Vapor (Cy Reed Adventures) Paperback – April 23, 2015
Purchase options and add-ons
A toxic mist rips through a secretive Israeli dig site, leaving Cy Reed's excavation in ruins. As dozens of people perish, a lethal artifact goes missing.
Fighting off death, Reed races to escape the mist. At the same time, bizarre weather phenomena plague the globe. Billions of dollars vanish from U.S. government coffers. And a mysterious organization initiates a scheme of apocalyptic proportions.
Searching for answers, Reed invades a forbidden island. Surrounded by enemies and isolated by endless dust storms, he launches a bold counterattack. As he races to unravel an ancient secret, he plunges into a savage struggle that could rewrite history … or make him a part of it.
In the tradition of Clive Cussler, Preston and Child, and James Rollins, Vapor is a rip-roaring action-adventure that will keep you awake all night.

About the author

David Meyer is an author, marble-maze builder, sock puppet aficionado, wannabe cartoonist, a creator of some things and breaker of others, a yogi and martial artist, and the owner of the reddest hair you’ve ever seen.
He’s a man of few apps, but many books. Creatively, he prefers to work in circles, following “the pull” rather than pushing. He’s tried—and abandoned—nearly every productivity tool known to man. He likes new ideas, old stories, and the big picture. He dislikes small talk, busyness, and infinite scrolling.
He’s married to the wife of his youth, who knows his worst, yet loves him best. He’s also father to what just happens to be his two favorite children of all time.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2016I think this is the best Cy Reed adventure yet. Like the way David weaves history with fiction. Looking forward to reading book number 5.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2015Cy Reed returns for a fourth adventure. Having enjoyed previous three Cy Reed adventures immensely, I was excited for this book and was not disappointed at all. I like Cy Reed because he is a very fallible every man hero in line of Indiana Jones. He is not invulnerable and he does not win every fight yet displays a doggy persistence that you cannot help but root for.
Cy,Beverly and Graham are hired to salvage a Reliquary by Lila Grinberg in middle of a sandstorm. During the retrieval they are attacked by a roving gang of marauders. Before long a drone attacks and kills everyone and Cy, Beverly and Graham barely escape with their life. With her dying breath Lila warns Cy to destroy the Reliquary before "everyone dies". Soon the Reliquary is stolen and running out of time, Cy finds himself in middle of a conspiracy with far reaching, horrible consequences. And in between you will find politics, data modelling, bizarre weather patterns, global climate change, artificial intelligence, contrails, philanthropy and what not !
Vapor is a thrill ride and a page turner. Unfortunately that's why I also had to take away one star from my review. The book reads like a action movie from start till end. However due to this there is barely any character development. Cy, Beverly and Graham who feature in all Cy Reed novels are barely given any introduction and author assumes the reader is familiar with these character. Although this is a stand-alone book and reading past books is not necessary for enjoying this book a half page summary of Cy, Beverly and Gharam and how they got to their current situation (Their Salvage company) would help the reader get invested in the characters. I also believe Cy has the potential to be a great character and a great series, unfortunately as a character he barely develops in this book.
Compared to the thrills and contents of the book though, these complaints are mere nit-picking. Fans of Jeremy Robinson, James Rollins and Michael Crichton will greatly enjoy this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2018I liked the book and I like the way David Meyer stringing along in the book before you really find out what is going on. Very interesting books and I really like his books.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2024I enjoyed the action but the writing style is a bit clumsier than my usual favourites. The archaeology side is always fun but it was a bit too far-fetched to be credible for the story and the action jumps from place to place. So many characters, who could have been developed further, were just viciously killed off!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2016Another Cy Reed adventure...this time with a fairly implausible storyline. Good fun for light reading on an airplane to while away the hours. Author needed to do a little ore research on bubonic and pneumonic plague(s) - but then again if he had stuck to facts, it would have ruined the book's premise. Will look forward to reading the next book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2015Breathtaking!
Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. The suspense builds from the very first page to an exciting conclusion. The research is extensive. The author has a unique ability to breathe life into a multitude of science issues that we face today. Cy Reed is a complex hero that one can really wrap their mind around. As such, I enjoyed the way Cy tackled and overcame the many obstacles that he encountered. The whole story makes me think twice about global warming and its causes. I've enjoyed the previous Cy Reed stories and look forward to his next adventure!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2019The entire thing stops in its track when the author resorts to the tired Villain tells entire plot to the hero in pages and pages of dialogue. Also, the author is entirely too fond of the word “visage”.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2015Could not wait for the fourth edition!! Loved the first three. Getting used to the authors writing I thought I could see the flow of his works. Wrong!! Many bold turns make this book very good!! Loved it immensely.
