The Cowboy's Road Home: Clean as a Whistle Contemporary Western Romance (Cowboys of Whistle Rock Ranch Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 1,159 ratings

Second chances aren’t a sure thing.
Not when sparks fly between the perfect woman
and a devoted cowboy whose father
is determined to keep them apart.

It’s been eight years since Wyatt Bonner left Whistle Rock Ranch.

After two college degrees and loads of experience helping to run his uncle’s dude ranch, he’s back and ready to take his place beside his father. Sunrise to sunset, he’s all business, hardworking, and dedicated to the family’s horse breeding operation—until Daisy Raines bursts back into his life.

A successful businesswoman, Daisy’s never forgotten her first love. Learning Wyatt has returned to Brilliance, Wyoming, and the family ranch, she faces a hard truth. She still loves the handsome, sometimes cocky cowboy.

After eight years, she expects little, and is surprised when Wyatt makes it clear he wants another chance. The independent Daisy is all in until a significant obstacle blocks their growing relationship.

There’s no sure path to a second chance. Not when Wyatt’s father is dead set against a union including Daisy.

The Cowboy’s Road Home, book one in the Cowboys of Whistle Rock Ranch Contemporary Western Romance series, is a clean and wholesome standalone, full-length novel with an HEA and no cliffhanger.

Very enjoyable read, with great main characters. Wyatt and Daisy hadn't been together for eight years, but their strong love for each other helped to make their decision to marry.

Wyatt Bonner was gone for eight years between going to college and working at his Uncles dude ranch.
He comes back home to work for his father, Anson, and his mother, Margie. His father had a heart attack and wasn't told.
Wyatt bumped into Daisy. He realized he still had feelings for her. They had gone out for a short time while they were in high school. He broke up with her just before leaving for college.
Little did he know that she had always loved Wyatt. His mother also knew about her feelings for Wyatt.
His father didn't want Wyatt anywhere near Daisy. He had a secret that he never told Wyatt. So he determined to break them up.
Wyatt and Daisy had strong feelings for each other and wanted to make it work.
Two great people who don't have a clue what secrets have been kept from them. But when they find out, nothing can keep them apart.
Great story of love by Shirleen Davies

Wyatt and Daisy both have father issues. His is overbearing and dictatorial hers abandoned her and her mother when she was a baby. Wyatt's father sent him to live with his uncle and work on his ranch while in collage severing his relationship with Daisy. Its been eight years and she is still in love with him. Will they find a way to be together with his father insisting he have nothing to do with her?

Having to go against his father is difficult but his demands go too far. He bears lots of responsibility with the ranch but he is drawn to Daisy and refuses to stay away. The handled things in a very adult way taking their time to become reacquainted. I enjoyed the story. There were few surprises. I felt bad about Daisy being alone after her mother remarried but she had a successful business in town and was friends with a lot of people.I'm going to read the next in this series.

A family that heals is stronger. Working through past hurts, lost loves, and learning to accept, takes time. No one ever said it would be easy, but the effort is worth it in the end.

Wyatt Bonner has been gone from Whistle Rock Ranch for 8 years. He finished school and lived on his uncle's dude ranch during those years, but now it's time to go home and take over the family business. He's ready for the responsibility even if he's not sure he's ready to live with his father again. he loves his father dearly, but they don't always agree. His father is a bully, while Wyatt prefers his uncle's softer approach. His father believes his way and his opinion are the only one that matters. And that includes Wyatt's personal life. When Wyatt starts seeing Daisy Raines, his father strongly objects that she is not the right woman to be a rancher's wife. Daisy is a successful businesswoman with a quirky sense of fashion and the sweetest disposition ever, but his father dislikes her and makes no secret of it. Wyatt will have to decide what his future looks like. The one he wants or the one his father demands.

I didn't find myself enthralled with this story or its characters. I found it unusual how much time Wyatt spent away from the ranch. Every other book I've read about ranchers, they worked every waking hour except to eat. Time for romance had to be snuck in during a typical ranch story, but not this one. Wyatt went to town for lunch, helped Daisy clean up the store, and spent the night away during a major storm. I liked Wyatt and Daisy just fine, but I didn't feel like they had an epic love story. They went on a couple of dates, didn't see each other for 8 years, and then spent some time together. No sweet moments. No grand gestures. They were solid but nothing more. I didn't think it was believable that she was still in love with him from 2 HS dates and had no contact for nearly a decade. Sad, if true. The supporting cast was also fine if nothing special, aside from one. Wyatt's dad was one of my least favorite characters. He was no great villain, only a sad, mean man who overstepped. His children, his workers, and his wife meant less to him than his demands. His health crisis should have been his "Come to Jesus Moment" where he decided to be a supportive, caring man instead of a mini-dictator, but it wasn't. Instead, there was no real moment, only a change of mind. I guess he didn't want to spend the remainder of his days alone but it would have been nice for him to admit he was wrong, tell his wife he loved her, and that he appreciated his son. However, the biggest fault of this book was that it lacked any momentum. Nothing memorable happened. It will be easily forgotten.
