Forbidden love tries to find a way to work in a lush, tropical setting <3
Miss Kate's suspense-filled beach read earns 4/5 stars from me!  For a first ever novel release, I enjoyed her fast-paced, drama filled romp.  There were a few parts of the story that seemed to drag on longer than necessary, but it was mostly to inform the audience of pertinent info.  The angst between Romeo and Jasmine will have you on edge until the very end.  I found some parts of the plot left me without answers, but overall, a good freshman go at authordom! If you love lots of drama, you'll be sold on this book ;)Read my FULL review on my book blog (Kali's Book Reviews)!

What started as a day of fun, ended in pain and tragedy. Still suffering the effects of that day Jasmine is dealing with survivor's guilt and loss. While watching a news report Jasmine is reminded of two men from her past, her ex-boyfriend and his brother Romeo who holds a special place in her heart. Though five years have passed Jasmine is compelled to reach out to Romeo during his difficult time. The story takes of from there as Jasmine and Romeo reconnect and form a relationship. There were some behavioural issues on Romeo's part that I didn't like, but added to the realism of the overall plot. Jasmine is a combination of delicateness and strength. Overall an entertaining read.

This book was an on the whim grab. I'd seen it for free and wanted to check out the author since I hadn't heard of her before. I'm truly glad I did! It was time well spent reading. I got a great read and added an new author to my list of authors to read.
So, the start of the book was a bit confusing at first. We have Jasmine writing a letter to her cousin Reyna, talking about dating Diego and her friend (her Diego's brother) Romeo. It confused me for a minute because the blurb implied that it was Jasmine's and Romeo's story. However, the first chapter reveals things and the confusion was quickly forgotten.
Jasmine has been through a horrible experience when visiting her cousin in the Philippines. Her love for Romeo is known in the very beginning when she thinks he's in the room with her while she's recovering.  However, this moment changed Jasmine. The way she viewed the world. The way she viewed her life. Struggling with PTSD, she tried to find her place in the world. Then she sees a news report about her ex boyfriend and her love interest's brother. She reached out to the man, both out of concern and wanting to offer comfort, but also wanting to see him again.
When she laid eyes on him for the first time after all years apart, she was almost stunned by the waves of euphoria and love that surged through her.
When Romeo offered her a job to help him with his benefit concert he was trying to get word out about, and the chance to heal, that's when things really change for her. She's back on an island and a beach. Jasmine had convinced herself it would help her heal. Though, in the back of her mind, she wanted the time with Romeo to see if there could be anything between them.
This is where the real story begins. The minute they board the plane to the Maledives. There was friction between Rupert, Romeo's publicist, and the staff helping with the concert. Romeo was captivating to watch work but then when they were alone together things got weird. Not in a bad way as in the writing, but as in Jasmine was wanting more and Romeo was avoiding it.
This book had me holding my breath several times as things started to go array with the concert site and someone trying to use Jasmine for their benefits. Then there was Rupert who was just plain nasty. I didn't like him from the start. Clive, project manager, was funny. A drunken disaster sometimes but funny.
There was a point that I had to set my tablet aside and walk away because the emotions were so intense. The ability to connect to these characters was easily done with the author's writing. I was able to visualize their surroundings (and longed to visit myself).
If you're looking for a read that holds you by the heart and gut, takes you through the wringer to the point you yell at them to "Just realize it already!" to an HEA then this book is for you. I loved every moment of this book and will be looking out for more books by this author.

For this author's first book I felt it was well written and has wonderful characters. I loved reading and following Jasmine and Romeo's story, as well as the environmental statement in the story line. The ending I felt was unfinished as you don't find out what happens to Rupert, Kamal, and the feelings of the local populace toward Romeo. I look forward to reading more from this very promising and talented author.

*I received a free copy of this book, with thanks to the author. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*

The Maldives setting is gorgeous and the environmental subplot fits perfectly with this sumptuous but threatened location.

The main storyline is, of course, the will-they-won’t-they (they definitely will!) love story between Jasmine and Romeo, but Kate Ashenden throws numerous obstacles in the way of their sexy-ever-after.

There is PTSD caused by a natural disaster, a family rivalry turned mysterious, a sultry star of a girlfriend and a suspicious sheik who would like to be a boyfriend, oh and some unprofessional professional jealousy from a prickly PA. Phew! That’s not even counting the huge benefit concert only days away…!

These threads are all introduced gradually and build tension as the story progresses but then suddenly all rush to a finish very quickly (or remain somewhat unresolved). I feel a slower-paced resolution might have been more satisfying, as I did feel invested in the various outcomes.

So, a sizzling summer read, packed with plot, which may leave you wanting more!

He was a man who could draw even the coldest person in with his charisma. When he walked into a room, he owned it, and his presence and confidence was so sexy, so masculine… He’d left such a strong impression on Jasmine that even now – five years after she last saw him in person – there was a Romeo-shaped mark stamped on her, which reminded Jasmine that love hurt. But at this moment in time, the thought of him was healing and not hurting Jasmine.

This is her first book I do hope people will give it a go. Even tho it was not my cup of tea.

This book is about a guy who thinks blood family is more important than love. And a girl who is suffering from ptsd, who has loved the boy for years. Oh yeah and mostly about climate change. I wanted to read a romance book not, a wishy-washy boy/girl story heavy in environmental rights. So if you read this be prepared for that. In the end the girl gets the boy.

I rec'd this book free and am leaving this review of my own accord.

I thought from the front cover that this book would just be your typical romance set in a tropical paradise, however a couple of chapters in and I knew I was mistaken. I was really captured by the vivid descriptions of the beautiful locations as well as the well-rounded characters and thought provoking environmental messages. I was really rooting for Jasmine and Romeo and loved escaping to the amazing Maldives to be part of their thrilling love story. I can’t wait to read Kate’s next book.
