Violated: A nail-biting crime thriller packed with heart-pounding twists (Brandon Fisher FBI Series Book 5) Kindle Edition
The beat of the music was thumping and vibrating in her skull. It was getting harder to walk straight, and he offered to take her back to her room. She should have said no. When she woke up, she didn’t remember much. All she knew was that her life would never be the same again.
Ferris Hall was mutilated and left to bleed to death in his Valencia, California, motel room. The murder is one of the most heinous that FBI Special Agent Brandon Fisher has ever seen. And the victim is connected to one of their very own, Special Agent Paige Dawson.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Paige—she’d finally tracked Hall down after years of effort, planning to confront him about his actions from years ago. Hall had been one of several men who’d raped Paige’s friend, and while the statute of limitations has run out and tied the hands of law, Paige wanted to make Hill face the fact he’d destroyed a young woman’s life. Yet, instead of accomplishing her goal, she ends up in the back of a police cruiser.
Now Paige is facing off with a hard-nosed detective determined to stick a murder charge to a Fed. But with the trained eyes of the FBI on Hall’s case, it’s becoming more and more obvious that the evidence lends itself to a serial killing, not an isolated incident. And as long as the local authorities are focused on Paige, the real murderer is still out there. Possibly waiting to strike again.
Violated explores the cost of revenge and being unable to let go of the past. Wickedly clever, you won’t want to put this killer thriller down. Fans of Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni, and Kendra Elliot will be totally addicted to this twist-filled page-turner.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseCarolyn Arnold is one of my go-to authors. No matter which series, her novels never disappoint. Violated, the fifth book in the Brandon Fisher FBI series, begins with an intense, brutal crime and doesn't pull back. The effects of "Date Rape" drugs and the psychological repercussions that continue many, many years later provides the back-story. Vigilante justice catches up to a serial rapist, and team member Paige finds herself in jail charged with murder.
Without giving away the plot, let's just say that the team jumps into action to clear her and find the true killer. Tension builds throughout the book, and the many twists and turns made for many late nights—it is one of those books you just can't put down. I particularly enjoy Ms. Arnold's skillful usage of switching points of view, using first person for one character, then switching to third person in separate chapters. Hard to pull off, but she does—giving the reader in-depth perspective from the main character as well as the internal emotions of other characters.
There's no way to predict the ending. Violated takes the Brandon Fisher series another step forward—if you haven't read the series, this would be a great time to binge-read from the beginning. On the other hand, the book stands alone as an excellent read. Don't miss it!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is book 5. The question remains DO YOU KNOW WHO BRANDON FISHER IS - SILLY ME CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER HIS NAME - KEEP CALLING HIM FRAISER. There is NOTHING memorable about this character. I have never read a series where I did not get a good feel for the main character, like them or hate them but something ANYTHING..but sadly still nothing. AND THIS BOOK HAS A HORRIBLE ENDING - LITERALLY LIKE WHAT JUST HAPPENED, IS THAT REALLY THE END, IT CAN'T BE, SWIPE SWIPE SWIPE...YEP SHE ENDED IT RIGHT THERE...with no ending at all.
I WAS REALLY STUPID and bought the series..BOUGHT THEM...did not get them for free, so I am completing them, but AS TO THE CHARACTERS...another book with PAIGE WHINING about Brandon - GIVE ME A FRIGGIN BREAK. She knew he was married but chose CHOSE to have the affair. WHY DO WOMEN THAT MESS WITH MARRIED MEN SEEM TO SUDDENLY THINK IT WILL BE BETTER/DIFFERENT WITH THEM...and when it is not WHY DO THEY STILL PINE FOR THEM LIKE THEY LOST SOMETHING SO GREAT...I am tired of this type of women being portrayed in a STRONG WOMEN JOB but weak-ass personality. and brandon MILK TOAST CHARACTER at best from what I read.
THE ONLY REDEEMING QUALITY OF THIS SERIES - NONE OF THE CHARACTERS - but the stories are really good so at least it is not SUFFERING THROUGH because I am at least finding the cases to be really intriguing and keeps me wanting to read.
It is a shame because I read the Madison knight series, and liked the first in this series, but it has steadily NOT GROWN THE CHARACTER TO ANYONE INTERSTING AT ALL.
I will finish what I bought, but will definitly NOT buy more.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseViolated by Carolyn Arnold is labeled book number 5 in her Brandon Fisher FBI Series but is a stand-alone novel. I had not even heard of Ms. Arnold, much less read any of her books before Violated, which I was lucky to receive from Amazon for free via BookBub.
In Violated, FBI Agent Paige Dawson is arrested for a gruesome murder we know she did not commit, but the coincidental and circumstantial evidence points to her as the guilty party. How her colleagues, including former boyfriend Brandon Fisher, prove her innocence by finding the real killer is half the fun. Watching Ms. Arnold tell her story with such confidence and clarity is the other half.
Employing elements of noir and hardboiled crime fiction (“His hand hovered above his weapon, ready to draw it, looking for one good reason to.”), Ms. Arnold does not waste words, writes intelligent dialogue, creates interesting characters whose motivations she understands, and punctuates the first-person narrative with humorous sarcasm. Despite its disappointing ending (the words sappy and lame come to mind), Violated is an entertaining novel skillfully telling a complex tale.
A final note. Ms. Arnold prides herself on writing realistic police procedurals. I don’t know to what extent FBI field agents are trained in self-defense techniques, but I do know that many police departments train their officers in Krav Maga, which includes an easy but effective solution how to neutralize a knife attack in the back. An illustrative video is available on YouTube. After reading the ending of Violated, I recommend that hot shot Special Agent Jack Harper watch the video, and report back to headquarters for sorely needed remedial training.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great entertainment.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseGreat entertainment from this well constructed story. Unusual crimes and characters create conflicting clues and evidence that is a real puzzle for the FBI and the reader to sort out. Tensions between FBI and local PD, team member and team leader, ex- boyfriend and current boyfriend, and between law enforcement, criminals and victims, create believable and engaging characters.

3.0 out of 5 stars Violated
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAnother Brandon Fisher FBI series story well worth the read.
This story keeps the interest throughout with Paige Dawson, Zach Miles, Brandon Fisher and their Supervisory Agent, Jack Harper tasked to track down a serial killer on the west coast of America. The story rolls on with mutilation murders taking place with almost monotonous regularity. One murder leads to another and eventually the team identify the likely perpetrator who makes a final attempt to kill SSA Jack Harper. Special Agent Brandon Fisher comes to the rescue and shoots the perpetrator in SSA Harper’s hotel room, just about saving the day although Jack Harper is severely injured.
Well written with some conflict between law enforcement agenciesthat adds to the drama.
