3.9 out of 5 stars 15 ratings

*** This is the Boxed Set of the 5-Part Voodoo Love series. A Paranormal Romance Ghost Story. ***

Elizabeth knows what adventure is about. Or at least she would if her memory would ever come back! She's been told that two years ago she was chased by a greedy thug who believed she knew the location to a cursed pirate treasure hidden deep in the sultry bayous of Louisiana. During the process of escaping, Elizabeth’s lover and assassin for hire drowned trying to save her. Though she now lives in a government arranged marriage in a small Louisiana town, Elizabeth is struggling to remember the past, remember the danger, and most of all remember Juan Carlos- the dead Latino dreamboat who dragged her into the mess in the first place.

When Elizabeth’s idyllic new life is interrupted by a ghostly visit from a still sexy Juan Carlos, she finds herself once again plunged into unwanted intrigue. With his help, her memory of the past begins to come back, along with her memories of their hot nights of passion.

With the help of a powerful voodoo queen, passion between the two is re-ignited. But the curse of ancient pirate treasure is strong. Can voodoo be used to lift the curse? Can their love be saved?

This is a story about voodoo magic, passion and love eternal that will not soon be forgotten.

This is a really good brief story with a stunning finish. I like the way the ending comes and you might be ready for more to come.

This first Voodoo Love episode is gripping, pulling you right into a story of twists and turns. The characters are nicely developed making them believable. I truly care about the principle character and need to know what is going to occur next. The author's use of particulars brought the story to life for me.

It's a fun fast to read story that I discovered myself getting increasingly fascinated by because the story unfolded and the characters developed. I discovered the story developed properly and the characters were attention-grabbing and engaging.

In the small town of Barataria Bay, Louisiana, Elizabeth Brown is struggling to remember the past. Two years ago she lost her lover and her memory on a quest to find a long lost treasure guarded by a voodoo curse.
When Elizabeth's life is interrupted by a ghostly visit from Juan Carlos, she finds herself once again plunged into unwanted intrigue. With his help, her memory of the past begins to come back.

The opening scene in this story is sure to grab you and not let you go. Then the story jumps ahead two years and we learn how Elizabeth's life has changed and how she is coping with her loss of Juan Carlos. There is a powerful voodoo curse at play in her life she is entirely unaware of. Most of the story is told in first person and we get to watch as the scenes unfold and her memory starts to return. Several players are not who they seem and there is at least one extremely vile villain who insinuates himself throughout the story.

The plot is fast moving and captivating, interwoven with bits and pieces of voodoo history and rituals. The story is suspenseful and full of intrigue as Elizabeth's memory starts to return and we get to know more around the series of events that happened when she lost her memory. The lore and curse surrounding Jean Lafitte's treasure was what captured me the most.

While I enjoyed the story and the characters were well defined, I had a little trouble keeping a connection with Elizabeth. I empathized with her character, she had a smart wit about her. I liked the way she justified carrying a gun in her purse. She had a strength of character that I am not sure I would have had in her position. One of her biggest strengths of character comes at the end of the book where there are some twists in the story that make this a fully satisfying read.

FYI: There are adult sexual situations, mild language, and one F-bomb.

Format/Typo Issues: I came across a small number of proofing errors but nothing that threw me out of the story.

I had purchased a copy of this book before the opportunity to review was presented by the author. As always, I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.

First in the "Voodoo Love" series, and it starts off the series with every element checked off with panache. Elizabeth is a character with a skewed sense of humor that very much reminded me of Evonovich's Stephanie Plum. The book proceeds with rapid fire dialogue, with funny nearly slapstick, portrayal of the scene around her.

At the heart of the story is the curse around the hidden treasure of Jean Lafitte, and just why Elizabeth has a coin from the treasure. Just how much she remembers beyond the drowning of her lover Juan, and just why he is in her living room.

Combining action, humour, some really sexy scenes and the myriad of beliefs that are common in the bayou country of Louisiana; the story rolls from one highlight to the next. Characters are well developed and their interactions are believable. There are a few nice twists that fit well into a serialized story - while this section is neatly wrapped and tied with a bow; there are no complete ends to any of the intermingled stories. A great start off for a series that hopefully, will center on Elizabeth and her new Louisiana roots.

Voodoo Love: And the Curse of Jean Lafitte's TreasureI read this book in less than a day, that's how good it was. Nice change of pace from all the Vampire/Werewolf books, not that they are bad, just different. Fast paced and entertaining, some humor, some excitement, some intrigue, a little romance but not much sex.

I chose it looking for a more historical romance. I tend to like older setting to books and had just read a modern one that was very good so this turned me off at the very beginning and I just didn't get into it. You should try it. It might be more to your liking.

A fun, easy read that unfortunately lacked the depth and character development to be a really great book. If you are looking for an easy, sexy read that you can skim through, check it out. The setting was fun, and the opening scenes hooked me, but the ending was hurried. I did enjoy the humour. Enjoyable read, but nothing memorable.

Nicely constructed the quick read novel unravels curses, treasure and loves lost at a fast pace. Personally I prefer longer stories (series) that leave more room for immersion into the authors setting, but when the story is as well told as this, and has mature characters with reasonably believable motivations, it should objectively get 5*s. Especially if you are in to woodo/bayo lore. I am not, came to the book after enjoying the author's banshee series, but was not disappointed as the heroine came across as a contemporary autonomous woman, not the normal immature, blushing, scared, baffled, gung-ho etc cliché characters lazy writers serve up for fast paced escapism.

I downloaded it for free and as such it was a reasonable read. I finished it which is an indication of it's readability - if I find a free download hard going then I tend to simply delete it. I probably wouldn't buy a sequel as the characters were a little superficial and I couldn't find a great deal to like about them. Other than that then it is the sort of thing you can pick up and put down and spend a pleasant 10 minutes with.
