Will you…date me? 💗

Delilah James, singleton and smoothie-addict, has six months to find a date for her oldest friend’s wedding. Oh, and to prove to her ex, best man Ben, that she has totally moved on since he dumped her out-of-the-blue nine months, eight days and seventeen hours ago…

So, with her two BFFs playing Cupid, Delilah launches herself into the high-tech, fast-paced and frankly terrifying world of dating. Luckily there’s the hot new guy at work, Adam Sinclair, to practice her flirting on – even if, as a colleague, he’s strictly off-limits!

Yet time’s running out and date after disastrous date forces Delilah to tell a little white lie – and invent a fake boyfriend! But will her secret crush on Adam ruin everything? Does she even care about Ben anymore? And is it too late to untangle her web of lies and take a real date to the wedding…?

Jennifer Joyce is a writer of romantic comedies who lives in Greater Manchester with her two daughters. She's been scribbling down bits of stories for as long as she can remember, graduating from a pen to a typewriter and then an electronic typewriter. And she felt like the bee's knees typing on THAT. She now writes her books on a laptop (which has a proper delete button and everything).

Jennifer Joyce continues her winning streak of wonderful romantic comedies with her latest, The Wedding Date. Joyce tells the story of 20-something office worker Delilah James. She loves musicals, spending time at the pub with her friends, and has visions of marriage to her boyfriend, Ben, complete with a happy home and several kids. Actually, "had" is more like it when Ben dumps her out of the blue and shatters Delilah's world. Unable to move on from him, she receives an additional shock 9 months later when an old friend's wedding will have Ben as the best man. So, Delilah sets out to meet the man who will be her perfect wedding date, showing Ben that she's moved on, too.

What follows is a story with tons of laughs, fantastic characters, surprises, and plenty of heart that will leave you awaiting the next page in excitement, every single time. One of your favorite parts will no doubt be the beginning of each chapter as you're given hilarious glimpses into the history of Delilah and her loved ones through text messages they've sent each other throughout the years. In fact, some of these texts just make me want a prequel (or several) to see these characters and how they became indelible parts of one another's lives.

Joyce creates characters that you'll love dearly and want to have a pint with, and of course horrible ones that would make you pull your hair out in anger if they were part of your life. They feel real, and everything feels heartfelt and genuine as their lives unfold before you. You'll have no problem seeing everything clearly in your mind, which shows Joyce's immense talent for writing. I enjoyed every single page and like with Joyce's other books, I selfishly wished for a new book from her to be available already. And of course, I will pre-order it as soon as it's available, and be there at midnight on release date ready to download (and hopefully one day also be able to crack open a physical book... and maybe even we'll be lucky enough to see her work adapted for television or cinema as it would be perfect for those mediums) and venture back into the amazing literary world she's created.

5 out of 5 stars! Bravo, Jennifer Joyce!

Before picking this book, I had already read some of Jennifer Joyce's previous work so I knew that I was in for a fun lighthearted book. And I was not wrong, The Wedding Date certainly delivers what it promises: lots of laughs, quite a big web of lies with hilarious consequences, a good pinch of romance and best friends who are worth their weight in gold.

The story revolves around Delilah (I know what you are thinking, "hey there Delilah..." and all that, she has heard it before, a thousand times, which made me giggle every time it got mentioned). Basically, Delilah has been dumped by perfect Ben and they both are attending a friend's wedding. Very maturely, Delilah needs a wedding date to prove to Ben that she is over him, which she evidently isn't. But well, she is quite young and I actually really liked her, so I'm going to forgive her immaturity here.

The first part of the book then centers on all the dates Delilah goes to to find the perfect wedding companion. Let's say they all go horribly well (for me, seriously, I was laughing out loud with some of those guys). And the second part of the story focuses more in Delilah's two possible new love interests. There was a moment there I really didn't know which way it was going to go. I really enjoyed this suspense and how the author played a bit with us.

I really liked seeing Delilah grow and mature during the story. As I said, I really liked her from the beginning, but she was a bit naive and she was kidding herself if she thought she was over her ex. But as the story progressed, we saw new parts of her, and she became more invested in her job, in her friends and in her own happiness. So I ended up really caring for her.

Around Delilah there was also a whole bunch of characters, from her lovely parents and her best friends to her not so lovely employers, they all formed a great community and I had lots of fun with them. Plus, Delilah worked at a biscuit factory (which, apparently, is not that much fun) and I loved reading all about biscuits and the recipes they all came up with for a campaign at the factory. I can't wait to try some myself.

