018Some of the stories were excellent, while others weren't worth the words used to write them, especially the one 'author' trying to be clever and ripping off the X-Men. The story was neither funny nor clever, just stupid and embarrassingly juvenile.
Some were just excerpts of larger novels, and only designed to whore the books from which they came. I hate it when authors do that, regardless of their actual talent.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2017This is twilight zone, tales from the darkside, and tales from the crypt, all rolled into one, on crack, soaked in redbull and airplane fuel. 22 authors collaborated to bring into being these 22 tales of zombies and the worlds they therin reside. Not usually my cup of tea but the tilte caught ny eye, as did the cover, and I could not figure out what is was supposed to be. Each and every story will blow you away, they are really good.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Halloween Treat
This selection of short stories came as a bit of a shock in a good way that is. I didn't think that 22 Authors could get together and write some really awesome zombie stories. Each one has it's own characteristics, bringing new storylines to thier well loved books. As I read through the collection I thought this would scare the s*%\t out off some of my friends, so guest what they are getting for Halloween. But seriously this collection is a good introduction to the works of these Wonderful Authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zombies ain't Dead!
This was an amazing anthology. Not a single dud in this bunch.
If anyone thinks that there is nothing new that can be done with the zombie genre then they should read these stories and think again.
I look forward to exploring some of these authors in further depth.
