Review
I read this straight after Towards the Within. I didn't warm to the character Ben immediately, but then soon realised how cleverly the book was written for this very reason. I was hooked from the beginning and found the story to be utterly compelling. Reece Willis is now one of my all time favourite authors.- Goodreads user Daniel
I actually really enjoyed this book!... I was sucked into the book after the 2nd chapter and didn't stop until I finished it! Will definitely recommend it to my bookish friends!- Goodreads user Nicole

About the author

Reece's journey into literature began at an early age. His imagination was lost to the tales of Charles Dickens, the adventures of Mark Twain and nail-biting prose of HP Lovecraft. He was rarely seen without his head buried deep within the pages of a book. By the age of eleven he discovered Roald Dahl and CS Lewis's land of Narnia and commenced the long running series of Fighting Fantasy and Lone Wolf novels, whilst his late teens took him into the dark corridors of George Orwell, Franz Kafka, Clive Barker and Stephen King.
In the nineties he wrote copy for a world renowned holiday corporation and later went on to study writing and photography with the British College of Journalism. At the end of 1999 he started an online travel guide documenting in-depth country profiles with the addition of latest health, safety and security information. By 2014 he sold the business to pursue the writing of Towards the Within.
Reece has travelled extensively throughout Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe and the Middle East. He currently resides in England where he is working on his third novel. His second book, What We Become, was released in 2020.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2020Unlike some other reviewers, I really liked this book. It’s is an unusual and suspenseful book that leaves the reader hanging until the very end. It’s impossible to say anything that’s not a spoiler, so I’m just going to say I read it in one sitting, was hooked into what I thought was reality from the very beginning, and was thrown completely off guard by the end. The story is told going back and forth in the protagonist’s life (Ben) and from his point of view, and it is told extremely well.
Highly recommended. I’d love to read more by this writer. I received this book as an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2020Thank you NetGalley for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review. Ben meets Kirsten and they fall in love, although, it appears that Ben falls a little harder. Kirsten moves in with Ben and then her true colors come out. She is self-centered and extremely selfish. After a few on again-off again, Kirsten leaves and Ben discovers she is engaged. Ben then goes to Thailand. Kirsten has changed Ben, and not for the better. This is written with every other chapter being present day and then events leading up to present day. You get to see where Ben started from and then how far he has fallen. You cannot like Kirsten. She has no redeeming qualities. And I had a hard time liking Ben in the present, until you find out why he has fallen so far. From the premise of the book, this book is not really what I was expecting. I was shocked at the ending. This is a fast and easy read, which I would recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2020This is a review I'm having a hard time writing. I gave it 4 stars because I like the story and the characters, but I didn't think it flowed well. I considered that maybe as a part of POV, for other parts it does flow well. When the story first begins, we meet the main character Ben and his best friend whose almost like a brother to him Danny. Danny was all the time getting picked on by the bullies until Ben taught him some Martial Arts. Then, they leave him alone. I like the characters Ben and Danny, but I'm not sure where this story is going. One of the characters I definitely did not like is Kirsten, what a heartless, cruel selfish woman! I know Dan is a good friend to Ben, but I still question his motives for some of the things he does. I like the story, and the development of the characters, I did not however, like the ending. No spoilers, I'll let you decide for yourself if you like it. I think I would read other books by this author, but would have preferred it if this one flowed better.

5.0 out of 5 stars What we become
A good read with a few surprises. Ben had a reasonably ordinary childhood & upbringing & after school he started his own business. Then he met & fell in love with a girl & they moved in together. What promised to be a happy future soon turned sour & Ben's life careered off on a very destructive path. Yet I couldn't help but feel for him as his life unravelled. Even though he had a couple of chances of happiness, sadly he seemed unable to commit to either & there were a couple of shocking twists I was not expecting. Overall. a lot is packed into its 200 pages & worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intrigue and suspense
I absolutely loved the protagonist's self conversations. The battle between love and hate. Our mental well being is so important in crisis, the desolation is very well described. Love it

1.0 out of 5 stars Over Priced
I am a long-time customer of Amazon, especially for the purchase of books. Disappointingly, the book recently received, "What We Become" is over priced at £8.99 plus delivery. I haven't had a chance yet to read the book, but disappointed in its production. There are four blank pages at the end of the book plus a number of pages explaining the book and promoting another. The book itself looks more like a Novella than a Novel. Also, the size of text and line spacing plus thicker paper stock is all very well for more comfortable reading, but again takes up more pages. With blank pages etc as well, it looks as though the book has been padded out. I'm sure the story itself will be an enoyable read, but I maintain the price, for what it is, is too high.
I look forward to your feedback.