All in all, The Wedding Date is a fun and cute story that will put a smile on your face. With lovable characters and quite a lot of drama, you won't get one bit bored with this one.

I was give an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review. Essentially a romantic. comedy about moving on after the end of a relationship. A little bit farcical in places but made me smirk rather than giggle out loud, but then I would never normally choose this genre. After reading lots of serious and quite intense books I felt like some lighthearted relief. So it did the job. 3***

This book was soooo adorable. I didn't want to put it down. It's cute and sweet and I did cringe at some of Delilah's decisions but it's what made the story interesting. I want to know what happened with Vincent though??? Why was that date so bad. Anyways the book was still cute and adorable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Who's more stressed? The bride? Or the guest?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 15, 2016

Ah, weddings! They can be stressful can’t they? I mean, you need to ensure you’re looking your best, preened to perfection from head to toe with every single thing organised. Plus there is the added stress of invitations. Without those, nobody would turn up, obviously, but then you have to painstakingly sit there and work out who you’re going to the wedding with……
Oh, no, sorry, I’m not on about the stresses for the bride!! The bride will be with her husband! I was on about who would have the privilege of accompanying a singleton to a wedding, a plus one, a wedding date. STRESS!! Now if that wasn’t enough to send your mind into overdrive, you then find out from the bride herself that your ex partner will be at the wedding. Not just a quick fumble type ex, an ex that truly broke your heart and has moved on faster than a conveyor belt at the supermarket.
Single, going to a wedding, ex partner to be there with NEW partner, did I say single? Surely it won’t be that much of a disaster….will it?

My, my, myyyyyy Delilah. Yes, I did it. Sorry Delilah! Delilah has six months to find herself a date for an old friends wedding. Usually it would be a simple task as she could have taken her best friend, however, her ex Ben is going to be there. Cue major girl drama and her two best friends (and sister) trying to set her up with every Tom, Dick, and Harry. Well, Delilah’s sister’s choice of men is quite questionable. A man and a computer, what could possibly go wrong….

I want Delilah’s job, she works in a biscuit factory. Unfortunately, she doesn’t work where the biscuits are made, that is the only downfall. Although, she does work next to something else that is ‘sweet’. Meet Adam, one of the new guys in her office, everything about him shouts ‘dunk me’ (Peter Kay reference anyone?). Not only has Delilah’s two best friends pushed her to go on multiple dates courtesy of online dating, Adam manages to catch her eye. However, whilst that sounds perfect, Delilah believes that she isn’t good enough after Ben broke her heart, so she feels the need to tell one lie, then two, then….see where I’m going with this?

I knew Jennifer’s books were funny, but I underestimated how funny. Sarcasm + one liners + character’s with questionable personalities = TWG snorting. Classy, right? Many times throughout the book I kept changing my mind about where I thought the story was heading. Some situations were saying one thing, and others were changing my train of thought completely. However, I was still surprised, probably a bit like Delilah was when she found out her ex Ben was going to be at the wedding!

There are a few situations in the book that had me covering my face because I was cringing and thinking ‘did that just happen?’. No, not because of Jennifer’s writing, but because of several characters and their one track minds. I may have been cringing, but I loved it. ‘The Wedding Date’ is such a light-hearted and easy flowing read, nothing within the book was a hardship to read. I genuinely didn’t want the book to finish as I wanted to find out what happened AFTER the wedding. The characters had such depth that I felt they had more to give and perhaps needed another story to breathe in. If that makes sense? Maybe I am just being greedy and wanting more. That isn’t a bad thing though! Definitely recommended as one of my ‘Must reads of 2016’!!

I do want Jennifer Joyce as my new BFF though, her humour is pretty much like mine. One thing though Jennifer, please don’t set me up with any….computer exploring guys, if you catch my drift! I am looking forward to read what you have in store next!

I have read a lot of her books and find they just get better and better. This particular story is absolutely hilarious and I laughed so much I had the tears running down by face. The characters were all brilliant. Lots of thought and planning has gone into this story making it first class. One sister is trying to stop her younger sister consuming her rushed marriage and the things she and her partner in crime think up to stop it is absolutely hilarious. I don't want to tell you too much about this story as I suggest you read it yourself but can you imagine single beds in a honeymoon suite in a five star hotel?

This book was such a fun read! I instantly fell in love with Delilah and her friends and really enjoyed reading about her quest to find the perfect date to take to Francesca's wedding. Also, I think Delilah has possibly the best job ever - who wouldn't want to work in a biscuit factory next to hunky Adam Sinclair? This book is bursting with humour, warmth and a cast of awesome characters. Would highly recommend to chase away the January blues.
