The First Taste is Free - Tales of a Lesbian Vampire (The Pixie Chix Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 950 ratings

EPISODE ONE - Where Felicia learns that Pixies may be able to cure her vampirism, if she’s willing to pay the price. If you like magical quests and sex in the snowy dark of night, then read on…

- - - - - -

Felicia is a vampire. Serious, sexy… and maybe even suicidal. She finds her need to feed on the life of others abhorrent, but is the victim of her own desires.

Mint is a Pixie. Whimsical, cute… and, like all Pixies, has a single-minded need for sexual pleasure.

Pixies: they just might be the solution to Felicia’s problem… as long as she doesn’t mind replacing one addiction for another.

- - - - - -

“Pixie Chix — Tales of a Lesbian Vampire” is on ongoing series, slated for a ten episode run. It takes place in the same world as the “Tales of Sex and Magic” series and shares a similar set of ingredients: sex, magic and a hint of silliness.

WARNING: this story contains explicit descriptions of lesbian sex and more than its fair share of naughty language.

Who is Zeph? To start with, here are three things you need to know:

1) She’s silly. How silly? Almost as silly as she is naughty. Almost

2 ) She hates being called a woman. She’s a girl, remember that. If you call her a woman she’ll cast a spell on you, and it won't be one of her fun ones.

3) She likes certain activities way, way too much. Read her stories and you’ll have a pretty good idea what those activities are.

Yes, Zeph’s a girl with a very active imagination, one who’s mind always seems to be in one of two places. Either she’s thinking about sex and where she’d like her head to be, or about worlds of magic and elves and castles in the sky.

Obviously, the meeting of the worlds was inevitable. Like peanut butter and chocolate.

As well, she’s a girl who’s been writing stories for a long time. Sometimes they were tales of wizards and dragons. More often they were about girls, who in the real world would never have come together, and how they, well… come together.

For the most part, Zeph kept these stories to herself. Especially those that she wrote when she was horny.

Then one day she thought to herself, that’s just stupid!

So now she’s writing stories to share… and finding that writing stories for others is a lot of work! Fun work, to be sure, but work nonetheless!

Now shhh… she’s cooking up some mischief!

Not being a huge fantasy reader, I was a bit intimidated by the description as to how fantastical this story would be. Luckily I was NOT greeted with my worst fear - a huge mystical, magical world the author just throws you inside of without explaining how a single thing works. To my even greater joy, I discovered that I didn't have to know a thing about the world or time period or society to understand the tale. I simply just had to read. Even the characters are not totally defined by their magical race. They're more defined by, well, their character.

There's a wonderful insight into the main character Felicia, a vampire who's sexy in an unexpected way. Most authors write vampires who rely solely on their looks to make them appeal to other characters and, most importantly, readers. Sure, Felicia has the looks and the charm, but she's attractive in a surprising way. The depth of her character is endless, and her wit is unmatched. Her personality is strong and bold, and she knows exactly what she wants. Not only is her story being explained to us (and, trust me, it's a captivating story, even when most of her past is unknown), Felicia herself comments on the events as they happen, giving us snippets of her direct thoughts - and more often than not they're sexual. Felicia's lustful personality and motivations make her my favorite character and inherently sexy as the author describes.

The plot is quite interesting. I won't give it away, but I'll just say you won't expect what the cure to Felicia's vampirism is. What the cure is could seem silly if it were written by any other author, but Zephyr Indigo pens it so smoothly you won't bat an eyelash when you find out what it is - and it's worth finding out.

This is a great first story for a series. It doesn't go too in depth of what all adventures will be had, what sets of obstacles will have to be faced, and even what consequences could arise from making a decision. It only gives you a taste of the true main plot - how Felicia can cure her unwanted vampirism - but that's all you need. Read this book and you'll be dying to read the next nine.

(Not to mention, the sex scenes are pretty damn hot.)

I wasn't certain what to expect, so I must confess my expectations were low. Most of these stories are the same fluff just different titles. I was surprised when I found that not to be the case this time. It was a breath of fresh air to find a storyline that hasn't been done to death. I wish the author had gone a little deeper in character development, but all in all, a very good read.

In all honesty I wasn't able to finish it. At first I was appreciative of the scenery and of the main character, but whenever I arrived at the first sex scene I had to put the book down because of the vulgar, cheap way that the sex was described and handled. In my opinion, language and descriptions are the barriers between erotica and pornography...I read erotica, not porn. I am very sorry to say that I am not impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable!

I read this because, as the title says, The First Taste Is Free. I don't usually like magic/fantasy as a subject but I loved this! The characters were charming and had a wit that was not over-done by being too clever. I liked them straight away, and the scene setting was just right, not over descriptive, and I felt like I was there, in the snow with them (I wish!). The erotic content was sexy and, for me, done just right. Well, I liked it so much, that I'm off to buy another taste.

The First Taste is Free has an interesting concept, about a lesbian vampire Felicia who doesn't want to drink blood anymore. She is met by a Pixi named Mint and meets the Pixi goddess Ariel and is presented with a possibility: give up an addiction for blood for one of Pixi sex. It is a short entertaining read with a well made setting.

Positive first: I almost always read MF. Now decided to try FF. And that was what it was about.

Negative: Okay, it was a special price... for chapter one, and then the special price for chapter two, and the special for chapter 3..... You get the drift.

As for a story. Sorry, more than chapter one, I refuse to bore my brains into oblivion. Now that I wrote my bitchy bit, I'm gonna remove it from my Kindle, and draw a vail over the whole thing. Maybe one day I will try FF again, as some of my friends are lesbian, and they are by no means as boring and lustless as I found here.

Really sorry, but I have to be honest.

While the sex scenes are OK, the story is witty and fresh, the characters are engaging, and the writing is excellent. I'll definitely be buying the next in the series on the strength of this free sampler.
