Spells and Slip-ups: Arcane Souls World (The Wrong Witch Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 2,018 ratings

I suck at witchcraft.

Coming from a long line of famous witches, I should be at the top of the heap. Problem is, if there’s a spell cast anywhere near me, I‘ll somehow mess it up. As a probationary agent with the Arcane Bureau of Investigation, I have two choices: I can limp along and maybe pass myself off as a competent agent, or I can die.

Horribly.

Worse news? I seem to have a stalker in the form of a sinfully hot, perpetually grumpy wolf who seems to have a keen interest in keeping me alive.

Whose idea was this again?

If you enjoy fated mates, enemies-to-lovers, and steamy paranormal romance, then check out Spells & Slip-ups, the first book in The Wrong Witch series.

Fun, quick read
🌶🌶🌶.5 Fantasy Paranormal Shifter Witches Mystery Found Family Good story and a quick read. The idea of being a witch but making all things witchy go wonky is an intriguing idea. Also, the wolf mate bond angle is a fresh take. Love the idea of an FBI for magic (ABI). In Wren's case, it was more punishment, but fate really was planning things out for Wren with her found family and Nico. Add the fact that Wren has natural leadership & intellectual prowess it really gave her a chance for a new life.

This was such a great book!

I mean if you know anything about the Arcane Souls World you know this is going to be good. If not, I definitely recommend checking them out.

This is such a funny book, it had me laughing and shaking my head so many times. It had your hot as all get out romance as well which was pretty much perfect! I really enjoyed the action/suspense bits to it too. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen until it actually did which is a great testament to a book to me.

Ok so, Wren the main female character had be laughing from the beginning. You seriously can’t help but to love her. She’s a take charge kind of woman even if things end up, well…wonky. She is a strong character that you just love and want to be friends with.

She ends up as a probationary agent and oh my do things get interesting from there. There is so much that happens up at that camp/training facility/cluster craziness.

The supporting characters that Wren bunked with were awesome. I really liked their spunk and how much they care for Wren and stick together.

And Nico, oh sweet goodness Nico. This man is in denial to begin with and it makes you laugh. You just see it and shake your head at him. I really enjoyed his character and oh is the chemistry between him and Wren off the charts. Even if the path getting there is a all sorts crazy.

Wren and Nico together is just amazing and you can’t get enough of them.

The main story line really had me questioning myself and I was like wait what?! But in a good way.

I really cannot wait for the next installment of this series! I highly recommend reading this one!!

This was a fun read, a little fast - but with just enough meat to keep it interesting. I want to see the characters fleshed a bit more, with added depth, but this is just the first in the series, it should lose some of that one dimensional feel as it progresses, if the authors other works are anything to go by.

I rather enjoyed the side characters and want to see more of them. The author also left just enough intrigue to keep the series going, though the big reveal was already dropped for the two main characters.

    This book was a DELIGHT!

It’s got magic, shifters, witches, werewolves, and open door spice!! 🌶️ Heck yeah.

Also, the synopsis made me think it was something different - this book is totally academy style! It starts off with Wren trying to do a good deed for her found-family, that goes awry, then she’s given the choice to train and try to get into the supernatural police, or go to jail.
So we get a delightful fun academy / training style book! Woohoo. I thought it was going to be following her around at work based on the synopsis, but oh, no, we’ve got lots of world and character building to do first. Yayyyy.

Lots of fun characters, who are introduced gradually so you can actually have a chance to remember their names and powers (love that! It’s a tough balance with academy style books not to intro everyone at once).

Great world building and I’m so excited to continue to the next book, but also super hopefully there’s other tales in this world!

Also technical things - switching first person perspectives between our leading lady Wren and her hottie Nico. Setting up to be a great MF series (no hints of RH here).

Wished it was longer BUT it was really good. Spice. Funny. The characters were amazing. I need to see how wren does when she meets Nico’s family. This book was a fast, fun, sexy read and I enjoyed every second of it! On to book 2!

Wren is definitely a relatable character and that is the best part of the book. Her snarkiness is amusing and the 1st person points of view the story is written in gives us a front row seat into the inner workings of both Wren and Nico.

I feel like the story progressed too quickly. Very little character development, multiple “spicy” moments in a short amount of time, and read the book in less than two hours leaves a lot to be desired.

Definitely a decent short read but would loved for more development. Still going to read the sequel though.

The story is dual narrated by two different narrators, one for each of the main characters, which alternated about every chapter. The narrators were fabulous, really making Wren and Niko come to life. They both did a great job of conveying personality and expression as well as doing different voices for the secondary characters which is always my favorite in an audiobook. If you are a fan of audios, urban fantasy and steam, I highly recommend listening to this book.

I would easily give this 5 stars for the world building (FYI I have read the author's other books, and this is set in the same world that I am already familiar with so there was not too much detail here but it referenced some of the things/people/world that I know already so I enjoyed that- maybe not as well understood for the newbies to this universe). I would give 4 stars to the mystery that underlies the story, it was twisty enough to keep me interested even while the story was a little too short since I would have liked more suspense build up. And here is my harshness, I would give 3 stars to the romance since it did not develop a real relationship at all, it was just sex- lots of it, with no actual getting to know each other or communication. I am hoping the next book will fix that for me- especially with the big bombshell ending (good luck Wren!) Overall, I can easily give this 4 stars and I would love to continue the series.

Yet another great start to another great series. I love this author and would recommend these books to anyone over the age of 18 lol. My daughter also loves them but the grandkids are a little young yet for the more adult parts of the storyline.

This was a fun read. It felt pretty unique work wise to things I’ve been reading lately and I enjoyed it a heck of a lot. Didn’t love some of the choices of Nico but having already read half of the next book I’m loving Wren more. This did feel really short though. I hope there is a lot of story here it feel like it could have a lot of potential. Although I get the vibe there is a lot of other stories based in this same world by the author. Fully keen to check those out.
